Based on their most recent game lineup, McKown and Cooley are paired up together on the top line and Laba’s centering the second line. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayotte sometimes puts all three together in later stages of a game, particularly if they are down a goal.

So typically UND leaves a day earlier than normal for the Colorado road trips. That said, I’d be curious to know whether or not they’ll be able to fly out today given the bad weather and numerous flight cancellations already this morning. Edit: Just read that there’ve been over a 1,000 flight cancelations this morning, with most of those being flights into or out of Denver and Minneapolis.

Well, after finishing the first half of the season in third place in the standings, CC has really struggled in the second half, going 1-8-1 in their ten games since the start of the new year. In those ten games, scoring goals has become a real challenge. They’ve scored 11 goals during that stretch, largely relying on guys like Hunter McKown, Noah Laba, and Stanley Cooley. Besides those three, the production really drops off. What has kept some of the games within reach has been the outstanding goaltending of freshman goaltender, Kaidan Mbereko (could we see Matt Vernon enter the transfer portal at season’s end?). The Tigers are playing .500 hockey at Robson Arena, going 7-7-0.

2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Just to add some lighthearted commentary, back home visiting and was at the Sioux Shop picking up some stuff for my 3 year old daughter and afterwards I was out in the concourse looking at all the old pictures and historical stuff from those great Sioux teams from the 1950’s and beyond. The warm, proud feelings I always get whenever I look at pictures I’ve probably seen a hundred times and it never, ever gets old to me. I am so proud of this hockey program and the legacy all these great players and coaches have left. -
Anyone know if there will be Sioux boosters tomorrow?

2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Perhaps. Although I remember having some classes with some of the hockey players and based on my experiences, I sometimes wonder the legitimacy of that reason/excuse for why they can’t recruit better players. Point being, there are CC apologists who accept their place in the NCHC pecking order based on the so-called tough academic standards. If that’s the case, how did they have that nice run from about 96 to 2011 where they were competing for league championships and national tournament berths? -
2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Hell, in addition to ASU, I’d also throw CC in there as well. Sunny days 300 days a year, campus with direct views of Pikes Peak, and a brand new on-campus arena. But to your point, there’s gotta be more to recruiting talent than climate. -
Not sure the reasonings behind it but this was the first year it changed to be consistent with the regular season OT format. Hate to see a championship decided by a shoot out but if you’re gonna go into one, great to have a goaltender like Levi between the pipes.

That three on three overtime was crazy! There’s where playing a three on three is exciting. Too bad the Beanpot has to be decided by a gimmicky shootout but hey, that was fun too. Congrats Northeastern and to MVP Devon Levi.

2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Highly speculative and no basis for this comment but since we’re all thinking out loud here, I’ll post my comments… I could see senior Matt Vernon of CC entering the transfer portal at the conclusion of this season. It’s been very clear from early on that freshman Kaiden Mbereko was going to be Mayotte’s guy from the get-go (and with good reason as Mbereko has demonstrated). Vernon, while smaller and sometimes erratic in his playing style, is a capable collegiate level goaltender. I just don’t see him staying at CC for a fifth year, mostly riding the pine. Just a name to keep in the back of your heads if/when he decides to enter the portal. -
If we end up going to Baxter and they beat us, they’ll hang a banner.

CC with the OT shootout victory now is in sole possession of sixth place. UND drops to seventh.

Sounds like Hennessy is not having any luck getting a post game interview with Berry.

If Omaha secures home ice, they’ll draw well too.

It felt like we were chasing the game right off the bat.

I think Chrona learned a painful lesson in sticking his nose where it didn’t belong. Double teaming Beck from behind is kind of a bush league move. I guess he got the last laugh with the victory so whatever.

I was just saying the same thing to my buddy! So glad to having seen Tech having success at both the conference as well as national level. We sat next to their fans at the west regional last March and they were so cool! And spirited! They even brought their pep band and even after losing to Duluth, they stuck around for the Lowell/DU game and cheered and played!

Whoever’s in charge of the music at Amsoil in between play is a genius! Iron Maiden, Sammy Hagar, Rush, Ratt, Kiss, Twisted Sister. Keep it coming!

1-1, Dogs just tied it

Eastern Michigan/Ball State basketball going to overtime so feel free to go out and get yourself a ham sandwich as this game won’t end for another half hour.
-
27.9 seconds to play in the Eastern Michigan/Ball State basketball game televised on CBS Sports prior to the NCHC game of the week, which means the game won’t end for another 20 minutes.

Sadly, I don’t know if Miami has much of a chance this weekend at St. Cloud. I know they split with Cloud a few months back but that was in Miami and on the smaller sheet. St. Cloud is very difficult to play against on that Olympic ice. Here’s hoping though that the RedHawks can somehow manage to steel some points this weekend.
