  1. Just got a speaking engagement at Pennsylvannia State University, December 5.  Isn't that where Doreen Yellowbird just was, like on Novemeber 2?   What an irony.  Well, she is Arikara, and Arikara are not known for being great fans of the Sioux, either, like the Chippewa (Ojibwe), and most of the other faculty there at UND.  I don't think there is a Sioux on the faculty, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes Bad Eagle you are correct. I believe also there aren't many if any Faculty members of Nakota/Lakota/Dakota (Sioux) decent at UND. I wounder why that is?

I also think many of the opponets of the Fighting Sioux Symbol are of Chippewa decent. I find that Ironic.

Bad Eagle you work is very enlightening and educational. I look forward to reading more of your writings in the future.

  2. BRIDGES and that ilk merely seem to be preaching to the choir. They bring in people of like mind and don't encourage a rational dialogue regarding the name, or anything else. I wonder when they're going to bring in somebody to talk about other issues in NA culture, e.g., crime, alcoholism, gangs, health issues, poverty, etc.

Scott, They don't want to address the real problems, they are concerned about the issues that get the most attention. They are in it for themselves. Most of this has to do with these White hand wringing Liberal Professors trying to tell others how they are supposed to think. I am sorry I don't need some liberal telling me how to think. They don't want to address the real issue they just want to blow a bunch of hot air around and make a name for themselves.

Also, you want to throw Johnny Hoff or Dana Williams off ask them when was the last time they went to one of North Dakotas 4 Indian Rerservation and helped out/volunteered. Never they never have once. They haven't done a thing for Natives, these are the same people they claim they are fighting for.

Even more obsurd, this past week, Doren LittleBird finally acknowledged that there is a gang problem on the states reservations. I was like DUH, she just realized this.

In my past job I went to Fort Totten and some of the other reservations quite often to recruit students for an education institution. Their main concerns wasn't when UND was going to change the name. But how they could get away from some of the problems that plague their daily lives. The P.C. crowd is out of touch.

Providence right wing Lee Goren named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Providence Bruins right wing Lee Goren has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 3, 2002. Goren tallied four goals and six assists for 10 points and a plus-7 rating in four games, helping the Bruins to a 3-0-0-1 record and first place in both the North Division and the Eastern Conference.

On Wednesday in Binghamton, Goren scored two goals in a span of 24 seconds and added two assists to spark the Bruins' come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Senators. He added two more goals and another assist in Friday's 7-3 win over St. John's, and after being held off the scoresheet in Springfield on Saturday, Goren finished the week with three assists in a 7-3 win over the Falcons on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievement, Goren will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to Pawtucket Youth Hockey in Goren's name.

A native of Winnipeg, the 24-year-old Goren was a third-round draft choice of the Boston Bruins in 1997. After recording just one assist in his first six games this season, Goren has notched six goals and eight assists in his last six outings, and is currently tied for fourth in the AHL with 15 points on the year. A product of the University of North Dakota, Goren led the Fighting Sioux to the 2000 NCAA championship, and was MVP of the Frozen Four tournament, which was held in Providence.

  4. :D Sounds like Quinn made the right decision by going back to Juniors. I hope he keeps up the good work. The things I noticed about Quinn his first time around with UND was that he is a really awesome skater and has decent moves. Maybe Quinn was just to young to be playing in the WCHA his first year. I am also sure it doesn't hurt playing with Brandon and Zach.
  5. My father was telling me that there are hundreds of Lundbohms that have played for Roseau High School, sounds like there is one on the team every years. I suppose it is just like the Hasbargans and Marvins in Northern Minnesota too...

  6. As of November 4:

    Scheider    2-7-9 in 6 games

    Fuher     2-3-5 in 6 games

In North Dakota, we have defensemen that can score, too.  :p

I think Andy Scheider is going to have a break out year. You heard it here first folks. I also like the fact that he is not afraid to go into the corners if he has to. Also, I like the fact that UND defense plays defense, and thinks offense second. Nice change from the two senior defense corp members of last year.

  7. And if you were listening to Hennessey on the radio the first guy to start swearing at Tim, not the second guy who wanted to take him outside, but the first one, just happens to be the Athletic Director at Yale. Hard to believe an Ivy League Athletic Director would do something like that.

I heard that on the Radio too, Tim was trying to announce the game and was sparing with the people in the stand to boot. I guess I expect more from an ivy league school representative. Yesh, time for the Ivy administrators to grow up eh?

I like to see the men sticking up for each other. It show character.

  8. This is awesome.

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

    Brandon Bochenski

    So., F, North Dakota

Forward Brandon Bochenski, who was an offensive catalyst for the University of North Dakota in a pair of road victories over ECAC members Princeton and Yale last weekend, has been named Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 4 by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

A 6-2, 195-pound sophomore from Blaine, Minn., Bochenski scored four goals last Friday (Nov. 1) night at Princeton

  9. Don't foget the defensive scoring!

    As of, Oct. 27th:

    Ballard- 10 pts.

    P. Martin- 6 pts.

In Minnesota, we have defensmen that can score too. :p

Personally I like UND defenseman, they are concerned more with checking and playing defense, scoring is a secondary concern. I like UND's defense just fine. However, I noticed a few of the boys are getting a few points. I also like the fact that they are limiting the opposition to very few shots on goal. I think that is a plus... I think UND hasn't faced more than 25 shots in any of the 6 games that they have played... That is huge...

  10. Question, with regard to the four players kicked out of the game, were the penalties in fact changed to misconducts after the game as one website boxscore indicated? If so, then it is my understanding that all four players would be eligible to play this Friday.

That was the information that I got from reading the box scores too. I suppose we will be updated this week. I hope someone can keep us posted...

  11. Bad Eagle,

I read as many of your articles posted on Front page magazine that I can and they are very inspiring to me. I hope we can see more articles written by you. One thing I have noticed is those in the pro-name change crowd have no rebuttal for your work. Its ussualy followed by a yeah but. I think it speaks volumns of your writings.

Goon one of your biggest fans.

  12. Hey Goon,

Actually, I am one of those bleeding heart liberal Democrats who quite frankly believes this country could use gun control, a national health care plan and a big cut in the defense budget and a reasonable welfare system. But, that's just me.

I could probably sit down over a few good beers with you and reasonably sound out my position as well as listen to your cold conservative views. After a few beers, I would possibly think "jeez, you have a point, but I would rather stick to my opinion". You know what, that's why we have free "Democratic" elections in this great country of ours.

What I don't understand is just what the hell these idiots are doing even bothering wasting their time and effort over thie name change issue. Didn't they see the Sports Illustrated poll? Don't they understand that there is barely even a trickle of support, much less a great uprising of support in their favor?

It is obvious that their "leadership" doesn't get it.

Why don't they focus their energy on actually trying to help out the tribes in North and South Dakota? Work on actual problems they have with health care, education, housing...etc.

Obviously, these so called "leaders" are more interested in getting their names in the paper that actually attempting to get real issues resolved.

If they had any political sense, they would use the name change issue as political leverage to create more scholarships and native american studies programs at UND and other institutions. (Which, no doubt they have anyway....)

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that quite a few of us "bleeding heart, knee jerk, radical Democrats" want to see the Sioux name stay at UND.

Hey thats fine, I don't have a problem with that. Besides, we are in agreement on fighting sioux name...

  13. There's some fans of another team out there who might find this interesting.  Because, of course, Blais mistreats his players and Blais doesn't emphasize academics, only winning. To add to this I was watching a tape of an old game with MN recently and Jeff Panzer was interviewed between periods.  He was asked what it was like to play for Blais and he said something very close to "Oh, it's very easy to play for Coach.  You always know what he expects from you and what he wants you to do.  He knows what it takes to win and is willing to put in the work to win".

That is what I like about Blais, is that he expects his players to work hard any thing less an they sit. Interesting concept to some in this day and age. I have heard some of the players say that Blais is a players coach.

I remember after the 2001 NCAA loss to the dreaded Eagles, Blaiser walked up the bench after the loss and consoled his players and told them basically that they did a good job and to keep their chins up. I believe that states volumns about Blaisers character...

I alway love them rubes that say Blais has suspect methods like any of them know any better and talk about how the players leave early because of him (think back to some of them Fournier, Yureko, Bufuglien sp etc).

Whatever, I say hey, consider some of the alternatives Dahl he is a beaut, he couldn't win a tourney game if the other team forfeited. I think we are blessed At UND to have a coach like him... I also have a hunch about the bunch on the ice. I just hope I am home from traveling to witness what I think might happen this season...

  14. [, JBB: Exactly how much time do you spend on the UND campus? How do you come by your knowledge of the "racial and cultural issues that embroil the entire campus culture?"

I dare say that I'm far closer to the situation than you could ever hope to be. And yet, to me, your words are completely disconnected from the reality. Why is that?

Come on Pat, you can't expect JBB to use facts or even knowledge do you? Look at half of the $#it that he and some of the other retards have written.

In JBBB mine JBB only needs to be the one that yells the loudest to win. Also, add a few racial allegations in there and he is set. Listen to his words, they are the same as Mean's, Hoff's, or Pucker's words they all say the same thing, but no one is listening anymore. They sound like the Democratic party tired and out of new material Same old tired B.S. over and over again...If you through enough garbage out there something may stick over time...

Just go over to http://www.vastlane.org there aren't too many people over there using facts they just spew hateful rethoric and call anyone that disagrees with them a hate monger or an idiot, etc...

  15. Only 8500 at the game? Was there a Threshing Bee going on in West Fargo that day?

Seriously, there are idiot students at every school. This is certainly not an idictment of NDSJC as a whole. That institution has countless other reasons for being an embarrassment to higher education.

    JBB = Pucker, perhaps?

    taz

No Taz Pucker is smarter, but not by much, its the same tired lines. Same B.S. and they same losing arugment...

    Genoway to make Sioux debut

After a wait of more than a year, Colby Genoway may make his debut in a UND hockey uniform in tonight's exhibition game against the University of Manitoba at Engelstad Arena.

Genoway, from Morden, Man., had to sit out all last season and the first two games this season at UND under an NCAA ruling for having played in a Tier I game in Canada. He's a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who is a sophomore in eligibility.

Tonight's game begins at 7. UND officially opens its home season this weekend in a nonconference series Friday and Saturday against Niagara University.

  17. Hey where can I listen to the game, I am in the big easy tonight and will be here this weekend too. What is the webpage, any ideas. There should be a link for tonights game right? Or not... Weekend games, what is the best site...

Also, Dagies take care of them ducks for me. I am giving them a reprieve this season. No time to hunt...

  18. I think Jan Brady is a little low even with the loss to Ferris. I would put them just ahead of the Sioux for now.

Sorry Guys I am not convinced that JBSU or SCCC is that good. Sorry I am not saying anything controversial, SCSU lost a lot of good people and they don't have a great goal tender, I would take any of our goalies over Jake Moreland. I think SCCC is going to slump this year. Just a thought/theory...

  19. I hope it works out to be a great trip Sockeye! 3 wins for the guys team would be great.

I'm heading to ND this week myself and am quite excited about it. If I can't be coming for a Sioux hockey game then I better be hunting and that is exactly that. I hope to be watching the games in a bar somewhere.

    GO SIOUX!

Dagies, please shoot some ducks for me this weekend, I will be in the Big Easy working and I didn't do well last weekend at all. We shot a lot of holes in the sky though...

    Damn Steel shot...

  20. In similar fashion, Sedevie gave up 3 shoot-out goals and Ziegelman 0 in an OT loss to Lincoln.  In further bad news for Sioux goalies Lamaroux was pulled in the 1st period of that game after giving up 3 goals on 9 shots.

    Darn.

    They will bounce back.

Ah, you can't win them all...

What year is Phil coming to UND. I heard this kid is an incredable goalie.

  21. Mankato coach says NDSU fans unruly

    Herald Staff Report

FARGO - First-year Minnesota State, Mankato head coach Clarence Holley accused some fans at Saturday's North Dakota State-Mankato football game of yelling racial slurs at his players and coaches.

Holley said fans in sections behind the Mavericks bench at the Fargodome directed the comments at his black players and a black coach on the sideline.
