For those such as myself who didn't see Tony Hrkac play, I voted for him for the simple fact that he beat the East Coast bias and won the Hobey. Just the fact that he did that tells me he was spectacular. It was a hard choice voting for him over Karl though.

This shows that you never let the media make up slogans for anything.

P.S. Just an after thought: If Minnesota wants to claim a grinder and hall of famer as their own, they need only look to Brett Hull. The former UMD standout maintains a residence in Duluth. Just an FYI.

Perhaps, but how many ND players (meaning players born and raised in North Dakota) are in the NHL currently? To my knowledge there is one (Ryan Kraft from Bottineau, ND). Sure, soon there may be more (Schneider, Massen, maybe Fylling and Panzer), but we really do have a minority status to Minnesota. When people from Minnesota call it the State of Hockey, they mean anyone from the state of MN regardless of where they play hockey. Using that definition, there are more players from MN than you think. Yes, after Zach Parise leaves UND, he'll probably be considered a Minnesota product regardless of school. Let Minnesota have their "state of hockey" slogan. It's not a fight, in my opinion, that is worth fighting about. I say endorse that slogan and then steal all of those guys from under UM's nose

Careful with the Asian fellow if he is the President. We could go down a road that would make us look like them very easily.... How about a sign with a pair of Loafers on one side saying "Hush Puppies" And the other side with a crushed SCSU logo saying "Hushed Puppies"?

I held the same opinion before I logged onto this site. There are certain Gopher fans who frequent this board and post that I think are not those kind of Gopher fans you desdain so much. The Gophers are down and out at the moment and well, to some, Ignorance is Bliss. It's like the average drunk. They go out and spend all their money to get drunk every night because they can escape reality for a few hours that way and it helps them cope. I'm not saying all Gopher fans are alcoholics (although if they continue losing it could get interesting at the AA meetings in the Twin Cities), but you must realize that devotion to one's team can get that crazed. I'm sure there are Sioux fans who are the same way. Green Bay is full of them for their NFL team. Hey, look at the Cubs! They have a rabid fan base for a team who rarely sees October as part of the playing season! These fans happen, that's why we go out and look for those fans who can root for their team but are able to admit that their team isn't as good as they want them to be and simply admit the other team was better. Reality is that the Sioux and the Gophers cannot win Championships every year. Expecting Minnesota to 3 peat and 4 peat and so on is unrealistic, just like it is unrealistic to expect The Cubs to win the World Series next year. They might, but it is unlikely.

Like I figured. High on Roche organizationally means that they were hoping to get a Derian Hatcher/ Chris Pronger style out of him. Unrealistic goals and lack of playing time means that Travis was pretty much destined to fail with the Wild. I'm more depressed that he cleared waivers rather than him getting sent down. I thought other teams could have used him more than the Wild obviously do. Set back for the Wild, but business is business. If he isn't the answer, I hope they'll at least trade him to someone who will be serious when they say they'll give him a chance.

North Dakota vs. St. Kloud (Nov 14th and 15th)
redwing77 replied to Superman0099's topic in Men's Hockey
I think they are like the Twins and the 1995 Devils. No one thinks they have anything on the team to value and lo and behold, they're winning games. Sure, they're not blowing people out of the water, but a win is a win is a win. I still forecast a sweep, but I also think this series holds the greatest chance for bad things to happen to the Sioux. No margin for error now. -
Because he's jealous of my poll making abilities (Like SFiP and schmitty have been for some time now )

I love the throw the stick thing. Simpsons MMmmmmMMM Cupcakes is good too. It would be cool to chant "Bad Dog" when they get called for a penalty although "You, sit" works out well too. Obscure movie reference changed to reflect SCSU" "Betcha I can make ya' squeal like a Huskie.. Yipeyipeyipe!"

I want to put the WCHA thing on my jersey. Is that possible at Home of Economy?

I don't find it surprising at all. Whether or not UMD was the first test of an undefeated team, there has to be some votes for a team that has gone 5-0 in conference and is undefeated overall. Do those votes mean anything? No, unless you are looking for recognition. The poll setters recognize SCSU's record by giving them 2 votes. That's all.

I think that the HB is just like the Heisman. Nice award but it is meaningless. Just because you win the HB doesn't make you a great player. Look at Weinke! Look at Heupel? OH! Look at Ryan Leaf. The HB is meaningless. NCs mean everything. Murray isn't scoring as many goals as Bochenski, but look at how many assists he has already. Great players are not always the ones who score the most goals. They are the players that make their team unbeatable (or close to it). Panzer didn't win the HB. He won the NC. Whoopee Doo on the HB. Obviously Peter Senja recieved the same glory Panzer did right? Nope. Sure, he won the HB, but he doesn't have an NC to my knowledge. Sure, I'd love to see Hobey come to GF, but I'm not going to cry if it never does. I want to see double digits in NCs first. Take down Michigan's record first, then worry about Hobey.

There's a place on Columbia in the Grand Cities Mall that will do lettering I think. .936 is impressive... if he has faced enough quality opponents. So far, only UMD under his belt as far as real opponents. It will be intriguing to see how he fares against us.

Can we think up a variant to Cool Jerk? That song from the 60s would be a good chant. How about a Disney reference? "Coole Running...Scared!" We can go for lame generic ones like "Where's the Goalie?" or something like "SCSU, picking up Gopher Reject trash"

Bina gets some action and scores a hat trick on Saturday. This is shortly followed by Federov seen in the Ralph during the next homestand wearing a Bina jersey and chanting for JPar to start against UMD

I'd love to see a side by side photo of PCM and Don Lucia for the hair reference

You'd get ejected? Partial reffing rowards the Sioux. I don't remember that ever being the case with the Sioux when I've been watching. Hey, I thought of something really cool for the Ralph music dude to do. When the opponent gets a penalty and the Captain or some player from that team goes and talks with the ref, the Ralph should pipe in "Get Over It" by Ok Go

Nope. Not yet. I still trust Blais.

Viewing the USA Today Poll, I noticed that Cornell is ranked #11 when last week they weren't ranked. Why does this matter? Well Harvard, currently ranked #12 went up this week from #14. How can a team that was unranked last week surpass a ranked team, let alone 3 of them?
-
Even though I'll stand behind JPar as #2, I'll shock Federov and say that he won't be a true #1 with the Sioux. We have Lammareaux coming next year. He's destined at this junction to wind up #1. Whether it is next season or not is up in the air.

Seems all the "excitement" about Roche was just hot air. I'm hoping someone picks him up.

No worse than those foul wretches they call conservatives. Bush, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Helms, etc.
