  1. I live pretty close to the 19th Ave N Stop and Go....does that count?
  2. I disagree. Many are doing it because it is fun to watch people you don't like suffer. I personally will be voting "No" because A. my way of sticking it to UND, B. my UND fan friends and family have all made it perfectly clear they'd rather be the Sioux than be something else, even after I have informed them of the possible implications of staying the Sioux. No Big Sky, no playoffs, etc. Typical UND fans are going to vote to save the name. So if the friends and family of mine still want me to vote for the name, I will do so. This has nothing to do with fearing UND's competition. Though watching a rival school fall on it's face would not be too bad either. NDSU fans win no matter what, either UND keeps their name and watches an athletic program fall apart, or UND loses a name and facebook explodes.
  3. I'm just going to go ahead and say this philly pitt series has been really sad yet enterteaining. Very easy to see pittsburgh is showing their frustration at how the first couple games went. Strange to see my Flyers being the more level-headed and composed team in this Game 3. Oh, and Crosby embarassed himself with his conduct in the first period fight(s) he started. He should lose sponsorship dollars from that.
  4. That gives you a reason to crack open a beer when you wake up. Nursing a hangover in a short time simply requires more alcohol.
  5. I still hate the Bison for changing their name from the Farmers way back when.....OUR HERITAGE IS RUINED I TELL YA!
  6. They wouldn't deny NDSU, Mary, or Minot State the right to host a playoff game because of another school's troubles. Maybe not allow the state to host NCAA tournements but its not like we do anyway. They tell NDSU that we can't host the Summit track tournement? I think we'll survive. They tell NDSU we can't host the Summit Basketball Tourney? Not like we are going to get it anyway.
  7. I believe I read somewhere that if a SoCar or Mississippi school makes the playoffs, they can host. The NCAA just doesn't allow the state itself to host tournements such as....a Baseball regional, or March Madness games. A football game would be fair game. EDIT: Just checked, Wofford is in South Carolina and has hosted playoff games. Go ahead, punish the state. Just means that we can't have NCAA tournements in North Dakota. Whoop-di-doo.
  8. Oh I'll remember there my words. I won't whine. And if I do, feel free to save this post of mine. That'll get me to knock it off. I don't THINK they'd do anything to insane but you never know right? Might have to eat my words at some point. All I know is I contacted Grant Shaft during the fall via email to and brought up some things I saw in the University System Budget that I was confused about. He asked for times when he could contact me. I told him anytime would work. He never contacted me. That was in September. I have given up on them.
  9. I don't think that would be admitting that our teams cannot compete with UND when the playing field is level and equal. I think it is admitting that we don't really care for UND and seeing UND's athletic programs fall down hard would be comical, wonderful, and benefit NDSU's all at the same time. If you had an opportunity to vote on something that would hurt NDSU's athletic program in a variety of ways, you'd probably do it. And also take into consideration that NDSU fans are the reason that you have this opportunity to take them down hard, it'd make it even more funny and sweet for you. Rather than being mad that some NDSU people are going to vote yes, and ride on them for doing so, you should be going after the "Sioux or Death" crowd who is the reason I, along with the rest of the state of North Dakota will have an opportunity to vote. It would be one thing if NDSU fans started the petition, or made a savethefightingsioux.com so we could stomp out a competitor in the region, but that is simply not the case. Look at the ridiculous fans you have who started the nonsense of fighting to get this on the ballet before you blame the people who get an opportunity to vote on it. NDSU has been taking it on the chin with funding for some time. I think we'll survive...
  10. Is it not true Engelstad at very least made some threats to the administration regarding a future changing of the nickname? There is a webpage on UND's site that has a timeline of the nickname controversy. It has been quite some time that people have known the nickname would be an issue at some point. I put 95% of the blame of all of us on UND's fans, the school, and Mr. Engelstad. I put 5% on Carlson. Without Carlson, this little fight would probably still be going, probably just someone else leading the charge.
  11. I'm kinda with Dan on this one. If UND hockeyfans/grads/whathaveyou had taken it on the chin and quit whining, UND wouldn't have been in this position because Al would not have seen an opportunity to grab some power. All of this trouble over some dumb cartoon and "honored, strong, sacred" nickname. Real sad deal. Too late. UND had its chances to get rid of this mess years ago. Because of this, I am going against my natural instinct to vote against government control, but UND gave me no reason to believe that they could control themselves. For years, they let Ralph Engelstad call the shots. What is to say that another exceptionally wealthy booster won't just hold the school hostage again? Vote yes to save the "Fighting Sioux," because within 5-10 years, it won't be an issue because no one will care about a shell of a division 1 program anymore.
  12. I was outside the stadium waiting for a friend to come pick me up and there was a surprising number of UND fans there from what I could tell. It was a great day for baseball, so with a name in town that people knew, quite a few made the trip to Newman. I'd be bummed to get swept but at least it looks like the games were all pretty competitive.
  13. Your D is not a hell of a defense...your front seven appears to be pretty dang good though. Remember the back four. UND got torched through the sky. Fix that and then you can brag up the D. Might be a question for a different thread but I'll ask it anyways...what is UND's current outlook in the secondary? Do you guys have reasons to be optomistic or pessimistic or whats the scoop there? Thats the guy from the Lennon Administration right? Brings up bad memories for me as a Bison fan.
  14. I am a little surprised NDSU's ace was able to have a complete game shutout. I am EXTREMELY surprised UND's pitcher kept NDSU at bay. Sucks for him that it was an unearned run. Can't be a good feeling to have had your best game of the year and the team loses.
  15. Notre Dame's time is coming.
  16. If UND goes to some Air-Raid crap I'd imagine it is a mistake. Almost everyone in the BIg Sky chucks it around. Someone needs to be the Ground-N-Pound. Plus you can pound the rock in the rain, in the wind, in the snow, in a dome. Air-Raid crap is annoying and soft. Run the ball.
  17. I had a bad feeling about Oregon. I haven't read into the extent of their crap, but teams don't randomly become awesome like they did without selling a bit of their soul. Just a matter of time til we find out Saban and the Crimson Tide have been cheating as well. FBS football is very corrupted now, which is just unfortunate considering football's place in the american sports world.
  18. ....This is sad that no one noticed he screwed up. Ohio State did not play for the National Championship. Auburn and Oregon did. It will be interesting to see what happens to Auburn. The NCAA did their investigation and then closed it. Sounded like Cam and Auburn were safe. His Dad though, was trying to sell his son basically. Ohio State played Arkansas and got to keep all their suspended players for that one last game. FBS is lame. Very money driven.
  19. Really opens up the Big Sky this year. Montana St and EWU are probably ecstatic that they are now probably definitely 1 and 2. If UND capitalizes they could sneak into that 3 spot if any/many key Montana players leave or are dismissed. Playoffs for UND now are much more realistic. Should be extremely interested to see the Sky this year.
  20. players do it for the fans. I don't imagine the players at either school particularly care about the other unless they have friends who play on the other team. The only reason the coaches would care is if the other school is having a tough time, then recruiting will come easier. Fans on both sides care plenty. I don't know many people at NDSU who actually care about the wrestling team. We are aware that they are generally pretty solid, and won some championships back in the D-2 days, but other than that, they are an afterthought. Yep, there are a few D-2 and D-3 schools, and a ton of schools that I have no idea what level they are. All I know is that Minnesota generally is awesome and so are some other other B1G and Big 12 schools.
  21. Um, I've seen someone on here with their signature showing UND's record in sports against the other Dakota schools. So isn't that one of your people comparing themselves to the the other schools, none of whom are in a conference with you? NDSU's existance depends on our ability to win championships in football and the other sports. UND is no flagship anymore. A flagship would imply it is significantly larger than the other schools. NDSU and UND are now roughly the same size. And even if UND was this "flagship" you speak of, why would I care? NDSU won 8 football championships in the College Division and Division II. Added another one in FCS this season. So while NDSU, "Moo U", "The AC", was being the little brother winning 9 championships, UND, "Flagship", Big Brother, won 1? I don't recall NDSU fans rushing the court after beating UND in basketball last season. I don't recall Saul Phillips declaring the win "One of the biggest in our history." Most NDSU fans I know don't deny still being relatively interested or in some cases very interested in what goes on up in Grand Forks. So...you have a fan base who cares more about winning a conference tournement than making it to the Frozen Four? (Minnesota is guilty as well, not just UND)
  22. 1200 less...with two teams who claim to be a big deal...playing in the state of hockey and home to one of the teams.... and about 4-5 hours from Grand Forks.
  23. Learn to read. I said "to go to the Frozen Four," not the Frozen Four.
  24. The Valley and the Big Sky are pretty comparable for football. Greeley? NoCol football sounds like a big show in town. Missoula? Great football tradition and great venue. Northern Arizona? Sounds a little far away, doubt many fans will trek out there. Southern Utah? Anything outside of BYU, Utah, and Utah State is irrelevant in Utah. Weber State? Also in Utah right? Bozeman? Great venue and a solid program. I listed the top teams and some of the other ones right there. Thats great if they are "the show" in town. https://admin.xosn.com/pdf8/673802.pdf?SPSID=43210&SPID=3829&KEY=ESZIGVSSFOSGQWY.20100223160142&DB_ACCOUNT_TYPE=AGENT&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=9700 This is the stats for 2009. The year NDSU went 3-8. The Big Sky, with all their BIGTIME teams, averaged fewer fans per game despite having Montana leading the nation in attendence and even in having more home games, had fewer total fans come through the gates. Sounds like the Valley sure blows compared to the Sky. Near future? UND known for travelling well? Hmm...The "X" had I believe 11-12,000 people there this weekend for Minnesota Vs. UND. The X holds a lot more than 11 or 12,000. If you people aren't even willing to drive to Minneapolis for a hockey game...to go to the FROZEN FOUR...against your RIVAL..why should anyone think any of you would go to Texas for a championship game? UND doesn't travel well for football and you know in your heart that if UND made it to Frisco, that they would be more in line with the Delaware/EWU game of 2011. Accept it and move on.
  25. Brookings, now Vermillion and Omaha(if the team is doing well), Tulsa is out of the equation now. If, and only if, the Bison are having a good season, I can drive to games. I have only taken the time to go to Brookings, but with USD and Omaha joining up, if the team is good, I'll make an effort to go watch. I should have phrased it differently, and pointed out that my getting in the car to watch games, I also was including the MVFC football games as well. I tend to look at the Summit/MVFC as the same thing even though they are seperate.
