  1. To your fourth point about defensive commitment and sticks in lanes, was that Schmaltz who got a critical poke check on a Gopher player in the dying seconds of last night’s game that prevented them from getting a grade A shot off? Whoever it was, it was a huge defensive play!
  2. Agreed. Alex reminded the viewer this weekend about how UND was only 70 seconds away from sweeping the Gophers last year but if we’re being honest with ourselves, Minnesota dominated play for much of that weekend. If not for cashing in on timely power plays and DeRitter saving our bacon, things probably would’ve been different. This year’s UND team looks faster, deeper offensively and much more responsible defednzively.
  3. In honor of the great Dan Hammer, the traditional circle of sticks!
  4. One that isn’t so memorable in the sense that UND was the primary focus but circa 1995/1996 season, I was attending a CC game at the Air Force Academy Cadet Ice Arena (CC’s temporary home while they were building World Arena), the Tigers were chasing the McNaughton Cup with the Gophers neck and neck down the home stretch. During the CC game, the PA guy kept the Tigers fans up to date with scores from the Sioux/Gophers game. Every time it was announced that UND was winning, there’d be a huge roar from the CC fans. Upon the final update that UND had won, the crowd went absolutely nuts in delight. As a UND fan, I felt proud to at least experience a vary rare occurrence of a non-North Dakota fan base cheering on the Sioux so loudly (for selfish reasons, of course). Fun memory though nonetheless to see UND do their part in helping some other team win the conference championship at the expense of the Gophers winning it.
  5. Yah man, easy for me to say sitting back in the comfort of my living room but just such an unnecessary penalty that could’ve cost us. Hopefully we will keep our emotions in check this weekend and minimize the penalties.
  6. Are you talking about that two handed pop to the back of the Badgers player near the boards behind our own net? (At least that’s my recollection of the play). If so yes, such an unnessary penalty. Just get your body on the guy, tie him up along the boards with the puck to help chew up precious clock time.
  7. Coach Mayotte is very bullish on Montgomery thus far… https://paisleyhockey.wordpress.com/2023/10/18/tigers-look-to-sustain-strong-start-despite-stern-test-from-defensive-minded-sharks-this-weekend/?fbclid=IwAR1DndV-rG3NtAi-5XAOCZ9ZE-cTa3MD4OK8EuIIS4zXWdsJLjHm6YsRFnA
  8. I love his moxie and confidence! Loved his response to the question about who the fastest player on the team is and he said he is but that if you asked all 27 players, they’d say the same thing and how important it is to believe in yourself. He doesn’t strike me as a hockey player who gives the typical, cliched responses to questions from the media. Also loved his personal heart felt responses about dedicating those goals to his “old ma” and grand parents. Someone on this board mentioned Cole Smith as someone who comes to mind when comparing to Johannes. Such a spot on comparison!
  9. Grand Forks native Drew Montgomery named the NCHC rookie of the week. https://nchchockey.com/news/2023/10/16/mens-ice-hockey-kj-branding-nchc-players-of-the-week-october-9-15-2023.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2pdMdval_sK9D0WevCZXeJ8rlxuxsWg_cwsqMfBLNP2eqVQaSsGeyoS1w
  10. https://ccha.com/ min case anyone wants to see the highlights of the CCHA games, they do a good job of posting on the CCHA website.
  11. I heard Wisconsin hit three or four posts last night. Hard to say how the rest of the game would’ve transpired had a couple or all of them had gone in. I’m sure Berry’s game plan would’ve adjusted accordingly.
  12. Hope the game will be televised out here in Colorado. Would love to watch!
  13. Grand Forks native and freshman Drew Montgomery named the game’s number one star tonight with 2 goals and an assist in his first collegiate hockey game for the Tigers. Not a bad way to start.
  14. CC leads union, 7-3. Drew Montgomery (GF) with his second of the night.
  15. CC 4-1 against Union. Grand Forks native Drew Montgomery (brother of Dane) with an absolute beauty of a goal just now for the Tigers.
  16. Will the Jan Brady fans whine about the officiating today given they won?
  17. Trolling Facebook, St. Cloud fans are up in arms over the officiating in their game tonight. I see St. Thomas had only 7 power plays to St. Cloud’s six and St. Cloud did score 4 power play goals.
  18. 3-1, CC after two. Way too many penalties taken by The Tigers forcing Kaidan Mbereko to have to make several tough saves.
  19. Brad Berry and Riese Gaber will be guests on the Bruce Ciskie radio show on KDAL next Wednesday if you care to listen. https://kdal610.com/podcasts-bruce-ciskie-show/
  20. Eloquent post. The NCHC is the best all around conference in all of college hockey! One thing I found disappointing was the steep increase in single game ticket prices at Magness. I was able to buy the last of the available end tickets for the UND series for $51 a piece. The available seats along the sides all ran for $90 a ticket, face value. I don’t ever recall paying anywhere near that much for a premium series DU ticket. I also picked up my tickets for the DU/CC series and those were $58 a piece. Again, significantly higher than I remember paying in the past. To your points about increased interest in DU hockey, perhaps that’s why they’ve raised ticket prices again; because they can and they know that there are fans out there willing to pay the going rate. I’m all about free market capitalism and I can vote with my wallet and feet but $90 a ticket for a college hockey game? Seems a bit high and if it continues on this trajectory, I’m going to reach my tipping point and simply stay home and watch the games on NCHC.tv. And I’m not trying to single out DU, I would imagine this trend is across most programs as well. Good luck finding a general admission ticket for a CC home game if you’re a visitor fan because there aren’t any; all the seats at Robson are either season ticket holder seats or student section. I know of many CC fans who gladly sell their UND and DU series tickets at jacked up prices on the secondary market to those fan bases.
  21. When he’s calm he’s fine but yah, any scoring opportunity or goal for the Bulldogs and the guy’s voice goes up about ten octaves.
  22. https://www.therinklive.com/mens-college/nchc/bulldog-insider-podcast-matt-zach-and-bruce-preview-the-2023-24-season Bruce Ciskie is picking the Bulldogs to finish third this season. Homer pick perhaps? I guess he could end up right too. Miami could end up winning the Penrose Cup as well. He also mocked whoever gave UND first place votes in the media poll. “None of us are the weirdos who voted North Dakota #1 with eight new defensemen and a new goaltender.” He made it clear that none of the three Duluth media guys voted North Dakota number one, he wanted that point made crystal clear. Zach Schneider is predicting a sixth place finish (I’m guessing ahead of CC and Miami, he didn’t say). Much more statistical analysis to defend his pick than what Ciskie offered up. Matt Wellens is predicting the Dogs finishing fifth. With DU, UND, Omaha, and St. Cloud ahead of them. He thinks the goaltending will improve but worries about where the goal scoring will come from.
  23. If you’re thinking about buying tickets for the UND/DU series at Magness Arena (Dec 1 & 2), I’d highly recommend that you get your tickets now and not procrastinate like I did. Most tickets have already sold, especially Saturday’s game. Oh, and most sections are selling for $90 a seat. https://denverpioneers.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventList?groupCode=HSG&linkID=denver&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=
  24. It’s been a decade long dry spell.
