  1. Fienhage is progressing right along with what I've been saying... with a big defenseman like he is, practice will only improve him so far. Every game he plays, he'll improve. He'll still make a few stupid mistakes here and there, but the same thing happened with Smaby, Greene, Commodore, and so on. I'm not saying Fienhage will be the best dman on the roster by the end of his career at UND, but he certainly won't be any good if he's just a practice guy or injury backup either.
  2. I think Lemaire with the Devils proves I'm wrong about him when he was with the Wild. Again, Lemaire has exonerated himself. It's Risebrough who was the problem.
  3. That's why, in my armchair coach's position, I would institute the rule of 3. Every third touch in the offensive zone must be shot on net. Example: Blood outlet passes to Vandevelde (1) who carries it into the zone and passes it to Gregoire (2) who passes across to Kristo (3). Kristo would then HAVE to make an attempt to get the puck on net. We could shoot at any time previous to the 3rd pass if they wish. I just think that we can live without endless passing and cycling. It helps the other team too much. Sure, a good cycle is basic to a good scoring chance in this system, but too much cycle doesn't accomplish anything. A nice theory but why would B-Shep leave the WCHA when he's got the ultimate safety net? Do you honestly think Daddy dearest would do anything to him? As for Beaurline, maybe this is moreso. He's new to the official ranks (I believe he was an AR for a long while) so he'll be corrupted soon enough. You're sorry I missed it? I'm sorry I missed it! I was pissed. And Fetch- You're right, 2/3rds of the game was boring.
  4. Closer? Does choking in the final period of the NC game mean anything more than losing in the NC game? I still believe a loss is a loss. I watched Miami play BSU yesterday. BSU is by no means a flashy team, but Miami didn't impress me at all either. Carter Camper was very good but Miele was easy to remove off the puck, Wingels was nonexistant, and Reichard was ok but not great. I thought Will Weber was supposed to be a pretty good D and he did alright, but I'll take Blood or LaPoint over him.
  5. I describe Miami as thus: SCSU that's won a few NCAA tourney games. They can be potentially dangerous, they think very highly of themselves, and they've proved nothing yet.
  6. Ok, things are different for me when I see the game live. So, not too many comments because the angle isn't as good from my seat as it is when you are seeing a well camera'd game in several cases. 1. I didn't see Zajac or Malone's goals. Both times I was screened by an idiot who couldn't wait until after the puck was frozen to move. 2. I hope UND doesn't play like they did in the first period tonight. Miami would stomp us. 3. I've not seen more whiffs on wide open nets than I saw OSU and Miami whiff on yesterday. 4. Fienhage's pass to Zajac (upon replay review) was beautiful. 5. I think we could have scored more if we had players who one timed it more. We seemed to get great set ups but couldn't shoot the puck right away. 6. I'm starting to see both sides of the argument on Kristo. Great talent, needs to share a bit more. On the other hand, the more we pass, the more likely the puck will leave the zone. It will eventually hop over a stick or get intercepted. 7. Powerplay still really isn't there. Great start of the year on the powerplay, but it's faded fast. 8. Hey, guess what! CJ Beaurline and B-Shep actually reffed a good game! 9. Eidsness was good but not great. 10. The game looked a lot closer live than it did on the scoreboard.
  7. I'm going to be at the game! YAY! 307 Row F! Swing on by! Try not to scare off my buddy and his son, k? Then again... he is an ex-Marine and 6'3" 250... I'm covered I think.
  8. I find it interesting to see that only three on the list didn't go to college and.... all of the collegiate players played in the WCHA.
  9. Sure, but it was the same scenario. In the previous game that Vancouver played against... who was it? Colorado? Moore made a huge hit on Naslund (it was a clean hit but it looked brutal). Bertuzzi went after Moore the next time they played. I admit what Bertuzzi did isn't exactly the same as dropping the gloves... ok, it's not the same at all, but the scenario is similar. Fighting to put a boost in the team's motivation is one thing. Fighting to seek revenge is another.
  10. Then it's not a tourney. It's a... I don't know. series of nonconference single game sets.
  11. Heh. I'd love to see BSU upset Miami and play us. Then tOSU beats Miami to give the their first two game defeat of the year.
  12. I hope not. It's a stupid practice that have done nothing but cheapen the game. Remember, if it weren't for this practice, Bertuzzi would have been just another hockey player.
  13. I heard they were destined to go to the Lysol Toilet Bowl in Gary, Indiana?
  14. You mean: 1. Interference is a penalty 2. Diving can be called without an offsetting penalty 3. NCAA crackdowns not already listed are to be followed Those refs? Heh, I'm not naive enough to say that CCHA officials are all saints and all, because I know that's not true, but it would be nice to have officials blow calls due to human error rather than to situational officiating, emotion, preconcieved bias, institution-enforced parity, educational messaging, and just not knowing the rules. Not a chance. I like our odds. Miami has done well this year, but Miami and UND play a similar style of game. The CCHA is down this year. MSU may be a surprise but Notre Dame and Michigan have taken steps backwards (Notre Dame will recover... but Michigan.. crap, they've stepped backwards off a cliff). I LOVE our defense. They aren't as physical as the previous dominant units UND has had, but they are really good at getting in lanes, cutting off angles, and simply playing in our own zone. We played an entire period short handed yesterday and DU was only able to drop 3 on us. THAT is amazing! Trust me. How many other teams could spend that much time killing penalties against a top 3 team in DI and do better? Yeah, it sucked they got three on us, but it could have been worse. I think we just refocus and move on. And heck, if we were going to fall apart discipline wise, this past weekend was the time to do it. Better early than late. Better against a quality opponent than a bottom tier team like.... Robert Morris or heaven forbid UAH or whatever.
  15. Not sure, but he didn't transition at UND. He was listed on Heisenberg's Recruiting list as a center/defenseman coming out of juniors. As for the transition from Forward to D, that is indeed tough. I think, if we are truly worried about it, perhaps we should look at defensive minded players to make the transition. Perhaps players such as Rowney, Davidson, or in desperate times Zajac. It's easier to look at our D and move the opposite way. Marto, in my opinion, would be the best D (other than Chay) to transition from D to forward... but I don't see that happening.
  16. I thought it is amusing that hockey is too vulgar yet colleges everywhere try desperately hard to make money selling prime tailgating spots where people are encouraged to do things like drink alcohol, eat, and get rowdy. Hockey doesn't go that way (though I think it'd be neat to do such a thing as more of a social gathering among fans of both sides pre and perhaps post game). Is DI college basketball that way? They're somewhat comparable in terms of pre and post game activity around the arena as well as student sections I think.
  17. Not related to UND or even college hockey, but... The Red Wings just got Don Adam'd. Red Wing Brad May (yeah, not the best player in the world but still...) shoots a backhand that CLEARLY goes in the net. However, the official LaRue, calls it NO GOAL because he intended to blow the whistle or the whistle blew the play dead even though the replay clearly shows the whistle being blown long after the puck ended up in the net. No review. Greg Shepherd just took notice. I think LaRue will end up an official in the WCHA once the NHL gets tired of him.
  18. Hey.. Is this Gwoz in the 70s?
  19. My library is so low on funds that we can't even afford the $100 to purchase shelf labels so the kids can find books easier. I also have about $5,000 of books that need replacing but I can't purchase. Oh Johnny! (and, yes, I'm dead serious about those numbers even though I'm not going to go pan handling Johnny for money)
  20. agreed. Sioux on Friday and DU on Saturday. Eidsness plays both nights. Nothing against Dell. Face it... If we can't score more than 2 goals (disallowed notwithstanding), we're not going to win many games regardless of who is in net.
  21. I'm a librarian by trade and I cannot endorse this stereotypical application of my trade.
  22. Vaht? With Marvin out, I think UND still comes out pissed and physical, but I'm doubting there will be a fight now, even if DU wasn't the next opponent. And, if UND wins tonight, UND will wear the dreaded #1 ranking. Miami lost last night. Everyone stumbles. FSU is to Miami as uAA was to us. I'm fairly certain they'll win tonight. I'm nervous every Saturday because this team seems to be more a Friday night team rather than Saturday. Say what you will about last night's performance, but UND has been FAR more mortal on Saturdays. I'm worried about Chay's condition. I hope he's ok. I'm not, however, worried about the D Corps. We've been pretty solid. That being said, Fienhage is coming in for Genoway. So, inevitably, comparisons will be made. Fienhage will lose, I assure you. It's too bad. Genoway is older, more experienced, and plays a different game compared to Fienhage. But Fienhage was drafted. So, it won't matter to some. Sad. Nevertheless, I have faith in Hak and Crew. I have faith that Fienhage will play well overall, despite being rusty. We can win this game if we play solid fundamentally and stay out of the box. Remember, SCSU has scored half their goals on the powerplay.

    Genoway

Looking at the rule book, the AR designation was a semantic change rather than any sort of promotion. The AR position gives them the authority to call Too Many Men penalties and make recommendations to the officials regarding penalties. This might be what happened last night. I still maintain it was Walsh who made the call.

    Genoway

Actually, yes they can. They're the main callers of Too many men penalties and can call penalties in certain circumstances. They're typically discouraged from doing so. I've witnessed penalties like interference and roughing being called on Greene by ARs. Its rare, but it happens.
