POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?

Does it matter when they were won? The fargodome is filled with fans every game who were part of those eras. History breeds tradition. Like the maple leafs or les habitants in the NHL, you can't take it away. It's not like the Sioux hockey team has been racking em up recently either. I know it's nice to just make stuff up to support your side of the story. Lately? The bison made a run to the semis. A pretty impressive one at that. And while it is nice to reflect on, most of us bison fans are still disappointed a little just in the fact that they gave the eventual champ all they could handle on their home field and what possibly could have been....and excited for this year and a chance to knock down that door. That is, after all, kind of what being a fan is all about. I see and hear 7>5 all the time. Then when I see 8>1 it doesn't count? -

I don't care how good Sioux falls is/was. Schools like ndsu and und should mop them. A Lennon coached team would've beat them in warm ups. -

So now we debate past schedules? I'm sure someone will convince the other in this argument. It's pathetic that this great rivalry has been reduced to this. -

Now I gotta worry about this with my favorite college hockey rivalry in a few seasons too. -
Certainly isn't UMNs fault that Penn State started a program that made this thing a go from the start. Anyway, pointing fingers does nothing. I'm missing Bison-Sioux football games, I hope the same doesn't happen to Gophers-Sioux hockey.
-
Where is the Gopher fan anger? Most are angry about going to the BTHC and want the WCHA to stay as is. As far as Moorhead State, I think it is garbage if they say they are gonna start a program. They have a terrible history of athletics.
-
So ... you stopped reading all the crap out there about the new conference.........and then to sum it up you can't buy all the media coverage? I'm not sure how the TV deal would work for the new conference. Would UND have to step on WDAZs toes and do something completely different or would they be able to keep the home games with Mr. Sweeney and Co.?
-
Minnesota didn't have a choice in the Big 10 essentially. Lucia and Maturi spoke out against it, however voted for it. Why risk membership in a premier conference in all the other HUGE sports (football, basketball) to say no to Big10 hockey? They can't go independent in those sports just to remain in the WCHA. They were put up against the wall created by Barry Alvarez. It would be like UND all the sudden saying no to the Big Sky in football, basketball, etc which would be a huge mistake as well. Most logical UMN fans are against the move to the Big10 as well, so let's not paint with a broad brush. With that being said, I am all for UND doing whatever they need to do. I feel bad for you UND fans who travel so darn well and fill up the barns at places like SCSU, Bemidji, Mankato, etc. Such easy roadtrips to make. Everyone can point the fingers at this school and that or whatever, but in the end NO ONE is in a "better" spot right now and there's nothing us fans can do to change anything about it.

So how will that help with the Big Sky?

I'll be honest, one cool thing about NDSUs transition is the new teams coming into the Dome, some of the budding conference rivalries. The SDSU game has definitely been intense the past few years. But you cannot beat a state rivalry between schools separated by a 3 beer drive and season-long bragging rights. Those from NDSU who say UNI or SDSU have "replaced" UND are simply ignorant, and to assume Montana or Montana State will do the same for UND is the same. -

No. I don't care which side you root for. It is and always will be the biggest game. -

There are a lot of Bison fans on this site, they are also Sioux hockey fans. For either fan base to suggest that one program is superior to the other or has moved on is laughable. In five years once UND has become post-season eligible and has played the Big Sky, etc they wil be on equal footing. No one has "forgot" about anything. Some Bison fans can claim SDSU or UNI is their big football rival.....some UND fans will claim Montana State or Montana is their big rival in the future.....BS. Nothing gets the blood boiling on a beautiful fall day like UND/NDSU. -

Bison fan here who wants it back. A couple points: I wish they could do it annually but I understand that since they will not be in the same conference it makes it more difficult. Both teams have difficult conference schedules, and it is a race to 7 and usually 8 wins for the playoffs. So we are always looking at the payday games (UM, Kansas, Colorado State, etc) as well as the cupcake home game early in the year. In my opinion, the best case scenario would be a conference game. Obviously that isn't going to happen because everyone involved is or was too pigheaded to do this thing together (hindsight is 20/20). Because of the cupcake and payday factor, I think the next best option is every other year, and rotate venue. Iowa State and Iowa can do it on a larger level, I wish we could see it happen here. And everyone hates each other I guess, but count me in the camp that even though you hate your rival, you can also make each other better. -
He lives in Detroit Lakes. Send him to...Stillwater??

I'm a Bison fan and season ticket holder man. However I respect UND and am one fan (I guess one of very few for some reason) that thinks it's better for our area to have each school good/competitive and not want to measure wieners everytime Bison/Sioux comes up in any sport.
-
Fact. People on both sides can sit here and say "we don't care about UND/NDSU" but I am one who misses the weeks, games and friendly smack for all sports.

It is impossible to compare UND football and UND hockey. I know everyone wants to, but how can you compare a team that is already 90% drafted by professionals to one that might get someone drafted if they're a stud or maybe some free agent looks? WCHA hockey is dang near the next best thing to NHL hockey. The recognition will not be the same because the product related to it's particular sport aren't even close. Damn Frattin went straight to the NHL...seriously! The NDSU comparison is a good one (put the hatred aside please). A team with a so-so record can get in, ride a defense, a wave of emotions, a belief in what is going on....and the chips were there for them to get a second home game in the NATIONAL SEMIFINALS had they taken care of business on one or two plays. You just never know how fast UND football will come around, and if it is sooner rather than later, it will be a b*tch for a deserved team not to be rewarded with a home game or possibly two or three (EWU).
-
25,000 AVERAGE attendance? Shoot for the stars.
-
If football teams in the Big Sky are competing against UND for a top notch recruit do you think that will be used against UND? Or Basketball for that matter? Hell even non-conference such as SDSU, USD, NDSU? Going throughout your career without the chance of a home playoff game? I don't know the answer....my guess is opposing coaches will drill that into recruits, every advantage they can get.
-
First off, this whole thing sucks IMO just wanted to get that out there. OK. I'm curious with OSU and PSU. They have the money to make things happen. With the Big 10 exposure (name, tv, etc) I wonder if they will be able to be more successful in recruiting. For example, in the early going of the conference let's say they are competing with WCHA schools like Mankato, AA, Tech or Bemidji etc for a prospect from Canada. Will the name recognition, TV, big time college sports atmosphere, etc turn that recruit towards those schools? I personally believe that those schools are gonna reap the benefits of this and will become competitive in a hurry. I think the local kids (midwest, etc) will stick to the local schools but it is with those type of kids of really have no local allegience where I think psu and osu will make some hay early on in the recruiting process.

College Hockey doesn't exactly sell advertisements either, to be fair to KFAN. It sucks for us diehard puck fans but most would rather talk vikings year round. Cardinal is awesome. Maybe they could get Schlossman on there once in awhile. The best puck talk is Bernie's show on Saturday morning on 740 followed by Beyond the Pond. But usually folks have things going on Saturdays at that time of day.
