  1. If there is even a chance the Big Sky could kick us out because of the issue, it is not worth it. If they kick us out, that's it. No league is going to want a team that was kicked out of their conference. NO ONE!! And Minnesota and Wisconsin willl not play us in any sport. And yes that includes hockey.
  2. Unfortunately we are beyond the point where tribal approval will get us anywhere with the NCAA. Yes, the Spirit Lake Tribe was late to the party granting us approval, but in the eyes of the NCAA, that doesn't matter. They have the signed settlement agreement that says we need both tribes approval. Is it worng...YES. Is the NCAA overeaching their power, Absolutely. But its their club and if we want to be in it, we have to follow by their rules. Its a crappy situation, but that is our only option for college sports.
  3. There was a process that schools with native american names had to follow in order to get approval from the NCAA. Florida State followed that process. UND did not follow the process because they could not get immediate approval from Spirit Lake. So they sues and settled. They agreed to get 2 tribal approvals. they failed to do so. So you can say that it is hypocritical for the NCAA to allow Fla. St to keep their name and UND cannot. But they followed the rules and guildlines set forth by the NCAA. We did not.
  4. Of course its not fair. Spirit Lake Tribe voted to approve the name. But we are under sanctions because we didn't get approval from 2 tribes. Is it fair that Fla. St. only needed approval from 1 tribe, no. Is it fair that we are inecitably going to have to change our name while other schools with native american names get to keep theirs, no. But guess what, life's not fair. We keep the name, we live with the consequences. We retire it, we can move on. 5 years from now we will all see that this was the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to get the chip off your shoulder and accept the inevitable. You will be much better off.
  5. Fetch, we are still waiting to hear how keeping the name and being sanctioned by the NCAA, not hosting playoff games, and schools refusing to play us is a good thing. Yes we know that you want to keep the name, but sometimes you have to look at the consequesnces of your actions. Please explain how keeping the name and suffereing the known consequences is going to be a good thing for UND and its athletic teams? Still waiting.....
  6. Watchmaker49 is a moron. Ok, sue me
  7. We are not making up these horror stories. The sanctions are real. no home playoff games, schools not playing with us....those are not just stories, that is real life!
  8. THE most proposterous statement that I think I have ever heard!!! So you would rather be known as the Fighting Sioux and have UND not be succesful in every sport they play in. Are you even a fan of the teams and atheletes that compete at UND? Or are you just a fan of wearing your Sioux merchandise you buy at the Siouxshop?
  9. There are other consequences that we can debate till the cows come home, but do you really think not being able to host a playoff game is not going to drastically damage UND and its teams? How many FCS.D1-AA Champions have played 3 road games en route to a National Championship. ZERO!!! So you are basically saying that Keeping the name is more important than ever winning a National Championship in football. Maybe you can live with that, but I doubt the players and coaches on the football team would share the same sentiment!!
  10. Let's just say the NO vote wins. what is the next step then? ND lawmakers take the results to the NCAA and what are they going to say? "Ok, that's fine, but you will have to live under the sanctions." Is this really what NO voters want? The NCAA is not going to budge on their policy. We are all still waiting to hear from Dave, Fetch, and the rest how playing under the santions is going to be good for UND and is "the right thing to do."
  11. If this vote is held in 2005 immediately following the NCAA's initial ruling, I think that over 95% of the people on this site would be voting to keep the name. You know this. We all agree that it is wrong that the NCAA has forced it to come to this. All of us voting YES love the Fighting Sioux name and hate to see it go. But what has been said a million times before, the sanctions will destroy UND's atheltic department.
  12. Cavaliers???
  13. Calvary.....I kinda like that. Not a big fan of using "Roughriders." I don't think any college has "Calvary" as a nickname. I like the idea of our new name to be unique, something that stands out from the rest.
  14. Vote No for your own selfish desires, Vote Yes for UND.
  15. That's hostile and abusive towards white people!!
  16. Ok, sorry I meant regular season games. Yeah yeah, you have the right to brag. The Bison are the defending champs and we are 11-11 over the last two years. But remember, NDSU was 3-8 just 2 short years ago. So teams can go from a bottom dweller to a Playoff contender or a National Champion very quickly. NDSU is not the only school in the country that can turn a 3-8 season to a National Championship. We will be there with you in the playoffs sooner than Bison fans want to admit it.
  17. No one ever claimed that a UND game would be bigger than a National semi-final game at home. What was being pointed out is the OOC games that are on your schedule from the past few years and in the future. Playoffs is a completely differenct thing. A National semi0final game is bigger than any home game you would schedule. But you can't tell me that there would be a regular season game that would be more anticipated than UND. Please Johnboy, provide me a list of teams that would be more anticipated, hyped up, talked about, whatever..more than UND. Thanks
  18. Voting No will not "stick it to the NCAA." They will let us keep the name. They never siad that we absolutely had to change it. But if we do keep in now, we will have sanctions against us. So if we vote to keep the NCAA, they aren't going to admit they were wrong, say their sorry, or lift the santions. So by voting No you would not be "sticking it" to the NCAA. You would be "sticking it" to UND and its athletic department.
  19. And that's why we want to schedule NDSU for a home game....because they are a winnable game!!
  20. I guess if I couldn't beat a team I wouldn't want to scheule them either!! Just schedule OOC games against teams you can beat
  21. How many hours before the game starts do NDSU studesnts stand in line for games no agianst the teams you play....a few hours? How many hours did the students stand in line for the last Sioux/Bison game in 2002 at the dome? Pretty sure is was at least 6 hours...or more!!! How many threads are there on Bisonville about the Montana State game next year in the dome? Or any other game you have on your schedule? How many posts have there been on this thread about the game and on B-vill about the game? This game is not even on the schedule yet here we are talking about it. Don't tell me that there is no interest for this game or that other games have greater interest to Bison fans. You can't honestly believe that. How many posts have you made on this thread about this potential game? You obviously have interest about it, so don't tell me other Bison fans don't.
  22. UND does use premium pricing for hockey games. So do other schools. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Denver games are all $15 more per game. 8000 tickets (excluding the students of course) at $15 per per game for those 6 games....do the math, that's $720,000 that UND makes because they charge more for those games. Are people still going to guy those tickets...hell ya!!! And other shcools in the WCHA do it too. Heck, other schools in the NCAA at all levels do it. You think at Alabama charges the same amount for the Vanderbilt game as they do the Auburn game?? Absolutley not!! they realize a high demand game when they see one and realize people would pay a premium price for those games. If NDSU doens't think that people would pay 15-20 dollars more for a UND game, then they are seriously morons. That is a lot of revenue to be lost. If NDSU can't realize the benifit of premium pricing, then that's their problem. But no other game in Fargo will be bigger than a UND NDSU football game. Not Montana, SDSU, UNI...no one. People will pay more for the game.
  23. Relax...I was just making a joke. Sure it was at Dave's expense...but he's a big boy he can take it You're right, no one on this site has EVER pushed their views on anyone else!!
  24. If you need help deciding how to vote, do the opposite of what Dave does. So it would be No on 2, Yes on 3, and Yes on 4. That's exactly how I was going to vote. Glad to know that I don't have the same mindset as Dave!!!
  25. Be smart and vote YES
