  1. Vote for Brock Nelson for the Islanders rookie of the year. http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=716939&navid=DL|NYI|home
  2. the game is on ESPN News until the pc quin game is over.
  3. Great pictures! Thank you for posting them.
  4. Mine didn't load until several minutes into the game, and then froze multiple times in the last 3-4 minutes of the game.
  5. The ratings were just "terrible." "The overnight for the game, in which the hometown Blackhawks handily defeated the Penguins, 5-1, was up 91% compared to last year’s NHL regular-season average on NBC (1.1) and up 31% vs. NBC’s afternoon NHL Stadium Series game on January 26 between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils (1.6; 1:30-4:30 p.m. ET)." http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2014/03/02/nhl-stadium-series-between-penguins-blackhawks-scores-best-overnight-rating-ever-on-nbc-for-non-winter-classic-regular-season-game/
  6. Duluth uses American ONE Sports; you can purchase the video feed from them.
  7. The women take down Wisconsin 4-1! Huge win for the Sioux!
  8. Of course all sexual assaults can't be stopped; however, that doesn't mean a college and its programs aren't obligated to deal with them in the most effective manner and to do what they can to prevent them. Title IX requires it. If students file complaints with the federal government schools are sued and held financially responsible. So the question that always needs to be asked when sexual assaults occurre is how were they handled and what did the school do to prevent them from occurring. You might not like it, but that is the legal framework a school has to operate within. As far as I can tell, Pflugrad didn't do a particularly good job handling the issue, and I haven't seen anything from him that suggests that he would do anything different if a similar event occurred. Absent that a college would be putting itself at risk if they hired him.
  9. Seriously? This is the best response you can come up with?
  10. Of course it isn't up to the coach to implement sexual assault policies for the campus. But when there were huge problems on his team, he didn't do much of anything about it. In the same way Hakstal made all of his team members attend alcohol education classes after last year's incident, it seems reasonable to expect a coach to do something similar. There were clearly far larger problems at Montana from the police to top level of admins. That, however, doesn't change the fact that there were problems on the football team and Pflugrad didn't seem overly concerned by it. I've read a lot of articles trying to find something where Pflugrad acknowledges a problem and/or says what he did about it. I haven't found anything that puts him in a positive light. His responses seem overly defensive. I stand by my original claim, with the information that is available, an AD would be crazy to take a chance with him.
  11. I went and read the actual job description. One of the minimum requirements is strict adherence to NCAA rules and regulations. His sanctions from the NCAA could have booted him off the list. Usually if a candidate doesn't meet the minimum qualifications they are automatically excluded from the search. This is pretty much true everywhere. It's why when a school knows who they want to hire, they write the job description knowing it allows them to hire that person without a problem from HR.
  12. My question to you is what did Pflugrad do to deal with a culture of sexual assault on the Montana team. You're right they weren't his recruits, but it happened on his watch. Did he institute sexual assault training and prevention programs? Did he do anything to try and stop it from happening again? I've been unable to find anything to suggests that he did. The inadequacies of the U Montana police department are a separate but related issued. Ultimately, we have no way of knowing if the players should have been arrested or not because the police didn't do their job. But if you heard allegations of date rape drugs and gang rapes, what would you do? I know I'd see a massive red flag and would be engaging in some serious educational efforts to minimize it happening. If you have found information that suggests that Pflugrad did anything substantial to deal with the culture of the team, I would love to read it. I've followed this case pretty closely since it started, and I haven't seen anything that suggests that Pflugrad took the problem seriously. Your quotation where he says he handled things well tells us nothing. What specifically did he do to handle it well? Absent that information it is impossible to tell.
  13. There is more than one issue that is being discussed here. One is the overall process; the second is whether or not Pflugrad should be considered for the position. One can question the overall process and agree that Pflugrad should not be considered.
  14. Nice strawman. No the hiring of Pflugrad wouldn't turn players into rapists; however, it does suggest a failure of leadership and a coach who has little concern for the off field behavior of his students. Montana football had a sexual assault problem. Pflugrad failed to address it in a meaningful way. I've seen nothing from Pflugrad that suggests that he learned anything from the mess or taken any sort of responsibility for his handling of it. Somethings are way more important than winning a football game.
  15. Former Griz running back Beau Donaldson sentenced to 10 years for rape. http://missoulian.com/news/local/former-griz-beau-donaldson-sentenced-to-prison-for-rape/article_1c1b49fa-5c2b-11e2-998c-001a4bcf887a.html 4 Montana football players accused of a gang rape potentially having drugged the woman; Pflugrad knows and doesn't tell his supervisors. http://missoulian.com/news/local/um-dean-implicated-football-players-in-gang-rape-emails-reveal/article_166bb96a-a16c-11e1-8d36-001a4bcf887a.html "But in January, UM President Royce Engstrom wrote in a draft of planned public remarks that then-Grizzlies football coach Robin Pflugrad had disciplined some football players accused of raping a woman, but did not report the incident to his supervisors." Quarterback Jordan Johnson acquitted of rape. So during Plugrad's tenure at Montana one football player was convicted of rape; one was acquitted and four were accused but not charged. However, when you take into consideration that the DOJ investigation found that the U of Montana police dealt with investigations of sexual assault so poorly that they rose to the level of a civil rights violation the fact that one player was acquitted and four weren't charged is pretty meaningless. The handling of the allegations were not conducted in a manner in which convictions could reasonably happen. http://www.justice.gov/crt/about/spl/documents/missoulafind_5-9-13.pdf But you know, Pflugrad is exactly who we should be bringing in as a coach at UND. An AD would have to be crazy to take that chance.
  16. Texas hasn't been very good since 2009. A more apt comparison would be to Gino in the 90s.
  17. Irle is the Deputy Director of Athletics; Her day-to-day duties include departmental oversight of the compliance office, athletics academic services, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, Title IX policy and compliance, the summer school athletics aid and degree completion aid programs, and direct supervision of various sports assigned by the athletics director. Jeno is the Faculty Athletic Representative to the NCAA. Hajdu oversees the athletics study center and is responsible for ensuring the academic success, eligibility and progress toward graduation of more than 400 student-athletes. There is a lot more to having a successful athletic program than just a head coach, and that coach has to be able to work within the broader university structure.
  18. Toews with a natural hat trick! Hawks were down 4-2. Then Toews went on a scoring spree.
  19. A quick google search supplies the answer to why they care about cable but not satellite. "According to Ipsos survey, 51% of US households have cable TV, 26% receive their television via satellite, 1% have both, and 22% have neither."
