Or others like Jeremy Roenick who did summer school to finish his degree. Yes, I agree, they don't have to have a good drive towards education because they are drafted but who says they aren't going to need it down the road? I mean, look at the NFL. The average career of an NFL player is 3-5 years. NHL, I'd say, is far shorter. I'm not surprised at what he said. Just a little disappointed.

Ok, this isn't an idea about Yale, but it is some notes I picked up about Yale's players. First off, Yale has FOUR goalies, one senior, one junior, a sophomore and a freshman. We will NOT be seeing the Freshman in this series. Interestingly enough, we may not see the senior goalie either. I expect the junior, Peter Cohen (who played us last year), to start the game, with the sophmore, Josh Gartner, to back him up. This is because these two goaltenders played the most games last year and, unless things are radically different, they will be the same this year. Their star is defenseman Jeff Dwyer. He is 6'2" 197lb. Probably their version of Schneider. Interestingly enough he is not the Captain. Senior Forward Vin Hellemeyer (5'9" 175lb) is the captain and there are no assistant captains according to the websites (both Yale's and USCHO). However the media guide lists Jeff Dwyer as an assistant captain (picture of the guy wearing a jersey with an A on it). Their head coach is from Harvard. If any of you know the rivalry between Harvard and Yale, that might be something to key in on. They have a pair of defensemen who are 6'3" 215, but no 6'7" goliaths on this team. They average from 5'9" to 6'3" with most players right at 6'. They are fairly light on their skates weighing between 170 and 215 lbs. Vin Hellemeyer (11-20-31 last season), Christian Jensen (10-15-25), and Ryan Steeves (15-23-38) seem to be their biggest scoring threats from the forward position while they really don't have any scoring defensemen, Joe Callahan lead the Bulldogs with 2 goals and 11 assists last season with Jeff Dwyer (1g 17a) coming in second (going from a goals scored perspective. Points perspective, reverse the order). I'd say we're going to slaughter this team. Only good thing about Yale is that their Sophomore goaltender appears to be pretty good. He posted a 2.54 GAA last season with a save percentage of .917

I'd go to Tailgators myself. TVs at every table in the back. Good stuff. We used to go there every Saturday for a while to watch Northwestern football with a friend. Needed to practice rooting for a loser. Ok, so it's my father's and my brother's alma mater, but hey.

Even Al Michaels came down on Phoenix for not filling the stadium. You know it is bad when Al uses up one of the few times he can talk over Jim "Blabbergut" Madden to scold Phoenix.

I guess I'm slow, but is this the same goat type thing that is with the Cubs curse? If not, what's the deal with the goat?

"MInnesota is a corporate crowd" I think that's a no brainer. Perhaps it's because only corporate types can afford tickets

Another power forward? Hmmmmm It could get interesting. Also look at the Murray highlights. Poor camera work, but the end to end is really nice. I wish he could open it up like he did then. He's fast.

Too bad the Penguins only have Mario. He's too old to be effective defensively and so Fleury is high and dry. That being said, BLAKE RULES!

5 first round picks? That alone sounds like a good deal. Then trade your 4th or later picks for some talent for now. Obviously, the five picks will not be in the same year, but two first round picks for the next five years is a good thing.

David Hale has a groin injury... Where's that Devils person? Dropping the puck again?

cheeringetcetc. That is sad, but you missed my point. The Bench minor was given to us because we couldn't fill a 11,500+ arena for BC series. Yeah, 75K showed up for the game but /there were still empty seats/. I feel it is more understandable to have empty seats in an arena when you have to pay for tickets on a weekend series that you may have other events going on. If it is free and ON CAMPUS... Ask yourself: Aside from being at work or having to be with family: IS THERE ANY REASON WHY YOU CANNOT GO TO THE GAME? Have to study? Bring your books. How sad.

I'm curious if there isn't an age requirement? Stafford is 17 currently. Could that be holding him off the team?

I'll give JJ an 89 percent chance of stopping the book In any case, I think WPoS is right, just because you didn't get caught doesn't mean you aren't accountable for your actions. I'm not saying that Blais can eliminate the air of invulnerability from the hockey players. But he won't be punching them out like whatshisname in Wisconsin either. (God Leavitt is a crybaby. If he didn't suck so bad, I doubt that would have been a big issue) Blais needs them to keep a level head on their shoulders. Too much invulnerability, and they will get smacked down so hard on the ice that it'll make last year's troubles look minor.

Problem is, Kiss isn't in town until the Minnesota series, so doing that during the Yale series wouldn't make sense. Also, the Peter Criss reference would largely go unnoticed because I doubt we're in an area that knows the intricacies such as that of rock history. Thanks for all your hard work, YaneA!

Not too impressed with what he said about the educational side and one COULD read into what he said regarding Major Juniors, but it was a nice article. He does make me think though. Sometimes, when I see these excellent players like Balfour, Parise, Hrkac, Vanek, Ballard, etc. I wonder why they didn't go Major Juniors, as it appears, at least historically, that most NHL stars come from Major Juniors? It makes me thankful to have what we have. And darn it, I'm happy to call myself a Greene fan!!! Kick their @rse Greene Giant!

If the game was on ESPN, you shouldn't wonder why they are giving it up for the NBA. ESPN was founded on basketball, college basketball to be specific and eventually it moved up to NBA and then outward to other sports. What does this mean? It means hour long sportscenters with 50 minutes of it relating to basketball. Too bad I think the NBA sucks and there are about 200 too many college basketball games in a season. :/

On a similar, yet unrelated note: I think a much more serious bench penalty should be given to the students of ASU and the citizens of Phoenix, Az. Why? Because the SD vs Miami NFL game was FREE FREE FREE!!! And there was STILL empty seats!

BAH HUMBUG! Not to appear overconfident, I'd bet that they will NOT play. Here's why: The Sioux need to figure out how best to put points on the board when Zach is not in the equation. We don't want to be a one line team and taking Zach out voluntarily isn't an option. With an infraction, you can work on this dilemma and still have a viable reason for sitting Zach out. No, I'm not saying that Blais is hoping that Zach gets in trouble, but whenever a team takes the ice, they head right to Zach. If they can make the Sioux offense into a threat without Zach, just think about what it will be like with him on the ice? With Matt- Blais doesn't take any crap. PERIOD. He will not tolerate a freshman foisting an attitude of invulnerability. It's a "know your role" type of thing.

I'll be more than happy to hold up any sign and I sit right next to forecheck... or I did when I was at the BC series I'll send an email anyways.

Using last season as a reference, I would say the first series after the Holiday tourney would be when it really starts to count.

*eats crow again* WPoS is right. It tastes like Chicken... It can be taken in two directions: The organization's fault, meaning that they didn't cave and give him what he wanted based on what players who have similar roles on other teams are getting -OR- it's the player's fault, pulling an Eric Lindros and basically throwing a hissy fit over not getting enough money. What does this mean for Gaborik? Uncertain. HOWEVER, the one answer is obvious: Trade. The Boston Bruins were in the same situation with Anson Carter a few years back. The Bruins shopped around and found someone who would pick up his contract at the asked price. The Bruins signed him and then shipped him to Edmonton. Obviously, Carter didn't stay in Edmonton (He's a Ranger now) but the point still stands. Organizationally, this is what the Wild need to do. Forecheck asked if holdouts effect morale. Well, from the looks of it, this is when it DOES affect morale. The Wild organization needs to trade him and trade him SOON if they plan on doing anything this season with Gaborik. Who's fault is it? (This is my opinion) I think it is the sports agent's fault mostly but the Wild ownership is partially to blame as well. Remember, the Wild GM may represent the organization in contract negotiations, but the ownership controls the money. If the ownership doesn't give the GM the requested money, then the GM can only blow sunshine. I would not blame Wild GM, or anyone lower on the totem pole for this occurrance. I would also not blame Gaborik. He's being told what he is worth by his agent. And, like Dagies states, his agents are crooks. Start shopping folks, let's see who is available.

Since this series is over Halloween, I thought I'd start a poll to see which of these refs will scare the crap out of us when they skate onto the ice on Friday and eventually anger us into calling for his head. One should note: Derek Sheperd has yet to appear this season to my knowledge.... it may be time for him to show up.

Uh, that's precisely what happened last year, Superman. The Gophers were CRAP the first half of the season, the laughing stocks of all defending national champions. They didn't look like they were even going to make regionals and then the second half of the season happened and they blew everyone away. Gopher fans aren't worried because this is the same thing that happened last year. Question is, when the second half of the year begins, will JJ be able to stand on his head like Weber did? My guess is no, he won't, but who knows. Everyone has admitted that Lucia doesn't put a whole lot of emphasis on early season games.
