A few things: 1. I'm going to Washington DC tommorrow so I won't be in town 2. I live in Fargo and it isn't easy for me to get up to Grand Forks anymore 3. Cost and permissions necessary to distribute 4. THe likelihood that these letters will end up like so many other leaflets placed in the cup holders in the student section: on the ice. 5. As pessimistic as this sounds: Will anyone a: read it and b: follow the instructions? I'm NOT opposed to this, I'm just not the right guy to spearhead it. I would, though, if I were still in GF. If anyone is there and willing to do it even if it is Grassroots, it would be much appreciated.

Paukovich will be the Brian Lee of last year. Riding the pine the majority I'm sure. If alternates haven't been named, I'd name Geoff as an alternate. Like I said in the last thread, there are always head scratchers. DU benefitted this year like we did last year. And sagard- Team Canada's bias against NCAA players is alive and well, but age is what will keep Toews off the list. The hype and draft projections (and a good tryout camp performance) got him to the final tryouts. He won't make the team. Yeah, I'm negative. But hey. 2006 and 2007 WJC Team Canada teams will feature Toews.

For this series, it will be easy to get any TV turned at any sports bar. I've seen fans at BWW, Tailgaters, and Peppers to name a few. I frequent Peppers when I'm in town ()

Surprise picks seem to be the norm with Team USA. Last year it was Brian Lee over Jack Johnson. This year it is Geoff Paukovich over Adam Pineault. What makes this more surprising is that Geoff beat out a WJC veteran. Usually, unless that vet is too old or just flat out does poorly in the previous WJC PLUS the tryouts, the vet is invited to be back in. As for Chris Butler... this one is anyone's guess. As for the Sioux in all of this... Harvard MIGHT have a real good chance at some points against us But yeah. Chris Butler is a question mark and Paukovich doesn't embody the image that Team USA represents. Oh well. I'll still root for Team USA. Anyone know which ones are alternates or is this the entire team and the alternates have yet to be named?

From what I gathered it isn't talent that will keep Toews off the team. It's that there are enough returnees and qualified older players ahead of Toews that will keep him off the team. It's an age thing. And I agree with siouxnami about Jones. I think, if he is drafted, the highest he could possibly be taken is the 6th round.
-
Could we doctor Brian Elliott's birth certificate and DOB info to get him in?
-
How would a projected 5th round pick for 2005 go in the first round in 2006? No, if Zach gets drafted at all, it will be in the later rounds 6th or later. I have nothing against Zach nor would I be opposed if he DID go in the first round, but this is HIGHLY unlikely. Out of curiosity, which players do you base this projection upon?

Yeah, but our conference records are pretty close to 500.

It was a remarkable weekend. 2 Sioux hatties (one unusual in Stafford's). In minor news, SCSU's Konrad Reeder had a natural hatty. I don't like SCSU but natural hatties are a rare thing.

I say the only given is Lee. Chorney and Oshie are "very likely" Jones and Toews at best have a chance at being named alternates. Toews could very well not make the team this year due to his age and the long list of players ahead of him (they might take Chucko over Toews! ) As for Jones and the draft... I'm not sure if he'll be taken in the 2006 draft. He was already passed over in the 2005 draft.

Yeah, I know. I'll be avoiding the Sioux Name thread for a few weeks starting Friday. I just have a very bad feeling about this.

I'll defend Finley any day Why? He reminds me of Smaby when he was a freshman. He got burned quite a few times, but Finley hasn't nearly gotten penalized as much as Smaby did as a freshman. I'm not sure if Finley will be quite as good as Smaby but I think he definitely has potential. OH! Here's the point stats for this weekend: Drew Stafford: 3g 3a 6pts Rastislav Spirko: 3g 0a 3pts Andrew Kozek: 3g 0a 3pts Travis Zajac: 1g 2a 3pts TJ Oshie: 1g 1a 2pts Chris Porter: 0g 2a 2pts Kyle Radke: 0g 2a 2pts Zach Jones: 0g 2a 2pts Taylor Chorney: 0g 2a 2pts Jonathan Toews: 1g 0a 1pt Matt Smaby: 1g 0a 1pt Matt Watkins: 1g 0a 1pt Ryan Duncan: 0g 1a 1pt Rylan Kaip: 0g 1a 1pt Team Totals: 14g 16a 30pts If Drew Stafford doesn't get honors this week I'll be flabbergasted. My prediction: Drew Stafford Offensive POTW Brian Elliott Defensive POTW Andrew Kozek and Mayson Raymond co-Rookie POTW (Seriously, they have 3 pts on the weekend each)

The red truck is hostile and abusive because it symbolizes on how you drive over the plight of the NA people, their lands, and their culture. You should be ashamed of yourself. However, would you care to buy these nice name-brand merchandise to help me pay the mortgage on my house?

I know this is mentioned in the Sioux Name part of this message board but it is worth mentioning here as well: At the Minnesota series, members from some of the Sioux tribes will be present in the box Kupchella normally sits at when he views the game (Quite possibly the one behind the student section). Kupchella has arranged this, as I read on the Sioux Name thread, to show the Sioux tribal members how we behave "in the harshest of sport situations." I don't care to speculate as to what that is supposed to mean, but I will say this: As much as the Gophers deserve jeering, disrespect, and all, I think it would be wise to curb the F bombs and take a little off of the edginess to the student section this weekend in the interest of keeping the Name. I have no suggestions to replace all the "F the Gophers" chants or what could be done to remedy this, even if it is only the short term, but you have to realize that these Sioux tribal leaders already have voiced their one sided opinions against the name and are expecting us to justify their position. Not to mention the possibility that the media who will undoubtedly be covering this facet of the series will be looking for negative press as well. Negative news increases viewership/readership. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T GIVE OUR OPPONENTS MORE WEAPONS!!!!!
-
First off: Who is injured for the Gophers to make them crippled? According to PCM's Hak recap, Smaby isn't at 100 percent. Are any other Sioux players dinged up? Lastly: As much of a fan of the Sioux I am, I'd be really happy with a split.

The only certainty that is going to be with this series is, from today until a week after the series ends regardless of outcome, the number of Skippy alerts is going to rise. It always does around the Gopher series.

I agree that the UND nickname is a community issue and one that is important to the community. We aren't going to be buying the nickname if Turtle Mountain comes into GF with a casino. They are Chippewa not Sioux. Being that it is Turtle Mountain, it can be an economic issue. I don't see how an organization can be dealt with in good faith when they turn around and call a major piece of the local community they are trying to get into economically hostile and abusive. Therefore, if it is a Sioux tribe wishing to bring a casino into GF, I'd vote no. I'd liken it to a guy coming to my door and saying "Your home is ugly because that red reminds me of the oppression of your hispanic neighbors and your brothers and sisters are idiots, but hey, would you like to buy some of my star spangled widgets to help support my family?" No. Not at all. No way.

**** HOT!!!! Way to go Brandon! Turn it on and keep it going!!!!! EDIT: No offense Goon, but as a Cubs fan who's totally jaded with the Cubs front office, I can look at the Bruins and say "At least the Cubs don't have the Bruins' GM"
-
Schwartz. Jon not Brandon. MTU wasn't playing good all game long, but it sounded (I couldn't get the webcast to work ) like in the third period they were starting to play awfully cheap. Anyways, some good D tonight. I hate Chris Conner and we need to do it again tommorrow night.

Carthage College and Midwestern State capitulate
redwing77 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Yes. The Fighting Sioux nickname causes alcoholism, low graduation rate, diabetes, disease, poverty, and the bending of the Native Americans under the heel of the "White Man." Changing the nickname will prove that because the day after we change the name, all of it will change. Sorry mako, solve your own problems before you start telling us who we can and cannot honor. -
If Central finishes 1-7 or any other place other than 8th, will you not post here again? It really doesn't matter. My alma mater isn't going to choke in hockey like they did in football.... well... maybe they will. With Fargo South, what they look like on paper means nothing.
-
As silly as this sounds: Which tribe is wanting to do it? If it is a Sioux tribe... Tell them to wait until the nickname issue is resolved before making a final decision... The "subtle" hint will be taken and the matter will either go away or UND could find itself having an ally. If it is Turtle Mountain, perhaps we can sit down with them and do some wheelin' and dealin' in regards to certain things that have been found to be important to GF residents (not just the nickname change possibility). But yeah, Kudos to the GF Residents for saying no so far.
-
Trust me, unfortunately... Until they: 1. Gain tradition... you know, a prolonged existance type thing... 2. Allow the girls to check There won't be a problem getting tickets to the women's series... even if it is UND vs the USA Women's Olympic Hockey team.

No doubt. I don't recall anyone claiming Toews as the "best two way player in the country." Sure, we've said he's a better two way player than Kessel, but Kessel is hardly the country..... But yeah... think what you want TC... you're yet to say anything that is really worth agreeing to.

I agree. It seems odd to me that so many posters here have so much problems with Dataflix to have it be considered a reasonable service. 90 percent success is one thing, but when it is consistently failing for many, if not most, of its users? No. Dataflix is a horrid waste of money. And since there has been no appreciable increase in quality and reliability since its release, I can say that it is also mismanaged. Dataflix is a horrible waste of money. I'll listen to it on the radio, watch it on tv, or tune in here before I'll even consider Dataflix.
