Does Berry and Hak have any eligibility left? If so, suit'em up!

Lamouriello used to be a college head coach, but still.... And, even if Robinson and Burns are good head coaches, I'd much rather have a guy that can mold an offense and a defense instead of just an offense or just a defense. That's why I loved Bowman so much. He seemed to get the most out of his players on both sides of the rink. Well... it seemed that way anyways. As for me, I like the Devils because of what they do with their draft picks. It's also one of my biggest criticisms about the Red Wings. The NCAA barely exists to Detroit's scouts. Sure, they get a player every now and then, but if it isn't Swedish or at least European, chances are they are not going to be very high on him in the Detroit system. Jimmy Howard seems to be the exception to the rule, but we'll see about that. Detroit has the same problem the Rangers had in that they would rather use their minor leagues for substitute players and trade fodder rather than developing their stars in house. Sure, they've had a few players come through, just like the Yankees of the Major Leagues, but when push comes to shove, they have no faith in their own scouting and just sign some old fart that used to be good. Like I said before, Detroit and NYR are on one side of the spectrum (to hell with the minors sign free agents) and the Wild are on the other spectrum (To hell with free agents, if we can't get them cheap or in house, screw the playoffs) with the Devils more to the Wild's side of the center than the Red Wings. Does that make any sense? Wild <------------(Devils)---------------*(Middle ground)------------------------------------>Red Wings

I'm glad you are confident. Our best young talent is gone for this series (with the exception of Duncan and Zajac) and Harvard loses no one. I like Watkins and Kozek but they haven't gotten into the swing of things so far to become consistant scoring threats. Harvard isn't a slouch by any means and could very well take a game from us. One thing is for certain: We're going to REALLY have to step it up defensively and stay out of the box vs. Harvard. My projected lineup: Spirko, Zajac, Stafford Kozek, Duncan, Porter Fabian, Watkins, Prpich Miller, Kaip, Mertens Smaby-Radke Jones-Marvin Foyt-Alexander? (I know Finley, Chorney, and Lee are gone but I feel like I'm missing a defenseman...) Ouch.... our defensive corps looks scary.

I'd also like to add to my list after all thing's said and done: 6. Getting a penalty while on the PP. There's few things more dumb then taking your team off hte PP.

Moreland was a walk on last year and isn't this year. It was stated that he is taking collegiate courses at UND (or was last year anyways) so I'm thinking at least one year of his eligibility has been used up. As for Jacque. Dunno.

World Junior Tourney...oshie, lee, chorney, toews

Some mention of Chorney and Lee as being paired up. Link. -
Hockeymom and Goon may be right, but here's my addition to it: I think GK has a 5 year old mentality. 5 year olds think very concretely. If they feel they've been wronged, even if they haven't, or even if they don't understand what is happening to them, they lash out in the same manner that they percieve they were approached. So, GK thinks we're all racists. Despite the fact that he can't prove that the nickname has produced the racist acts that occurred in upwards of 10-30 years ago, he thinks the best way to get his point across is to be racist towards us. The "If I'm as racist as I believe they are, then they'll take my side of the story because then they'll experience what I believe I (substitute in "my people") have gone through" mentality, so to speak. In harsher terms, it's like beating someone up so that they understand what pain is and how you feel about it. Empathy is great. Forced empathy ("Oppressed? I'll show you what it's like to be oppressed") NEVER EVER WORKS.

Goon- UAH in the WCHA? Are you insane? Send them to a league more to their suiting and talent levels, like the AHA. I wouldn't want to give up games against top tier opponents even if it would mean beating UAH 12-1, 8-0 in a 2 game series.

I hate agreeing with you since you obviously aren't a Devils fan to start with, but I think you are right. I'm not exactly sure what to take of the Devils now. I wouldn't call Brodeur by what you call him as he clearly is one of the best goaltenders in the league regardless of how simply awful the team in front of him is playing. I'm sure if the Flyers acquired him somehow tommorrow, you'd probably change your mind. Lou's philosophy is an interesting one and one that is, at times, hard to figure out. I LOVE the fact that they draft players with the intention of developing them into regular NHLers and not tradebait or minor league filler (especially with the lower rounds 5th round or later). I also love how he's not stubbornly against spending money to get players to come to NJ (like the Wild's GM. The Wild needs scorers and they've NEVER had a better chance than last off season but they said "I'm doing it my way" and now they are, at best, a 500 team). Unfortunately for NJ, they are hovering at or just within the confines of the salary cap. So, with your charge of Lou not doing anything, I would change it to the organization spending themselves into immobility.

Guess I'm lost on this one... Why would GPL people talk about Oshie?
-
Wow. Just in case you missed the 15 threads about this on USCHO.com First off: Michigan Tech wasn't always a patsy. And if they go, they take the McNaughton with them. Before anyone brings it up, UAA leaves, then we lose a game in our season or something to that effect. I believe we get an extra conference game for either playing UAA in general or travelling to UAA. I can't remember the specifics. If we HAD to realign, really, the team that could lose out would be MSU Mankato. They are the newest program to the WCHA, IIRC. The more appropriate question would be: What would happen if the WCHA expanded to 12 teams by adding BSU and UNO?
-
Oshie is one of the best freshmen I've seen too... but it is going to be tough to top Zach Parise...
-
I was wondering why he only had 4:22 of ice time. Zach Parise had nearly 15 minutes of ice time tonight in a 4-1 loss. -1 +/- with 3 SOG. Something's up with him. Either he's not adjusting well or he's just not being used the right way in the offensive scheme.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Just because Lucia landed a top defensive recruit doesn't mean that the defenseman is dumb. Anyways, the last big defenseman (over 6'3") to play in Minnesota left after one year to assume his duties as a lifer in the NY Rangers minor leagues organization. And it must be something to get that role seeing how defensively lacking the Rangers have been over the last decade. Anyways, location of hometown means nothing. Smaby is from St. Paul. He went to S. St. Paul High School before going to Shattuck. Chorney is from Hastings. We have a ton that came via Fairbault. Just because you are born in the Twin Cities area doesn't mean you'll attend UMN. Just like just because you're born in North Dakota doesn't mean that you'll play for the Sioux.

TJ Oshie is the PS Door's player of the game. My three stars: 1. TJ Oshie 3G 2. Travis Zajac 4A 3. Rastislav Spirko 3A Revised

Not saying I don't like weak goals. I'm saying it was weak. A goal is a goal is a goal. At least the audio broadcasts don't have to endure that deoderant commercial "I want your bod." :puke:

Ok, they didn't listen on my PP strategy but that doesn't matter. They now lead 19-14 in shots. All I can say is: 1. Much better discipline, but I don't see why Duncan had to slash him. 2. Last half of the 2nd saw BSU get BACK onto their game. 3. Oshie is a stud. His second goal was amazing. I think it was off of Deterding (deterdeterding! ) 4. Porter's goal was weak (but I'll take it). All in all, this period was MUCH better than the first. In the third we need to work on: 1. Outlet passing and neutral zone play. Again, we've had trouble with this all weekend. 2. 5 on 5 play. All our goals are PPG. That's great and all, but seriously, we need to out play them 5 on 5. 3. Continue the discipline that we saw in the 2nd period. Not a whole lot of penalties during that period.
-
Some early thoughts: 1. Both goaltenders are on their game tonight. 2. BSU is on their game tonight. So much so that I think it should be 1-0 BSU. 3. The "Superstupidwhythehellwouldyoudothat" award favorite for post game so far goes to Prpich. What an idiotic idea. What's he doing on the PP anyway? Stupid. Just plain stupid. 4. BSU 10 UND 5. That's the shot total right now. See something interesting? Yup. We don't score goals by passing around the perimeter 100 times. Shoot it shoot it shoot it. As amateur as this sounds, I'd like to see what happens if, on the PP, the Sioux impose a 3 touch shoot rule. Meaning you can only touch the puck three times in the offensive zone before attempting a shot. 3 passes and then a shot, 3 passes and then a one timer, 2 passes and then a one timer, whatever. It might not work, but at least it would be worth a shot. For the second period: 1. PLAY WITH DISCIPLINE! Good grief! How many PPs can we give them before they score? Let's not find out! 2. Shoot the puck. Don't be afraid to shoot then crash the net looking for a rebound. 3. Outlet passing. Let's worry about getting it out of the zone before we worry about who is going to shoot it on net. There are going to be very few "perfect outlet scenarios" in this game. Let's start thinking about just getting it out and making the best of what we can get. 4. Neutral zone play. My goodness, between the turnovers in our zone and the neutral zone... I don't like this much. We HAVE to improve this.

Exactly. ANother point: It is one thing to have a PK dominate you 5 on 4, but on that early 5 on 3, UND didn't get a SINGLE SHOT ON GOAL. Sorry, when you are facing an opponent who is down 2 players for whatever, it is the BEST time to be aggressive in the offensive zone. A good 5 on 4 PK can cause confusion and endless cycling, sure, but when you only have three guys out on the ice not counting the goaltender, I don't see a whole lot to convince me that the Sioux shouldn't have been able to at least get one shot on goal. To me, on special teams, there are many no-nos that really drive me crazy. Here are a list of them in order of worst thing you can do: 1. Give up a SHG. ESPECIALLY if you are up 5 on 3. 2. On a 5 on 3 PP, not getting a single shot on goal (especially if the 5 on 3 is longer than 20 seconds) 3. Giving up more SOG to the short handed team than you shoot on the PP. There is a reasonable assumption that you really shouldn't be spending too much time at all defending in your own zone while on the PP to begin with, but there are some really good PK teams out there. 4. Short handed odd man rushes. Rare, but holy crap how bad can your PP unit be to get caught like this. Note, I don't remember the last time the Sioux got caught in this situation, but I did see it in an NHL game. 5. This goes along with #3, but spending most of your PP time in your own zone. They are short handed. Why are less players outplaying you? I love when we score SHGs, but really, there have been a TON of opportunities for them this year which really leads me to believe that a good PP unit is something to REALLY brag about nowadays, because shot handed opportunities on goal SHOULD be quite rare.

Though I get the idea of what you are trying to say quite clearly, I'm not sure about your comparison of Chorney and Goligoski or Hagemo for that matter. Lee is very much in the same mold as those two, being solid offensive defensemen. However Chorney was known as much for his defensive play as his offensive play before coming to UND, whereas, IIRC, Goligoski and Hagemo were known as offensive defensemen standouts. Offensive defensemen aren't bad unless they don't play responsible defensively.

I knew I could use Google to find sites and articles and sources and all, but Google can also recalculate GAA and Save%? Wow.
-
Yeah, I realized I wasn't specific enough when I posed the question! I mean, how much better does it get? What would be his new numbers?
-
So how does this game affect Lammy's Save% and GAA?

Dead air with the mic on Lotsyz (sp) has never sounded better. Now... if we only could get Bredahl to do the same....
