That's my favorite kind of goal right there. The Crash the goal and wait for a rebound. Not a pretty goal, but it's a goal, which is all that matters.
-
I was right. 2 stupid penalties.
-
That was an impressive series of penalties. We got lucky. OUr player held the Manitoba stick and drew a penalty. Then Blood checked a Bisons player from behind. We should be down 2 really.
-
Great period for Knight and Kristo. Not so much for Genoway. Eidsness looks sharp. And lame intermission shows? NOOOOOOOOOOO! Seriously, what else is new? They should just stick to chuck a puck and turkey bowling. EDIT: Also, you can tell it is a preseason game for everyone, including the production team as they've made some really bad decisions with cameras. They almost missed the Kristo goal entirely.

I'm really happy about LaPoint. I'm also really struggling so far with recognizing players by numbers. I was amused that Sweeney is too. Apparently Johnny Toews is back on the team.
-
Maybe.... but the hit on MacWilliam was fortunate for Manitoba. It was a CFIB. So far, Manitoba only has had 1 scoring chance.... result? 1-0. The Sioux have burrowed a hole in Christie's jersey. Maybe a matter of time, but so far... a lot of playmaking and very little finishing.
-
And a poorly coded one at that. It's simply lame. Half the time the bear is roaring because it's ass is on fire. I'd roar too, ya know.
-
This Manitoba team isn't the same without the 6 year veteran Krister Toews in nets. Then again, why would the CIAU allow a 30 year old goaltender? There are a fefw 25 year old canadians on the Manitoba team. Best beware.... some Gopher trolls might confuse them with UND.

Couple of comments on the Det and Chi games: CHI game - This game displayed why the Hawks will fall short. HUET. Sorry guys. He made a few great saves, but he faded as the game went on and then, in the OT, he couldn't stop rolling molasses. Yeah, Vokoun played well, but seriously... DET- I know it is only one game, but seriously, still not impressed with Osgood. Question is: If Osgood regular season suckfest continues from last season, will Howard be able to keep the Wings afloat like Conklin did? Who really knows. Both teams are immensely talented offensively, but I'll have to give DET the nod organizationally. The Hawks just overspent and placed themselves in a goaltending quagmire by signing Huet to that ridiculous deal a few years back. Yes, I'll say it is even more ridiculous than the Hossa deal. Hossa is at least proven. Huet had one good year with Montreal and was alright with Washington and got that kind of a deal from Chicago? Seriously. Wow. Maybe the Hawks should go after Budaj to round out the suckfest in the nets? Or perhaps find David Aebischer.

There's scuttlebutt on USCHO that there may even be an NCAA hockey video game coming soon!

Bochenski was also sent down to Norfolk today as well.

This tourney's location MIGHT be still up in the air. The arena it was going to be in was foreclosed upon... if I recall correctly. Tourneys have since jumped ship. No word on if this tourney will bolt as well.

It's certainly gotten better since the Dataflix days. I don't have much faith in the system because of Dataflix. UND and the company that ran the webcasts started the program in a rush and did it, imo, wrong. I might actually spring for it this year....

As a hopeless cynic, I think we will see racial comments.... but not on this board. People are being raised stupid these days. Trust me, I see it all the time. SO.... I expect there will be some stupidity on campus if/when the nickname gets changed. Not everyone thinks with a clear head. Not everyone is rational. And not everyone is mature in thought and mind. EDIT: As for the resolution, I was surprised that the people voted in favor of the nickname in the first place. In fact, I couldn't believe it. The media had me THAT convinced.

It's hard to feel anything but dislike and loathing when the face of their program accuses another fanbase and team of being classless. However, I'm not all that sure that likening us to Phillie fans is all that bad. Phillie fans have been known to throw their own players under the bus. So do we. We do boo officials. So do they. We are getting under Gwoz's skin because he can't stop talking about us, nor can he stop doing antics when playing us. We are not angels, and we do have bad eggs. However, I wouldn't expect a coach (any coach) to come on the program and start bad talking their own fanbase. I would expect Gwoz to have nothing but positive things to say about DU's fans and the people of Colorado. I'd expect the same from Hakstol and UND fans and the people of ND. I will say this though: I doubt Lucia would take potshots at opposing fanbases. He has said some stupid things regarding opposing teams in the past, sure, but he has confined it primarily to the teams ON THE ICE. I dislike Minnesota sports in general (heh, especially pro sports), but I will say more in defense of Minnesota Gopher hockey than I ever will of UW hockey (they aren't classless, just boring as hell to watch) or DU hockey (Gwoz is the face of your program... can't act with class, then can't look classily at the program).

He is, but I do have a question: Is Gretzky still the GM? I don't know how I feel about him stepping down as Head Coach. I thought he wasn't very good at GMing.... I'm not sure what he could have done with a Phoenix team no one cares about... except maybe for AZSioux

Don't argue with him. There are some haters who hate for fun and just can't let it go. Finley will always suck to them. Lee will always be awful and will never see a single NHL game. Doesn't mean they are right. Just means they are fixated much like certain Gopher fans.
-
I find myself agreeing with Sic. I'd like Eades to be right, but I don't think he will. I just think that the SBoHE really wanted to be known for not being known nationally. The nickname has brought publicity to ND and it isn't all positive. If it isn't positive, they aren't interested. They're shallow skinned, spineless, blue blooded dyed in the wool liberals (and, yes, there is a difference between liberals and democrats) who just want everyone to like them and can't handle conflict. It's a crying shame.

Anyone who knows Jason Blake chime in and let me know if Kessel's personality is one that would clash with Blake's? It might make for good lockerroom entertainment.

Is it good that he practically invented a reason to fire Bob Knight to get rid of him? Sure, there were ample times prior to that where he could have fired him for just cause but... Hey, Indiana is much now, right? Anyways, Myles ran the NCAA with emotion...his emotions. He allowed his personal beliefs and those of his cronies to cloud the mission of the NCAA. I'm saddened by his death but not at all sorry to see him leave the NCAA. The NCAA leadership hasn't looked this good in a long time. Now get rid of Brand's cronies and the NCAA will be reborn. And, no, I don't want them gotten rid of via the pine box method. Retirement would be preferred.

Fleury was the #1 all of last season, I thought. He was injured briefly IIRC and things got dicey. I don't know why JPar went to the Pens camp for sure, but hey, if ya get the invite, then take it.

Can you play an up tempo game against Cornell?
-
I'm sure you mean Bruess. I don't like Buress nor Bruess. One's a gun toting ego maniac and the other is a hack on hockey skates.

Yes, I've read his blog. I enjoy it when he gets the MJ lovers' knickers in a twist by even suggesting that the MJ is a sham in even the most remotest of regards. I am aware that he is, somehow, both a fan of MSUM and of Michigan hockey. So he spins things a little bit "off." So what? It's easier to read when you know he isn't a Sioux fan. Then you can see the positives even when he hides them. Case in point: the Frattin fiasco. Normally, he'd be all over that and flaming away. When Frattin was dismissed from the team, he merely stated the facts and moved on. That, despite what you may want to believe, is positive UND press. Sure, if this happened in Mankato and Jutting did the same thing, he'd be crowing and calling MSUM the finest of upstanding disciplinary hockey programs, but nevertheless... Hey, it's not like we've been all that cordial to Mavs and their fans on this board either. Big A - I admit I was a bit too over the top in that comparison. Perhaps at one time all things Minnesota was hated, but over time and during certain coaches' tenures, different UMN programs went down the toilet (I'd like to see a Minny fan defend Glen Mason or whoever the idiot/idiots were that preceded Tubby Smith) and they became laughing stocks (especially basketball). I guess each sport has its own microcasm. I dislike nearly every team ESPN promotes... like Duke/UNC in basketball, USC, OU, UT, Miami, FSU in football, Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies (to an extent) in baseball, LA, Boston, San Antonio, and Dallas in NBA... and so on. I've even taking a disliking to PLAYERS ESPN adores like the almost daily fellating of Albert Pujols. So.. yeah. That and I'm extremely frustrated and jaded by the Chicago Cubs.
