I've been watching Sioux hockey since I was 3. I ran with my dad from university Ave to the old Ralph to see phil Sykes and Doug smail . I also have played the game and am currently a USA hockey coach. criticism is deserved.

By that standard, some of our best players this year were non-producers.

Other skaters that could be cut aren't scholarship and can continue to practice/play roles. Berry gets an "underperforming" review to be put on notice

totally agree. I don't doubt the boys gave it there all, but the product was not entertaining. Like I said in a different post. The Jacques Lemaire era of the Wild made it so I can never be a fan...as much as I love Parise and as much of a regional loyalty I feel. I cheer for the Jets over the Wild.

I contend our talent was that bad. At least compared to what we're used to.

Quality of life for a hockey player is WAY better at UND than the Coast for sure and even the AHL. Unless your family is desperate for cash and you get a max signing bonus, there is no reason to leave for any league other than the National.

So, the simple reality of an in-demand prospect is: you go where your best shot is at developing to get to the next level. If that includes winning, great! If that includes a free education, great! The key is to be a development path. Sure, you get some regional bias- Toews and Osh choosing NoDak, Eichel choosing BU, etc. But the reality is you have to prove that you are a development path. Hak did it. Berry has not. This is the biggest single risk to Sioux Hockey. Means way more than Natty's or Broadmoors or Penny Rossas. Its the way you truly fill the tank and build opportunities for those trophies. If you're a legit NHL talent, its okay to eventually lose if you are in a system that showcases your ability to put up points and develop a 200 foot game. We had none of that this year. Our best forward was a transfer, who I really like, but would've been a stalwart center on most Sioux team third lines, chipping in and being loved...Not our leading scorer. If my kid is being looked at for D1 in a few years, I'd send him to Duluth over UND right now.

I would if I were him. Zero Question. Mismash I believe is too old to go CHL, so he is pretty much F'd like a house cat. He has to stay and try to develop. If I'm an advisor, I am telling everyone of my players to get out!!!!

DU might be the worst top 10 team in memory, winning a bunch of tight games against a team that's probably the 22nd best team in the country supports that

It was fun though, and thats why I try to watch. I used to hold on tight. The last two years have allowed me to not care as much. That's good for me...not sure what it means for Sioux hockey
