It was the championship game in the Target Center (the last Final Five there before the X opened). The final was 5-3 (it was 2-2 after two periods). The Badgers would go on to lose badly to Boston College at the West Regional in Minneapolis the following week, while we would beat Niagara (who upset New Hampshire the night before) 4-1 to advance to Providence.

Well, when you have just been fired from SIU and you are unsure of your next step, coming back home to Grand Forks to work within Bubba's program may make sense. I am thinking it wouldn't take him long to find another HC job.

It would make sense for Lennon to come back to Grand Forks. He went to school here, built his resume here and probably would like to live here again. But I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I think the NCHC gives us plenty of "prep for tourney time". It's easily the toughest conference in the NCAA right now. And, as was noted above, our program has always extended a "welcome to the club" greeting to young programs by playing them. I remember playing Northern Arizona in the 1980's as well as the other programs mentioned above. I would really like us to schedule Arizona State in a home and home contract (one series in Grand Forks, the other in Arizona) to help that program get off the ground. College hockey needs to keep the programs it has and add them whenever possible.

His big brother? No. But I know him personally and I know his commitment to this school and its programs. Ouch, that really stings (not).

To be fair, the same argument could be made as to why UND Men's Hockey shouldn't be able to fill a 12,000 seat arena with a metro area of 100,000 at most. That is what some people were saying when the current REA was being built; we will never be able to fill it on a regular basis. Well, unless it is over the holiday break or spring break, we do just that. NDSU has big hurdles going FBS (conference home or lack thereof, funding 22 extra scholarships, funding a new stadium), but metro area size is the least of them.

And now they'll claim they are "back on track for the gold". This should be alarming to our neighbors to the north. Getting pushed to a shootout by the Swiss is not a good sign for them.

If Canada and/or Russia light up the scoreboard on him, then I will become concerned it was more about us not burying our chances.

After that, we would lose only one more time (Game 2 of the WCHA first round at home vs. Denver) on our way to our 7th NCAA title. My point was that we didn't look like NCAA title contenders from mid-November until the beginning of February; then we went on that roll all the way to Providence.

At this time in 1999, I didn't think we had a snowball's chance of winning it all that season. I am glad I was wrong about that.

Then they better hope UND never becomes a member of their conferences (MVFC and Summit) because then they would be making the trip up north every other year whether they liked it or not.

Careful, Hajdu has made it abundantly clear on this forum that "No part of his job says he has to tolerate rudeness". This is what I talk about on here all the time, the lack of media coverage, marketing and promotion of our programs (yes, there ARE other programs not named Men's Hockey). We have always lagged behind the Ag School in that area and it needs to stop.

He is referring to the period between 1993 and 2003 when UND beat NDSU on the gridiron 10 out of 13 times (including 1-1 in the playoffs). He could have been more precise, but his original point stands.

Then Bison fans should stop itching to have UND jump to the MVFC/Summit League if there is an opening, because then they would have to travel to Grand Forks at least once every other year whether they like it or not.

So why didn't we just have all other games in Fargo too? MBB, WBB, BB.....you name it, it will happen in Fargo only. Honestly, bowing down to the Ag College just makes us weaker and more impotent. Faison should have told them to take the deal and stick it.

Well, that is appreciated. Too bad more of the NDSU faithful can't do the same.

Just remember that the Bison faithful will never, ever "tip their hat" to UND for anything, no matter what it is. That is why I am not going to lavish accolades on them. Just my opinion.

I seem to remember both Hammer and Schultz doing UND hockey (home and away) during the 1980's on what was then KTHI Channel 11. I think Schultz did it in the early 1980's, then he moved onto WDAY. Then Hammer was doing UND games during the mid to late 1980's (I think he went to Detroit to cover the Hrkac Circus Frozen Four in 1987).

I for one was not happy Faison accepted that offer. Either it's a home and home or we just wait until we meet in the playoffs. That would have been my hard line position on the subject.
