Belmore has looked bad against UNO, MSUM, and didn't look too good against UMD until the very end. I think he's needed that for a while. And, now that we're not undefeated, I think we can finally get back to just winning games, not setting records.
-
Well, Belmore hasn't played well the past three weeks and for those weeks the defense bailed him out. It had to end sometime. Now, does this make the USD game a must win?

mikejm- Nice recap. I agree with everything but Watkins being invisible. He wasn't that visible most of the game, true, but he did get robbed late in the game by a super pad save by Fisher.

Severe leg laceration above the ankle. Puck Swami on USCHO said that it isn't season ending but he'll be gone for a while. The player was Freshman Brock Trotter, a forward from Brandon, Manitoba. Oh, to make matters worse: This happened in front of his parents, who came to the Ralph to watch their son play.

Here is his Hockeydb Profile.

Zelkin actually is a HEA official first, WCHA official second, from what I understand. It was like that last season too.

The game was good, but sloppy. We got to play physical which really suited us fine. However we took a TON of stupid penalties and we played, well, poorly on most of our power play opportunities. Way to squander 2 5 minute majors. 1 of the majors was a gift IMO. Lee got away with a checking from behind call early in the first. God CSTV sucks. Those pieholes were the biggest DU homers all night long. Chris Butler "the goal scorer" was amazing. Did you know that DU was down 4 men at one point? In case you forgot, they mentioned it 400 times on CSTV. It reminded me of the Pat Sweeney or TH broadcast from CC where they were on olympic ice and having technical difficulties with the CC video feed. All night long 1500 references to the difficulties and the olympic ice. Though, to be fair, the CC game's announcements happened every 30 seconds or so, whereas the DU is down 4 players announcement came maybe every 2 minutes or so. We split tonight. One of our squads lost to Wisconsin 3-2 and the other won 3-1 against DU. Ok, really, CSTV had a freshman intern do the screen and telepromter work. He is starting off slow, but by Christmas... Shepherd officiates which means he missed maybe 10 interference calls against both sides. One call, which Oshie drew in the first period, would have put us up 2 men. Oh well. JPar gets the dunce cap of the game for his interference penalty. With the too many men penalty, at least there is a miscommunication excuse. I don't think there is an excuse for JPar's penalty. Running the goaltender. It was Cook today. Thought it would be Paukovitch. You can imagine my surprise. But yeah, you can't be JPar but maybe you can injure him and then get goals? I dunno.

Again, from my perspective, I'll point out it isn't WHO wrote the story (AP or beat writer whatever) it is WHERE the story is placed. And also, I stated that the only time UND does make the front page is when something big happens like the nickname thing or if we won a national championship in hockey or football and maybe basketball. DI is another issue that merits that attention because, if UND goes DIAA, it would rekindle the NDSU-UND rivalry.

I agree with jk on this one. There isn't much for him to say other than this. It all comes down to interpretation. The thing I see that interested me was that he'd only "settle it" if we did something first. I don't know why, but that makes me feel better. After all, last season, Pauko spent the early half yapping and taunting and the second half injuring our players. It is hard to say he initiated the yapping, but there was no cheap hit to precede the Bina hit. I don't care really what he has to say in truth. All I care about is beating the Pios at the Ralph. What Pauko does is his business and I pray Hak has enough control over his players to allow Pauko to do all of the cheap stuff and leave the Sioux business on the scoreboard.
-
I dislike the Troll as much as anyone, but I agree. In fact, I'd be almost disappointed in the troops if they came out and immediately dropped the gloves the first time Paukovitch was on the ice. Let's beat them. We don't need to fight Paukovitch to prove ourselves. Big Joe Finley has enough to worry about rather than whether or not he's going to fight. And rest assured, if a fight DOES happen, it won't be "asked for" by any Sioux coach. After all, if Hak wanted to see a fight, then it would have happened later the same game as Bina was injured. It didn't happen and it won't happen this weekend either.

I'm not sure what the is supposed to represent in your post, but I agree. Hennan is a valuable asset because he has airtime and he has been a strong proponent of the nickname since we were initially put on the list back in August. In fact, across the nation, republicans it seems, have come out of the woodwork to support the 18 schools against the NCAA's dumb sanction. THere were rumors that "The Scream" Dean was of the mindset the NCAA is now in. There is many questions about whether or not the Dems would support UND or not and it took them a while to step forward. If this is truly a political issue, it seems to me we want the conservatives on our side.

Ok. Then I guess you have two options to watch tonight then.

I THOUGHT tonight's game was on CSTV? It is. 7:30pm on CSTV. Here is CSTV's key to the game tonight. IT's on CSTV tonight, FSSN tommorrow.

I like the Bina chant. And with the Bina chant we get across the same thing as the WHo's he bit and could get the entire crowd into the chant. Also, I think Robbie should drop the ceremonial first puck just to shove it in their faces.

Finley wasn't that much of a stretch when you look at the predraft numbers. Finley was projected to be an early second rounder that moved up to the late first round. Not that high. What I believe pundits meant when they said it was a stretch was that they probably felt Washington need to make a run at a "quick fix" draft pick. Meaning one that wasn't so much of a project and could probably make the jump to the NHL level 1 or 2 years after turning pro. Finley has been REALLY good and reliable for the most part, especially in his own end. He also can shoot the puck, but despite the shot being a pretty hard one, I wouldn't count on him as being offensively minded by any means. However, if you are a Caps fan, Finley is going to take some time to develop. If the Caps were wise, they'd allow Finley to play all four years at UND and then send him for a year at the AHL level before even thinking about having him suit up for the Caps. Hope that helps.

President Zais is wrong. They aren't upset about the use of mascots. They approved FSU's nickname and mascot.

First off, as I have stated before, racism is a term that is open to interpretation. That's where it is so disasterous. It doesn't matter what you, I, or any institution says or does, someone could dig deep enough or twist it enough to make it look racist. EVERYTHING is racist. White snow is neat. Black snow is dirty and ugly. Is that racist? If you look at the facts, no. No one likes eating dirty snow or playing in it. Would someone find it racist anyhow? You bet. Racism as a term is no longer what it was designed to mean. It is now something used by minorities every time that minority doesn't get its way. It's like being female and claiming a guy sexually harrassed you just because she didn't like a business decision he made. White privilege doesn't exist. Period. If it did, then the percentage of whites on welfare and medicaid would be 0. We'd all drive brand new cars, make 100 percent of the money in the US economy, and, as a rule, become ignorant of everyone else. Rosa Parks would have been thrown off the bus. No one would have made any care of Martin Luther King Jr. The Civil Rights movement would have just been one big riot put down by our lackies and historically moved on. Did that happen? Nope. Rosa Parks changed history. MLK Jr. openned a society's eyes. Civil Rights was not a riot, but a revolution. Sure, at one time white privilege may have existed, but certainly not since the early 1900s. Changing a nickname isn't opening a society's eyes. It does nothing for the Native American except whatever gratification they can reach for a minority of a minority winning a meaningless battle over a majority. What will they get out of this? Well, GK et al claimed they'd get their dignity back... How? They complain about the conditions on the reservation, alcoholism, drug use, the failure of education, and unemployment to name a few... how is the nickname going to change that? This isn't a world of entitlement. It is a world based on what you can do for yourself. Peers who've earned their place will always be looked upon with respect and listened to. People who expect to garner the same respect for whatever reason save earning it only become whiners and thorns in the side of society. Some Native Americans have earned the right to be respected and honored. Others feel that they deserve it because of some atrocity in the past. THese entitlists are pretenders in the area of respect.

It's hard to disagree with the coach so I'm going to say that I think that the caller was right about the crashing of the net for the most part. I wouldn't say that this is a "new" part of the Sioux game. However, it is definitely a more prominent part of the Sioux game than in years past. I can remember screaming both at the games and on this board to crash the net.
-
There's a striking similarity between Zajac last season and Oshie this season. They both crash the net regularly and are not afraid to mix it up right in front of the net. It's what I noticed anyways.

Thanks PCM. I'm concerned about DU's big three (Gauthier, Statsny, and Carle) but we'll see what comes out of the series. I wish someone would have asked Hak about Spirko or perhaps team health condition... I'd really like to know how much longer we have to be without Sparky.

Rico- If the tickets are still available, I'll take them. We'll have to meet though before the game as I live in Fargo.
