I don't feel it is bush league when the league in question doesn't see it the same way. It would be amusing to me to see it so rampant in the WCHA that yet ANOTHER NCAA crackdown is written this offseason based upon the WCHA.

I say the following: 1. Dive when you can. 2. Don't turn your back to any player when near the boards 3. Keep your head up. 4. Expect a lot of special teams play so Special teamers conserve energy. 5. Eidsness (or Dell) come ready to take a lot of shots 6. Play with your head on a swivel. Unsafe ice with Adam on the ice. We don't need any more injuries. 7. Revenge isn't the name of the game. Injuring any SCSU player won't solve anything. Don't go after Lasch. In fact, don't go after Marvin (sorry, jloos, he'll play tonight and be suspended after the game for 1 game if at all). It was a slow whistle goal, but it was the right call in the end. Eidsness didn't have the puck.

My hunch says expect Fienhage. I'd probably have the pairings be: Blood-Gleason LaPoint-Marto MacWilliam-Fienhage Ok, I don't like two big guys together like I have and it would make sense to split Marto and LaPoint to cover the spread but... those two have such a good chemistry thing going that I think that needs to be held together at all costs. I also don't see Gleason as ready yet for the first pairing, but I don't see MacWilliam or Fienhage as better candidates either. Blood belongs out there. Next to Genoway, he's been overall our best D on the ice (which is saying something considering that all our D have played very very well thus far).

You assume the league will step in and suspend Marvin. Brad Schlossman doesn't think so. Historically, there's not much to go on. Paukovich was suspended by the league, but Genoway isn't in the hospital with a broken neck. But you're right otherwise. UND will come out physical tonight and pissed off. Don Adam who, before allowing Paukovich's hit, was known (according to Greene) to "give advice" and "teach lessons" to certain overly physical players when making penalty calls, will be holding school in the Don Adam Wishywashy School of unsafe and poor officiating clinic. I'd expect Hextall, Mario, Zajac, Malone, and perhaps MacWilliam to spend ample time in the box tonight. Heck, we saw that last night. Hextall got a double minor for a minor penalty. Malone got 2 for roughing for getting cross checked after the whistle. There will be make up calls, sure, but now... WOW... Roe is going to have an epic night with diving being allowed. Expect it.

I wonder.... if NY and BOS were eliminated in sports entirely, would the US still be looked at as being so arrogant in that field? Almost 80% of all sports arrogance (across the board) and hype comes from that neck of the woods. The other 20% is LeBron (temporarily until he signs with NY) and Kobe and the rest of the US Sporting world.

Yep. Looks like Hepp had Genoway all taken care of. Marvin even had to go AROUND Hepp to hit Genoway. What more does the league need to see in order to make the attempt to injure call? And from the way Genoway acted when he tried to get to his feet, it reminded me of Jonny Toews after the Willie Mitchell hit. Armchair diagnosis is concussion. Genoway is out tonight... probably out for DU as well.

Goon, Though I agree, I will say this: The students (as an entity) have more to lose than the general public. There is no stipulation that requires students to get lower bowl seats in any arena in college hockey. There is an expectation that there is a student section, but REA and UND could have easily put the students off in the corner of the upper deck somewhere and complied with the expectation as worded. The worst thing that could happen to the general public is that a season ticket holder loses his/her seat. They're not going to take that section away from the general public no matter what. With that hanging over my head, I'd be a lot quieter too. This code is meant for all attendees, not just students. It's not meant to attack students either, but they are BY FAR the most vulnerable entity in the arena to the snitch lines. And for the most part deservedly so. 90% of the obscenity comes from there. HOWEVER, my fear is that the snitches will be tallied and used to pass a judgment on an entity, not on individuals. I'd much rather ban a student for the rest of the season than use that student's behavior to ban groups of students or remove them from their section. REA is losing a ton of money having the students in the lower bowl. The REA is a business. UND is the school. If REA can make more money, especially if the people affected are judged to be disruptive and in violation of policy, would you turn down the opportunity to make more money even if it is at the expense of the students and whatever PR hit that would incur?

First off, I still don't think Don Adam made the call. I think it was Walsh, that's why it took so long. That's why they got the wrong player. Walsh wasn't in position to make the call but knew that the hit was illegal. But Walsh is junior to Adam, so he held his arm down because Adam was there. After the play, when Adam DID call Hextall for the double minor, Walsh stepped in and convinced Adam to call the hit on Genoway as illegal and erred with the player number. Second, Greg Shepherd was in attendence, but that's going to be no help. He loves the "I wanna be the good guy because being the bad guy could get me fired." approach (otherwise known as eunich administration). Brad brought it up on his blog, and he's right. SCSU will be put to suspending Marvin, if they do. Greg won't. So, since they enjoy this approach, I think Motzko takes a page out of Gwoz's book and simply sits Marvin down and has a"long talk" with him. Maybe he'll send an apology and a get well card to Genoway. No suspension and Greg (and the league) will buy it. If/When this does happen, I'm not going to point fingers at Motzko. Nope. This is an example of off-ice rule manipulation, much like Roe and diving is on-ice. You can't blame a coach for not wanting to shorten his bench when there's a "perfectly legal" way to get around the rules and not be held accountable for it by the league. If Marvin was a Sioux, I'd not be surprised if Hakstol did the same thing. I'd like to think (much like most fans of other teams) that their program would be moral and ethical enough to do the right thing and not stand for such behavior, but there is no incentive to do so. McLeod and Shepherd are such poor administrators that they are afraid of pissing off certain head coaches in the WCHA because it could lead to their (warranted) dismissal. If that hit were in the NHL's domain, Marvin's suspension would have hit the press before the Saturday paper was printed. Third, who says no fight? I'd sit Knight for this game and put Davidson in the lineup. Marvin is about 6'3" tall. I say Davidson goes after Marvin in the 3rd period and coaxes him into dropping the gloves. The players I'd expect to drop the gloves (Zajac, Malone, Hextall, maybe MacWilliam, and perhaps Mario) can't be missing DU. I think Bruneteau could step in nicely, but I just don't think the tradeoff is good enough to take yet.
-
Agreed. That's why I say... NEIGH!
-
And Goon still will tune in to watch Bruin hockey? Hopefully on mute.
-
Ah, but if you do, it will be the play of the game! I don't know who was calling that game but I don't care if I ever listen to them again. By the way, I heard Jack Edwards is now the commentator for the Boston Bruins. Is that true? If so, it couldn't be a better fit. That guy is the world's biggest Boston homer. You show Jack a picture of any Boston sports team, logo, or sports player and he'll just about cream his shorts. It's hilarious how they say that job is an "elite few" when so many are completely and utterly incompetent.

Greggiepoopoo was in attendence tonight. He got to see Don "Injure 'em if you don't like 'em" Adam officiate. Folks, from what I could tell, the reason why Hepp was called erroneously was because whoever was opposite Don Adam made the call, despite Don Adam being the official that was closest to the play and in better position. I could be wrong. jloos will hopefully correct me if I am. Marvin should be suspended for at least the duration of this series, if not the next. I wish Genoway the speediest of recoveries. I would not be surprised at all if the injury is a concussion. And NO, I have no inside information. This is PURE speculation on my part. Seriously...we recruited Marvin? Really? Surprised he chose SCSU over us. He should have gone to...say...MSUM or MTU or maybe DU.

As I said in the game thread, 90% of the code isn't really new and nothing really to get bent out of shape about. The one part that is potentially damaging is the statement made about fans enjoy the right to come to the game and enjoy themselves... well, that's the common sense rephrasing of it... it wasnt' worded that way though. The problem lies with the interpretation of that rule. If someone doesn't like the rowdy students sitting next to them, even if they aren't cussing or throwing things, can complain and get people removed from the arena because they don't enjoy the loudness of the section next to them. Ok, I used students, but it really doesn't matter which group they belong to. It's in style now to make rules that can be used against the students more than those that protect all. 80% of the noise at the REA comes from the student section, obscene or otherwise. There is a TON of potential for abuse of this code.

I guess it makes sense. I thought, for some reason, that it was neutral announcers since it was on NHL network. Stupid reasoning.
-
Ok, I amend my prediction down to a minimum of one dive... in the first period of Saturday's game. All the other scenarios are still valid.

Watched the last half of the game. The commentators nearly cried when Crosby didn't score. "He does everything right but score." Wow. I do everything right on the ice except skate. The Penguins looked lazy, tired, and unengaged in the play. The media was, when they weren't fawning over Sidney Christ, giving every sort of excuse known to man. Maybe they do the same thing with Detroit, well... I'm pretty sure they do. Nevertheless, it disgusts me. The better team tonight won. Sucks to be the commentators but they needed to seriously put their big boy pants on and admit that the Devils simply were better. Oh, and by the way, the play of the game as Fedetenko pushing the puck and Brodeur into the net for the Pens' only goal. Jumping Parise.... Really? Fleury's save was amazing. If you had to give it to your beloved Pens, why not have that the play of the game? Seriously, the Devils won, but you'd never have known it by listening to the sports commentators. I think I'm going to refrain from tuning into Pens games from now on. I'd rather have a relatively unbiasedly called game.

That's a very hard question to answer because it all depends upon the temperment of the officials at the game. It will be AT LEAST twice this weekend. One per game to test the officials' reactions to his dive. If he gets called for diving (despite the stunned silence that will overcome the diehards as they'll all have thought A) they've drank too much alcohol/taken some sort of hallucinogenic substance or B) they've accidentally stumbled into a UNO vs MSU game instead of SCSU vs. UND and have CCHA officials instead of WCHA officials), he will not dive until the next game to see if the officials are still going to call it. If he dives and there is no call, he'll try again until there is a call. If the call is diving, see above. If UND goes to the box, you'll see it a lot until Roe goes to the box for diving. So, I'm forced to give a range. I'm going to say no less than 2 and no more than 8. And NO, as I stated before, this has nothing to do with Roe himself. I do not believe he is a hack or cheap. I believe he's like every other high stakes person be it in sports or business. He wants to win or get ahead. If there is no punishment for what normally would be considered against the rules, there is no incentive NOT to take advantage of it. Roe knows this. Frankly, with the current state of officiating in the WCHA, it surprises me that there is so few players in the WCHA that dive.

I dislike the Avs too, but it's remarkable what they've done with pretty much the only addition to the roster being Anderson. I do wish, though, that the Avs would go get Aebsicher again and dump Anderson. I'd love to have #1 and #2 sieves in Av jerseys. For the record, Huet has actually not played poorly... or maybe the Hawks figured out that the only way to win is to limit the number of shots on goal that Huet has to face.

As I see it, tnt is right on. There's NO WAY we continue at this clip. No way. We'll hit a slump. I think some of our freshmen will look like freshmen. Maybe Gleason will hit a snag. Maybe something will go awry with another defenseman. Or maybe Hakstol will simply find a reason to rest a player and play Fienhage. Or Fienhage could bolt like Lofquist. It will be an interesting ride. I just hope we're not going to fade at all. Take splits when we need to and sweep everyone we should and we'll be just fine.

Could they sing Kumbaya without offending anyone's religious beliefs?

The Roe diving thing will be decided early on Friday. If Roe gets hit and dives and it results in a penalty, he'll do it ALL weekend long. Who would blame him? There is no in-game reward for ethical behavior outside of staying out of the box. Diving is a rule that isn't called (unless there is an offsetting minor) in the WCHA. So why not dive? Chris Porter figured that out. Robbie Earl made it an artform. Garrett Roe is just another example. I don't believe (other than Earl) that diving is something that players prepare for and go out with every intention to perform. I DO believe that the players are smart enough and quick enough to figure out what the refs are and are not going to call and how to manipulate that to his (and his team's) advantage. A competent officiating crew that calls the rule book and isn't afraid to call diving would produce different results. I'm positive Roe and Porter (while with UND) would never dive if they knew that they'd get called for it. The WCHA officiating system is broken. Use it to your advantage or it will be used against you for sure. UND WILL (guaranteed) spend time in the box due to Roe's diving this weekend. Count on it. As for Lee... He's a freshman. He'll come around.

COMMITED SIOUX RECRUITS - 2009-10 Updates, Stats and News
redwing77 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I think the "real" story in that game is the Calgary goaltender. I mean... he has to go through life with the name "Dusty Nickel" -
Ok, this I've heard before but you substitute goat for wife. And I've heard it using screw and the f bomb too.... though the f bomb version I only heard at the Old Ralph.

Which is the new strategy of the anti-nicknamers. They look good if they keep pushing other issues and pushing aside the nickname issue. The pro-nicknamers look bad because they want a resolution to an issue that could be as open and shut as a basic election. Thus, the anti-nicknamers are no longer technically fighting the name politically. They still are public relations wise, sure, but now they're just employing stall tactics until finally we run out of extensions and that's it. Heck, it could get RHHiT and his cronies back into power in future elections if he does do this successfully.

First off, making a bowl game isn't an accomplishment when what.. 1 MAYBE 2 of the Big 10 cannot make one every year? Heck, even Mason made bowl appearances for the Gophers and he was awful. Seriously, yeah, I'm a playoff kindof guy but that will never happen. Since that is the case, the NCAA should decrease the number of bowl games to the point where they actually..just maybe... MEAN SOMETHING. If you want to have a lot of bowl games, just decrease the bowl games to the BCS ones and then make the conference finals a bowl game. Yeah, some (maybe most) of the BCS bowl bound teams will play in two bowl games, but who the hell cares. Beats watching Minnesota vs. Hawaii. Heh... make fun of the Gophers but I DEFY you to say GO RAINBOW WARRIORS with a straight face. Second, I've never heard of that chant, Siouxmama. But I have heard the "HEY REF, GET OFF YER KNEES YOU'RE..." etc.
