  1. No point in burning red shirts when it probably won't change the trajectory of the season.
  2. And I haven't seen such horrible contributions on this forum in years. Until you came around.......
  3. As for the Twins, I am pleasantly surprised at their success this season. The young players are starting to produce. Now we need to keep them and not let the Yankees or Red Sox poach them.
  4. Hey, that photo was just before the Islanders ran off 4 consecutive Stanley Cups (1980-83). My favorite era of hockey. I grew up watching the Islanders, Oilers and North Stars during that era.
  5. Cripes, when will this insanity stop? We'll be down to the scout team before long.
  6. I would replace Rudolph. It is clear that he has no imagination and is not willing to use the athletes he now has.
  7. When you start with next to nothing, then the answer to this question is no. It will take another 2 or 3 classes to really build the kind of depth within the program that you need to be good week in and week out. The injuries didn't bite as hard last year and that helped us win 9 games. This year, our luck has run out and we are playing guys that are clearly not ready because we don't have anyone else. I am still optimistic about the program as a whole.
  8. I can see both sides of this. On one hand, should we expect people to drive 3-4 hours to watch what we saw today? Probably not. On the other hand, if you live in Grand Forks (as I do), and you don't have any previous commitments, then real fans of the program should be there and support the team.
  9. I was in Brookings the day we beat SDSU and Klosterman got hurt diving into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. Driving home in the autumn rain, I knew losing Klosterman was the final nail in the coffin for that season. Looks like that is the case again this year.
  10. I am looking forward to the day when we don't have to start true freshmen OR redshirt freshmen. The program isn't there yet. But I think it will be.
  11. Comment of the day! Thanks for making me laugh on a day like this!
  12. I thought the linebackers were the backbone of a 3-4 defense?
  13. So you think high school kids should be able to come on campus and immediately start performing at a high level? It doesn't work that way in any sport, especially FB. "Next man up" only works when you have built quality depth throughout the program and that doesn't happen overnight. Bubba and company are in this for the long haul and I believe our best days are ahead of us.
  14. Bubba and his staff have three full recruiting classes under their belts. When you consider they started out with next to nothing and there is always some attrition, that doesn't leave much room for error when it comes to injuries. This is the most banged-up this team has been since 2002...and before that, 1989. I am not calling for regime change....except for maybe Rudolph. We spent most of the first half running up the middle for no gain and then punting. That put the defense in an impossible position. Time for new leadership on offense. Otherwise, stay the course.
  15. This is what I am trying to do: Focus on the long-term and not the short-term. But it's hard to do when people were so excited about this team coming into this season.
  16. Allow me to vent a little bit first: Section 217 is once again a big, fat party zone. The Alerus Center should sell some alcohol down there for the last three home games because there will be a lot of celebrating down there. Teams are running on us at will. An 0-3 team comes into our house and looks like the 1985 Chicago Bears. Now, for a little perspective: We are forced into playing guys that usually don't play unless we are nursing a 40-0 lead. That leads to what we saw today. Bubba has three full recruiting classes under his belt. When you start out with next to nothing, that isn't much. The lack of depth is showing this year, as the injuries pile up. Last year's team won some exciting games, but also avoided the number of injuries this team has been hit with. I still believe in this coaching regime and I still believe that our best days are ahead of us. Looking forward to Homecoming. GO FIGHTING HAWKS!!! BUCK THE FISON!!!
  17. When is this going to change? Every year, we are "starting over" with the offensive line. It is becoming a tired old refrain around here.
  18. I was referring to the Game Day Thread. That got ugly last weekend!
  19. There are genuine concerns after last weekend. But there were some people last Saturday calling for regime change. That is going way too far, IMHO.
  20. You might want to change your user name! Just kidding, that was too easy.
  21. Reverse Karma Psychology. I like it.
  22. OUCH! You must think last week was a sign of things to come? I sure hope you are wrong.
  23. UND rebounds at home with a season-saving win. UND 24 MSU 14
  24. I am in partial agreement with you. But it is important to note that it isn't really the loss to a good team in a tough environment that bothers people; it's the manner in which it occurred. Losing 45-7 is something people thought was in the past.
