I just don't agree. Yes, the number of injuries is concerning and, rightfully so, will affect results; however, UND is completely dysfunctional right now. They are getting blown out. This is not purely on injuries because the backup players are incapable as well. In a year or two, some of these players may improve and even be all-Conference types, but the scheme and plan that is being put in place currently doesn't help the current situation. Why no depth at QB? Why no depth at corner? Why is the defensive line - arguably the strength of the team during the preseason - not anchoring the defense? The defense has been horrible with the DL intact. There are many issues going on; the bottomline is UND is 2-5 during a season they were picked to be BSC champions.

Spot on. There is a discrepancy. In defense of the S&C staff, a lot of the players recruited by Bubba come out of high school way behind the eight ball, so to speak. Bubba and his staff may have to just start by recruiting more physical players.

The depth on this team is horrid. I've been steadfast with this and nothing from yesterday will change my mind. Yes, the injuries have been horrible, but I can't understand how people just don't see what's going on here. You shouldn't go from Big Sky favorite to bottom-feeder when the starters get hurt. You need to have competent back-ups and UND has essentially walk-ons at all the 2nd string spots. They are very underwhelming in terms of their ability. I would understand if the players were making mistakes due to inexperience and causing UND to lose games by a touchdown or two, but these back-ups that Bubba recruited are fish out of water. Dare I say it, many don't appear to have any business playing DI football. The QB position and offensive line appear to be the biggest failures on offense while the defensive backfield (Bubba's positon group, nevertheless) and linebacker spots (Schmidt's forte) are apparently paper thin for the defense. This is all disappointing; to the point where recruiting needs to be put under the microscope for Bubba. No reason you shouldn't have players that can at least keep you competitive; UND is like a DII program playing in the BSC with the injuries and that shouldn't happen.

Montana did the exact same thing two years ago to Bubba and company. No changes against the scheme at all.

Rudolph is both the OC and QB coach. His assessment and recommendation on depth chart and who plays is not particularly challenged by Bubba, but rather just agreed with.

Rudolph's bias towards Heidlebaugh is, well, detrimental to the team to say the least. Of course, a lot about Rudolph is detrimental.

Well, of course, if that was actually the situation. Ironically, what you just did there is speculate rather than assess the current state of reality. Reality is that UND is losing to teams they were predicted to beat; and not just losing, but getting embarrassed.

Because the "best players play" slogan we hear the coaches spew in public is just talk.

Getting blown out multiple times by fellow Big Sky Conference teams destroys the culture. See 2013. This season will have a negative trickle-down effect.

Well, between people on here trying to revoke my professional degree and give me behavioral health advice, I'd say this performance from UND football tops everything off fittingly. UND football has major issues going on right now and it goes beyond the injuries. The culture went from good to broken in less than 12 months.

Heidlebaugh is not good ... at all. Bubba has had 3+ years to find a backup QB and this is what UNDs got? Not good at all.

Thanks for the tip. It doesn't change anything; I'm not looking to personally criticize posters on a UND athletics board. My criticism was directed towards just that: UND athletics, particularly the football program.

You figured you'd take the odds with your criticism; that does work most of the time. I'm not going to respond with a lecture, although it sounds you would like one. There are multiple factors at play here, and the sports medicine staff is certainly only a component of everything. Do you think medical assessments and plans are not variable, and thus, susceptible to error? Well, they are. It's possible such error occurred. It wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last. I won't disclose any personal details, but make sure you are willing to consider all possibilities before you initiate personal criticism. My criticism was directed at the entire unit being UND football, which includes the sports medicine staff. If you want to defend them, so be it, but the results of this season warrant some questioning. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, someone who uses a pedestal on here so frequently would move to personal subjection on a UND athletics forum. That sounds about right. Go UND. This game might actually be uglier than the 2015 matchup in Missoula. So much for improvement. Hey, Studsrud missed that game too, but don't worry, remember that only in 2017 will injuries be an issue.

If someone would like to actually look back at my earlier comments this week, you'll see I gave UND a chance versus Montana only if Studsrud has a phenomenal game. Somehow, though, UND put their only hope in a situation to get banged up and miss the game. Perhaps the injury occurred versus UNC, but either way, the overall design of things needs to be questioned.

You should write a book and title it "How to Build a College Football Program in 20 Years (if your AD gives you that much time)."

Nice work jumping to that conclusion. Think a bit harder; take into account the entire situation.

Why doesn't NDSU sustain this level of injuries? Or why don't they buckle under such impeccable odds? Remember when the #2 overall NFL pick went down? NDSU really lost a lot of games then. Or when they lost their star middle backer, defensive end, and defensive tackle? Lost a lot then too, right? UND's football program has holes and I'm not blind to it.

This isn't just bad luck. The program is a joke this season due to poor planning, conditioning, and medical staff planning. The whole works is to blame partially. This type of injury situation isn't just misfortune. A section of the staff or perhaps even more needs to lose their job. UND deserves better than this choke job. Everyone in the GF area was finally ready to get on the bandwagon and bring UND football to new heights and then we get this !@#$. Unreal.

Everything the Gameday committee has implemented has been an improvement. The tailgates are better, the crowds have been consistently bigger, and the Alerus Center environment is much better for gameday: more UND signage and better field lighting system for presentation. The only thing missing this season is the most important thing: a winning football team.
