  1. I nominate best response post I've seen in a long time on SS. jodcon has it right. Loss of attendence. Loss of fans due to poor atmosphere at games due to poor product on the field due to blackballing by other schools due to the nickname. Loss of students to the school. Like it or not, guys especially like to go to schools that have good sports. I have heard that as a result of the championship this year, NDSU got a lot of applications they weren't expecting. Could just be a rumor, could be a fact. At the very least, a decent chunk of students want to go to a school where athletics is relevant, and a UND with the nickname would not be relevant in sports. Even hockey over time would at the very least take a step down and be an average-good team rather than an exceptional one. A major reality sanction that a lot of people on here wouldn't like.. NDSU completely dominating all sports and fans in North Dakota. Any young people on here who are starting families now will have to deal with their children's generation being NDSU fans simply because "The AC" is getting all of the best kids, playing in significant games, and have fun games to go watch. Which I know would break a lot of hearts and cause premature aging for lots of you guys on here.
  2. One would imagine that this will become a trend of schools everywhere sooner or later. The Big Sky too is noticing these things. Starting to feel even worse for the UND fans. This is a real blow to the nickname folks though, stuff like this might help some North Dakotans vote yes. So maybe I don't feel so bad for the UND folks. Regardless of if it is a win or a loss, UND's reputation is still getting dragged (or drug?) through the mud.
  3. SDSU could have an official statement and they'd still say O'Keefe is a liar.
  4. won't work, too many people who call in support the nickname.
  5. I will be the attorney representing Fetch, DaveK, and others. "The SDSU Jackrabbits are missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Playing against the FIGHTING SIOUX is a privilege, not a right. We are more important than the NCAA. If people are not willing to accept that as the truth, then we do not want to play them. They, along with the Badgers, Gophers, and Hawkeyes, do not represent any trend that schools will not feel honored and privileged to play against the SIOUX. It just so happens that the four schools that will not play us are in a close proximity. As has been stated, this does not represent a growing trend of teams that will not allow themselves to be involved with the University of North Dakota FIGHTING SIOUX athletic program. Certainly, the Big Sky will not mind that the local schools around us do not have the cajones to set foot of the field with a team of warriors called THE FIGHTING SIOUX! At 10:51 AM, CMSioux said, "So we can assume that SDSU won't be holding any meetings in "Sioux Falls" SD either." In case you were unaware, SDSU probably tends to hold meetings for itself in Brookings. I do not imagine Mayville St. or Valley City St. holding many meetings in Fargo, so I would assume it translates across state lines. BUT NO FEAR! THE FIGHTING SIOUX TRADITION AND PRIDE WILL WIN OUT! The Gophers, Badgers, Hawkeyes, and Jackrabbits will slip into irrelevancy, mediocrity, and most certainly bad karma from refusing to play against the FIGHTING SIOUX!! FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!" Statement over. DaveK, Chewey, and the other defendents will take your questions now.
  6. Feel free to cancel this thread. I see someone already started one in the Sioux Name section.
  7. A Lehigh fan on anygivensaturday.com says they found this on twitter.
  8. I do think some of these new ones look a little too tight. But thats how it is now. I really can care less, as long as they are still playing football.
  9. Once again, I'd wait to crown them for anything until you see them controlling teams like Montana, Montana St., EWU, etc. While it is certainly possible, I'd imagine a roadbump or two could pop up as is to be expected for a team moving up and moving into a new conference.
  10. I'm just going to rip it out. I don't deserve to have a relatively pain-free procedure after that one eh?
  11. But the only way UND will play 15 games is if....OH!!! I see what you did there. Funny hehe.
  12. Once again, I will point out you haven't seen him play in a real situation yet other than mop-up duty, but thats fine. We are all entitled to our own opinion. That is what message boards are for. Also, earlier you mentioned him throwing for 3,000 yards this season. You are thinking 3,000 in an 11 game season? That seems unrealistic considering UND is a run-first team. Averaging 272 yards passing/game seems like quite a bit when you consider things.
  13. I have nicer hair than mel kiper. Hmm....And let me guess, you knew Ryan Leaf was going to suck. You knew Jimmy Clausen wasn't the next Joe Montana at Notre Dame. Want to pick my lottery numbers too? This transfer might end up being a good one, but it might be a good idea to ease up on the expectations before you see him play.
  14. Looked up his stats. His "best game" was a 7-13 for 86 yards and a pick. In a 13-0 defeat against NC St. He very well could end up being good, but watching some film of him playing when the other team isn't prepared for him doesn't say much to me. He was a backup at North Carolina. He isn't a Rhett Bomar from Oklahoma to Sam Houston St. or anything like that. If you want to be super excited about him thats fine, but claiming that he is going to be UND's Savior at QB just seems a bit over the top when he hasn't played a down of significant football for you, or for anyone in a long time. I'm a bigtime Notre Dame fan. We pull in awesome recruits every year. Some of them end up great, some of them end up alright, and some of them end up bad. Just because someone was recruited to play for UNC, doesn't mean anything about them other than they were a good high school player.
  15. We will see. Like I said, some guys got it in practice. Some have it in games. Some have it in both. I wouldn't go claiming he has both when you haven't ever watched him play.
  16. I'm predicting you are wrong on many levels. Montana and Montana St. are to be respected and used as a benchmark when looking at what your team is accomplishing. What makes you think that the quarterback is capable? A few spring practices? A spring game? At NDSU, we learned our lesson about trusting that back in the Mertens time. Until Bradley, or Hansen or whoever is playing QB plays consistently well against the Big Sky teams, it would be best not to assume anything. I don't expect UND's offense to be a nightmare but it should do fine. I'll have UND get 4th or 5th in the Sky. Montana, Montana St., EWU, and Poly I think will all be in front of them. It should also be noted that UND's secondary couldn't stop a nosebleed last season. In the Big Sky, that could be a problem.
  17. I notice it always seems to be you and a very select few others who claim NDSU fans don't care about UND. I am quite confident that fans of both schools (excluding hockey only fans at UND) care quite a bit. Though that is a discussion for another thread, I just find it very funny you stick to the same argument when it is clear that both fanbases care quite a bit about what is going on with the other school. regardless, I went to the movie today(in Grand Forks even! I steal your women as a hobby) and the movie was not bad. A bit long, the North Dakota reference was a bit funny considering why he mentioned it. I'd recommend anyone with a wife who wants to see the movie to probably just suck it up and go. Jason Segal (I Love You Man, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, How I Met Your Mother) is a funny guy.
  18. I got a chuckle out of the clip. I'd imagine he is referring to the state. However....I often times hear announcers refer to UND as North Dakota (not unlike Texas is really UT-A or Alabama is UA-T). Soo..just maybe he is referring to UND
  19. Not to be a jerk, but i clicked this thread on accident the other day and it took me to page one. Without realizing that I was reading something 6 years old I almost spit out my coffee when a guarantee was made that UND's IPF would be done before NDSU raised the money for the BSA. Seems like at this point they are on about the same level. Wouldn't be shocked one way or the other on which one gets done first.
  20. Until the pen is put to paper, I believe many coaches do it.
  21. I never see them practicing anywhere but outside. So 40 practices a year is equivalent to practicing inside 8 weeks of the season. They do no such thing. I don't see a need for an indoor building to practice. Nothing wrong with practicing outside.
  22. Minnesota also has the money (funny, considering the state) to be more selective than the schools around here do. It could also be that TCF was willing to give either more money, or fewer terms to meet to get the money. Say TCF gave them X amount of dollars and favorable terms. Say Sanford gave them 1.25-1.50 X dollars compared to TCF but less favorable terms....take that TCF money and don't look back in my opinion.
  23. I, as a Bison fan, like the idea. A.) For me, its closer to Fargo!. But most importantly, B.) They are making an effort to capture the Sioux Falls market. If it works for them, great. If it doesn't, they are no worse off than they were before.
