So what can be done? Game count limits seem like a big factor.. also seems like the easiest adjustment although even a 4-5 game increase cant compete with a 60 game AAA schedule.... More games vs low competition doesn't really do much either. More games, tiered classes AA/A ... and more chances to get to MN for tournaments?..

Yep the list posted was just kids who made the choice of opting out of NDHSAA *This Year*.. going back a few years the list doubles for sure... The fomo from that bantam team group was/is insane.... luckily there's always someone around to cash a check. To be fair, we'll have to see how it works out, some good hockey players they produced from those birthyears.... but.....for every Oneil that commits (and it's a long road from commit to seeing D1 ice) there's a couple 13-14 dozen (insert name here)s

Making the tourney needs to be a minimum expectation. Every year. Too many advantages for that not to be the expectation. I like the chances that that minimum will be met this season. Color me optimistic.

The AAA to NA3 or USP... is I think, all too common eventuality, that comes with some very expensive lessons in regret and properly evaluating oneself and the reality of ability vs opportunity. ..... those lessons are paid for monetarily by mommy and daddy usually but moreso by the kids in the experiences they miss.

I don't know... WDA may be the weakest I can remember going back quite a ways. Going to be a complete roll of the dice on most nights outside of Legacy.

I'm waiting till first day of school to see who is actually still in his school. The true depth of NDHS hockey this year will be in the cellar. I got Central and Mandan as teams to watch, both have goalie tandems that "could" push each other to go on a heater.

But ... to your point yes those Legacy kids you mentioned are all very good hockey players... might just be top 3 on my preseason picks... #1 WDA for sure. If only.... before Legacy... this is the year the Century/Legacy team would have been ridiculously stacked.

Butts won't be leaving is my guess. He's a hell of a baseball player too, and "Legacy" is important. I'm of the opinion that even if your a high end kid, unless your leaving for big minutes in the NAHL or USHL.. stay home. Play Team ND in the MN leagues, then play for your school with your friends and family watching. Then play the spring leagues and do the summer Jr. camp trail. Kids parents only have so much time together, tough to give up that precious time chasing a dream with, in reality, a low percentage chance of success.

What would have been the starting goalie for Bismarck Demons also departed for Sioux Falls Power Program. That's 4 kids from Bismarck schools that have now left this year, So far.......... 2 CHS - 1 Legacy - 1 BHS.

They do, watching some of the games he was used very selectively. In the 16U games I've watched he's been good, I'm just saying it's going to be a long road. He struggled a bit more often at the 16U level (at the same time his Sioux Falls D wasn't all that spectacular either). Hes a good goalie, hes going to have official offers on Tuesday for sure, just should be patient.
