I don't know, shouldn't you be talking about hockey instead of bitching about our right to express opinions prevalent to the UND Hockey team? Oops, sorry, too big words. Here's a simplification: If you don't have something productive to say, shut up.
-
I agree. I may not think highly of these people, but there is nothing I can do other than to try to get my neighbor more into the game or just ignore them and feel pity if something bad happens to them in the middle of their gossip session. I just want to emphasize that these people, regardless of what they actually do during the games, actually paid for their tickets (or their tickets were paid for somehow) and so therefore are supporting the hockey team whether they are there or not, paying attention or talking about what that b!#ch whatshis/hername did yesterday at work/in class/etc. Nowadays, with all the technology, peoples' time is pretty precious. So, according to the board here, if 11,479 out of 11,500 show up to a game and those 21 seats aren't sold or given to another person, it still is ok.
-
I'm giong to give a shout out on this debate being and feeling responsible for getting a ticket for one of those people. (if you know who I am and where I sit, I'll kill you if you tell him). I should have known he would pull this crap, only well, he spends right up until the intros either somewhere else or at the bar. Usually the bar now that the season has begun. It was a mistake and I admit it. Oh well. Doing favors for friends who don't deserve it wasn't my intention. If my roommate didn't have to work every weekend, he'd be sitting there instead of him. You may call them chumps and all, but at least one idiot who assisted one get a seat feels a little shame As for selling them... No because the seats "belong" to the student who has those season tickets. Any behavior adverse to the contract we signed :sigh: and the student and the "owner" of the seat are banned from the arena for the remainder of the season. And I definitely don't want a member of the general public sitting with us. That was a bad idea even in the days of the Old Ralph.

I'm watching the Wild game currently. I REALLY wish we could lure Kerry Frasier to the WCHA. What a ref.
-
I would agree with UNDLaw but really, I think Brandt has some motivation. You see, Brandt has to have his game on and here's why: He has Parise and Z on his heels and Lamaroux (I know I misspelled his name, forgive me) coming in next year. If he chokes and doesn't do well, he will end up either another Ranfranz, quickly going from #1 ro a backup role fast, or at worst, another Siembida. After the Siembida debacle, we all know Blais isn't about to put up with any crap. That's why it's pretty much do it or lose it... forever this year for Brandt.

Anyone remeber the wobblies? Those little pear shaped figurines that you couldn't knock over? They made kiddie punching bags using that thing. Get those with the two faces on it.

Campion did a really good job. I would have to say he's the best in the WCHA. Every penalty he called when he did the UW vs UND game, upon replay was indeed a penalty. Maybe he had a good game for those two games, but it seemed to be tha he had good eyes and he made good decisions. Mike Schmitt, well, He makes the list of good refs because of everyone else is so poor. Isn't there also Craig Schmidt too? I know there is one by that name who is a hockey ref. He gets his hair cut by my next door neighbor. I also know that he has ties to UND. As for Greg Shepherd, I reserve comment on his personal reffing abilities because I've never personally watched one of his games to my knowledge. As to his leadership, being the head ref of the WCHA, Iwould have replaced him a long time ago. Part of management is standing up for the quality of your underlings. That much he does and does vehemently. However, a large part of his job in that position is to ensure that the refs are striving to improve and work themselves into a better and more professional caliber officiating performnce. So far, he's failed in this job. Maybe money has a part in it, but it doesn't have everything to do with it. Paul Kariya took a 2 mil a year pay cut to sign with the Avs. North Dakota schools test higher in standardized tests and ACT/SAT scores on average than all but 4 states in the nation yet boast the 49th best in pay scale for teachers. Money isn't everything. One note about Campion, if he evolves to be too good of a ref, I'm sure he'll go to the AHL or NHL and leave the conference without a decent ref. My two cents

Stafford: Rumors place him going in the first round. Initially I heard that he'd go in the top 15, but I'm not so sure. Yeah, he's good, but I've always seen hype surrounding prospective high picks such as that and there doesn't really seem to be as much hype surrounding Stafford. In fact, before the season started, we were all talk about Murray. I'm not going to be naive. I'd say he goes middle first round to very very early second round. My pick at who chooses him: New Jersey or Detroit. Yeah, I'll be forward in saying that. I say Detroit because they DESPERATELY need a young power forward. Drew would fit the bill. That's where I sit at this point. The pipeline goes like this: SSM -- UND -- NJD

SFiP- I think you meant "... no reservations about..." I think the ref who ref'd the Wisconsin vs UND series last season was pretty good.
-
I think you are right, but I also think he's aiming big at the same time. It may be true that he seems to be avoiding his first goal, but I think it appears as though he really sees this as a team effort and avoids being selfish. He's always focusing on getting opponents off the puck handler and not getting into scoring position. This is good and bad. Good because, if this is happening in our own zone or in the neutral zone, it could start something. Bad is that if it happens in the opponent's zone, then who's going for the rebounds? I really think Bo is a flat out goal scorer whereas Parise has evolved into a playmaker and playdeveloper among the first line forwards. I really think Murray should be like Ciccarelli: Physical and ALWAYS crashing the net.

Folks, if you remember my only prediction of Saturday's game: It was that Anderson would get worse. So, I vote for Anderson. That was by far the worst reffing job I've ever seen in my years watching Sioux hockey (1995-96, 1998-2000, 2002-Present). There were polls out there and, apparently, every conference has a ref or four that is considered poor. Well, it bothers me that these people are defended after they do a real bad job. Is there a learning curve for a new ref? I admit it would be very steep if there was. However, is there accountability for a ref who does a poor job? It doesn't appear to be so. Frank: Ummmm buddy, Let's set the wayback machine to last season, kay? Let's show Minnesota playing Mankato. Anderson was the ref. 16 penalties in 2 periods. Don't you think something was up with that? Minnesota and Mankato fans were complaining about that. Especially Minnesota, as I believe Mankato won the game.
-
And here I thought I was special. Well now I could go around saying that they had a police officer restrain me from tearing Anderson's head off. What a waste of spit. If you are going to get the ref wet, pour your bottle of water on him. Make sure he doesn't forget you

Technical staff isn't all that great here at UND. They are trying to do something similar with hockey and it's horrible, or so I understand. I think they'll eventually fix the problem, but will it become reliable before the season ends? Who knows.

The hit on Stafford concerned me too. He got up slowly after that. Same thing with the hooking penalty in the BC zone. Can't remember who got slid into the boards hard though. Smaby is improving in the hits department. And I am becoming more and more a fan of Greene. OVERALL: I think one major factor in Saturday's loss was that the team was tired. Fylling was a little slower than normal, everyone seemed to be fatigued. After Friday, I can understand though.

Admittedly, Lundbohm and Murray have had slow starts. But Murray DOES have an assist to his name if not two. Parise has a goal and two assists. As for Massen, I think his role has changed since last year and I think it is taking him a bit to adjust. In fact, I see his role to be similar to Stafford's, but Stafford is obvious far more adept at it than Massen is. That's my opinion. Also, my opinion is: Murray needs to score to make the believers believe, but I watch his play and I am impressed with it so far. I like his aggressive attitude on the ice. I love the fact that he doesn't let his size limit him to who he takes on. And he is FAST! He makes mistakes, but that's to be expected for a freshman. No one is Jeff Panzer his freshman year
-
What was funny was that the police officer looked at me and gave ME the glare she should have given forecheck To make matters more interesting, the police officer after the Saturday game came all the way to warn me not to spit on the refs. Do people actually spit on the refs? Why? All it does is get them wet. I'd rather go to my acquaintence who happens to be on the WCHA board and get his ass fired or at least insist on a formal apology to Blais and the team. On a different note: Everyone should check this article on USCHO out: http://www.uscho.com/news/2003/10/20_007085.php Interesting story all around and the last paragraph is pretty interesting as well.

So? Englestad was UND HOCKEY! Thinking about his attitude, he probably doesn't care about UND Football

Albeit his comments are uncooth and somewhat immature, it is the choice of those out there to respond or not to respond. The point of this board is to express opinions, not start flame fests. I may not like the Bison and Bison fans may not like the Sioux. That's ok. I would emphasize that, instead of telling people to ignore others, that we constantly (if necessary) make reference that this is a respectful bulletin board where sports frans come to chat it up about their favorite teams in regards to, about, or surrounding UND athletics. This is NOT an NDSU, UM, or UNO bulletin board. It is a UND one. We allow people from other schools to post out of our good grace and our belief that they may have something productive to say. So far people like Bisonmav, Biosnguy, Greyeagle, Sagard (the last two on the hockey board), and a few others, have really exemplified what this board, I feel, is all about as far as representing another school. I'm not pointing fingers at certain individuals from other schools and saying they are poor fans because I'm not naive or blind enough to claim that all UND fans who post to these boards are not the same way. Realisticly speaking, there is immaturity on both sides of the "fence" in some areas. Even I have my moments. So, instead of trying toget Bison1234 to leave, how about urging everyone regardless of school to behave like mature adults?

Bina? Not really. With all the hype that Foyt has, I'd love to see him play though. When you think about it, it doesn't look good for either getting much time even next year. Schneider and Hale graduate and Radke and Beaverson come in to take their place. Come to think of it, we're leaving history behind. We were historically the small, fast team. Now we're becoming the giants. I'd work on Bina to see if he can stick handle and skate. See how fast he is too. Maybe we can develop him into a Lee Marvin type role but faster. As for Brandt/Parise- It's really a tough decision. I've seen Parise twice now (we all have but hey) and he's been strong, but he is letting them in. However, I really think Jordan is showing that he has GREAT potential but is really still just a freshman. Brandt needs to stay home more. Even Patrick Roy would tell him that now.

I need to clarify why I voted yes. I don't think the current system makes the game remotely interesting. Why? It's like figure skating with a stick and a puck when you aren't shooting it on goal. Only you have obstacles that move that you'll need to skate around. BORING. I don't think it should be a slug fest and that they should go out a brusin' like their male counterparts, but Body checking? DEFINITELY legal. If there is nothing you can do to the puckhandler aside from trying to swipe at the puck or hope that she loses control of it (and intercept a pass), then there really isn't a point. Literally, I've watched the puck sit for a few seconds between three ladies on the ice before getting picked up by a UConn player (2 UND and 1 UConn player) because if the UND players would have made a run on the puck they would have, most likely, collided with the UConn player, causing a penalty to be called. WHATEVER. And, going on media representations of what many NOW ladies are saying: They want fair represenation and to be considered equals with men. Well, right now, men and women's hockey are not equal. There is still the undertone that says "These ladies are fragile little flowers. Physical play is for boys but if you want to skate around with a stick moving a puck, go right ahead." What crap. Checking is in. Revamp the penalties to reflect it.

BisonMav, It appears I misread your post. My apologies. To reply to schedule making, alright. I see that this isn't an overnight change. Remember, I thought NDSU going D I-AA was a reasonable move (honestly, I didn't really think of the rivalry when I made up my opinion of the move, but even so I still support it). However, I am sure NDSU will play a D I-AA team or two that will be just as "cupcake" as UMC or Moorhead State. As for why it happens, I still stand by my reasoning. BTW- I'd LOVE to watch a Bison-Gophers Football game.
