The one thing that I think the so called "Siouxforever" fans fail to realize is that we agree with them on the principle of their argument. The overwhelming majority of UND fans wanted to keep the Sioux name back in 2005 when this really got started with the letter from the NCAA. We all agreed that the NCAA was wrong with their assessment that having native american nicknames/mascots/logos created a "hostile" environment. We all agreed that political correctness was getting way out of hand and was apparent here as well. We all were hoping for a better nickname. We all were hoping for a better logo. But like it or not, this is the world we live in. And in this world, Fighting Hawks is the nickname for UND and the logo represents it. Should the NCAA have stayed out of the nickname issue, yeah. Could UND have come up with a better nickname, sure. Could SME come up with a better logo, sure. But all of those battles/debates/fights/etc are over now. There is no reason to keep fighting them, and resisting the change associated with them. We were all "Siouxforever" fans at one point in this process. Slowly more and more people accepted the fact that UND being the Sioux forever was not going to happen. We are all fans cheering for the same teams and athletes. That fight and passion we all had when we were united in our fight with the NCAA should be focused on cheering on UND. The nickname battle may technically be over, but it is still going on in our fanbase. I am hopeful that all UND fans will finally accept the Fighting Hawks name and logo for what it is: a symbol of the great University which we all cheer for.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2017-18 Season

I would be in favor of an outdoor game in Minneapolis....but not at Target Field. As said before, site lines at a baseball stadium are horrible. Was anyone at the Outdoor Wild game at TCF? I think that went over pretty well. I think the ice conditions would be drastically better considering the game would likely be in the dead of winter in Minnesota and not in Nebraska. Have a couple games there to sell more tickets. Get some old WCHA teams back together. Have Mankato vs St Cloud in one game and North Dakota vs Minnesota in the other. Given the proximity of all those teams, attendance should be pretty good. -
http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4109407-und-athletics-new-logo-wont-appear-playing-surfaces-until-next-season Looking back at when the ice was put in last year, it looks like we will find out just after Labor Day what will be on the ice. It will be curious to see when they will change the logo at mid court/field of the Betty and Alerus. With UND moving to Summit for the 2018-2019 season, I could see the Betty waiting until then to redo the court as they will be changing the conference logo to the Summit logo. As far as the Alerus, the current turf has been in place since 2013. Again with conference re alignment, I would see a push to replace the turf in 2020 and put the Valley logo and hopefully a Fighting Hawks logo at midfield. I guess we will wait and see.

I sent an email to fans@theralph.com a few weeks ago. Garth Wiedrich, the Marketing Manager at the Ralph, is the one that apparently responds to that email. I asked him about the logo at center ice this year and whether the Fighting Hawks logo is being used. His response was: "I don’t know what will be put at center ice this year. Your best bet is to contact the UND athletic department" So either he doesn't know, or he just won't say. Given the push by the athletic department to promote the Fighting Hawks logo, if it is up to them I would bet that it is going to be used. In regards to the script at center ice...do you not remember how bad that looked before?!!

Unfortunately UND dropping the program may be the beginning of the end for Womens College Hockey. The expenses far exceed the revenue it produces.

Not that rare it appears. (Especially if your last name is Harris) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2722783-florida-safety-marcell-harris-out-for-season-after-suffering-torn-achilles

Big 10 states that during seasons when a Big Ten team has only four home conference games, it will be allowed to schedule an FCS opponent. This will happen every other year. For the Gophers, it is 2018, 2020, 2022, and every even year after that assuming they keep the every other year format. So looking at both teams schedules, it looks like the first potential game for UND to play Minnesota is 2022. (We already play K-State in 2020 and it is pretty unlikely UND would schedule 2 FBS games that year. Alright Faison, time to make a call!!

We can still have that mentality. The "world" we were fighting was the NCAA, the tribes, etc. Now that same drive and passion can be redirected against our opponents. Too long was our fanbase cheering for a name and logo and fighting an opponent we could never defeat. The world is now our opponents on the field/court/ice/etc and that is what should eb the focus now.

Tough to ignore it when it is basically everywhere. Even the Ralph will no longer be a #Siouxforever safe space as the logo is going on the jersey as well as other prominent locations. (Center ice)

#FlytoFrisco #FightingHawks

If they miraculously decide to move to the suggested alternate location, its just a matter of time before someone else comes in and decides to build there. Just delaying the inevitable.
-
So should I buy the new jersey this year or wait for next year when they may switch to Adidas?!
-
You can complain about it, or accept it and move on. Most are choosing the latter.

Long overdue, but very glad they are taking it seriously. Football is a big time college sport and needs to be treated as such. Including UND. Looking forward to the improvements. #bubbabrand

2017 Weekly/Monthly/Yearly Nominations and Awards

2 RB's on the pre season all conference team. Both from UND, neither named Johanneson. Yeah, I think we will have a pretty good running game this year!! -
Adidas joining in on the fun! http://youtu.be/Vj6meQG6JmY

So Scouting Insiders doesn't think Gubrud or Reyes are top 15 players in the FCS this year? Ummm...OK

But technically not a true "affiliate member" like Cal Poly and UC Davis as they can still win the conference championship and get the autobid. So basically an affiliate member with none of the benefits. We get to play a Big Sky schedule, but that's about it. We will be the Notre Dame of the FCS for 2 years!!
-
So kind of off topic, but I an trying to figure out how it's gonna work for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. We will be playing a Big Sky schedule but technically UND will be an Independent those 2 years. We can't win the conference or get the playoff autobid, I get that. But, how does that work for teams playing us? Are those "conference games"? Since we aren't in the Big Sky and are classified as an independent, do our games against Big Sky teams count as conference games for the schools playing us? For example, when Montana St plays us in 2018 and say they win, does it count as a conference win? Or will they technically only have 7 conference games that year. If that is the case, there will be 8 teams with only 7 conference games for those 2 years and 6 with 8 conference games. Unless I am getting bad information, but the most recent article by undsports.com is why I am wondering these things? http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=211649292 " The Fighting Hawks' 2017 Big Sky campaign will be their final one as the reigning league champions will transition to an Independent status for 2018 and 2019" I guess I was under the impression that UND would be an "Affiliate member" of the Big Sky but could not win a Big Sky Championship like other affiliate members UC Davis and Cal Poly. But if they are technically classified as an Independent, that is going to cause issues in the Big Sky as far as conference records go. Just curios. Hopefully someone can provide some clarification!
