  1. Since 03-04, Miami has only missed the NCAAs 3 times. They also made consecutive Frozen Four appearances in 2009 and 2010. So, while not a "dynasty" they have consistently been in the top 16 of college hockey. Knocking that performance is kinda petty- especially from the defending champs who've only missed the tourney once in 20 years, with 3 titles, and 11 frozen fours in that time period. Kinda like Brad Pitt dissing the local homecoming king...we're better than that.
  2. This is something that had me perplexed for awhile. Evidently, the new line of thinking is to support rather than play the traditional position. In the circumstance you describe, the D is licensed to leave the front of the net to provide support to his partner. This passes the buck to the pivot to cover the front of the net or the wingers if its a dman sleeping down. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but support is being drilled into kids as superordinate to your position.
  3. agreed- kid can shoot. No way that he leaves after this season. He's what, a 5th round pick? Washington is going to be patient with him.
  4. Ahcan is one of the best skaters around and a heckuva hockey player...he keeps proving the size doubters wrong. The kid was the dman of the year in the USHL last year and has made the transition to D1 look pretty easy. The only thing wrong with him is that he doesn't wear green on Friday and Saturday nights
  5. and Chad Krys gets the Ralph Cox talk last night...helluva hockey player...lots of good players let go off this team. Go USA!!!
  6. I don't think you can isolate roller hockey as the why, but certainly all reps practicing deception help. TJ has absolutely sick hands. That skill translates to shootout goals.
  7. I got a powerplay hat trick once in peewe- got all 4 years of eligibility left too...thinking about calling up bubbs just hope I don't have to do a zone entry....or backcheck...or god forbid, get hit
  8. Big honor to wear the maple leaf, especially at 18 in this tourney
  9. Too much hate- he didn't work for us...could be reasons we don't know beyond ice time and production. I have no ill will for the kid.
  10. 6'3 22years old playing in the AHL...he still has a shot. Judging by point production, they are likely trying to develop him as a 4th possible 3rd line NHLer if he develops some intangibles in terms of two-way responsibilities, pk, or face-offs He likely enjoyed sniping 47 in major junior...
  11. Chevy Chase...is that Spies like us or Fletch...blanking...gotta be Fletch, right?
  12. Sounds like it was nagging from the get go- but if someone slashed my already hurt wrist,I might go bananas too
  13. I wonder if Vancouver's team orthopedist will do the surgery.
  14. Anybody remember the final roster cut day?
  15. To me, the performance of the elite teams: USA, Canada, Russia, Czech, Finland, Sweden is really all about coaching and goaltending. The difference in skill at this elite level at these elite programs is so marginal...even At the 4th line. i love this tourney.
  16. I bet more guys are dinged up than is reported too- I wouldn't be surprised if Gardner is dealing with something. the break will be good- heal up, maybe do nothing but special teams practices when they do get on the ice.
  17. Do you mean that hockey is a regional niche sport? How enlightening....I had no idea...I guess I should quit being passionate about UND hockey and become a Yankees baseball fan...then I could be like more people...because my goal is to like whatever is most popular and not like anything that is less popular. i hope your post makes you feel better about yourself, because you clearly need attention and have some major underlying insecurity issues.
  18. I'd spin it and say who has been productive: Gersich and Jost consistently Boeser when healthy ill give Yon, Bowen, and Smith due to age and role. Thats it other than a game or two here and there. Pogo and Rhett need to consistently contributed a goal a game between them. if we can get a goal a piece/ weekend on average from Boeser, Gersich, Jost, Pogo and Gardner and a goal per weekend from the remaining 7 forwards, that is 6 per weekend, which should give us a chance to win without heroics on the backend. add a goal per weekend from the D and we're in good shape. as stated, our special teams are killing us right now...
  19. This is text book coaching 101...you draw it up and tell the kid where they should be...then they go there...they don't play hockey, they try to do what they've been instructed...might as well paint it on the ice where we will be... Gotta PLAY HOCKEY
  20. On the PP, you identify/create a 2x1, then if you beat someone man to man, you create a 3x1, thats when you should score every time...our guys are playing their position and not supporting nor creating. The game is fluid, on the PP you just have to play pond hockey.
  21. The powerplay- and this applies to every system- is all about identifying and capitalizing on 2-1s...we appear to have no concept
  22. If you told an NCAA player that he couldn't abide by the terms of Team Canada or Team USA for the WJC, yet the CHL will absolutely release players to play in that tourney, it would really hurt college recruiting for top talent. Sucks for us, but it is what it is...if you want the Parises, Toews, Oshies, Boessers, Nelsons, Kristos, Grimaldis, Staffords, Schmaltzs...you gotta let the kids play for the red white and blue
  23. I see Union is 12 in the PWR and rocking 11 wins...hurts to likely be down our two best players for that one. As stated, the WJC is an amazing tourney and it is certainly a dream to represent your country in that event, so can't blame Brock and Tyson...bummer for us though
  24. he played well...I think he got a pair of helpers
