  1. I did not know that. Oh well. So much for that theory.
  2. Probably not, but the chances are good nonetheless
  3. That's what I was thinking when he was named. I thought to myself "The ONLY way Digger wins is if UND wins the National Championship." UND is out and so is Digger. A shame. I don't know the other two, but I think the story aspect of a candidate is almost as important as the performance aspect with these awards. I mean, Hobey Baker won by Junior Lessard, who nearly drowned a few years before... Beschorner who wasn't even a QB when he came to college (he was a punter)... Unless the other two have some other human interest aspects, I think USD has a Harlon Hill winner.
  4. Team West looks pretty good from what little I know about any of the players.
  5. I know I'm not Hak, but I think I'd do the same thing Hak did vs. SCSU. Phil on Friday and Jordy on Saturday. HOWEVER, if Phil picks up a shutout, I'd say let Phil take Saturday too.
  6. I want the ladies to win as much as the next Sioux fan, but I'm not holding my breath for this next series. They are the defending champs. MY Personal hope is that we make them sweat. Maybe hold a lead for a while or keep it a one goal contest. Maybe go to OT. Or maybe get something both games that gives the fans something to cheer about. And, yeah, I'm going to say that I'm disappointed with the Maine series.
  7. Ticket Thread
  8. Except for tommorrow, bums like me won't be able to get those games without assistance from a sports bar or somewhere that has all of those Fox channels. My folks have the Outdoor Sports Network, I think, but isn't that the channel that DISH Network pulled because of some contract dispute with the NHL or that channel?
  9. What he's saying is that Kessel hasn't played anyone yet. He's gotten most of his success against teams with losing records. He has done well against Michigan though... Right now, though, Ryan Potulny is the best player on the Gophers.
  10. It's not going to be televised. HOWEVER: If you don't mind listening to the MTU rubes, MTU is webcasting the event. From what I've been told, it's a free webcast.
  11. I'm no proponent of the 175 different bowl games. I think they are wasteful and meaningless to everyone save those who hold the purse strings in the NCAA. HOWEVER, in this case, I'll make an exception. Kudos to Rutgers! Even though this probably belongs on the Football thread
  12. I too love how he personifies Zajac as a "kid" One thing that, for some reason, really made me impressed was how he answered the question regarding the upcoming draft. Usually, it's something like "Naw, I don't let it bother me. I just go out, play hard, and where I go in the draft I'll be happy" etc. etc. I like that the gravity of that event really does give him pause for thought. Maybe it will elevate his game that much higher. After all, unfortunately, Toews in a Sioux uniform is a "for a limited time only" affair. And as much as these kinds of reports surface about Jon the better he will fair barring injury, a bad year, or a bad NHL combine. These days you will find character weighing in a lot in GM draft decisions.
  13. Thanks. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  14. He's projected at #2, #3, or #4 in the draft depending upon which list you look at. I believe ISS has him at #2 overall.
  15. THANK YOU for your GREAT recap on Forney. What my interests are more akin to what would bring that scout from McKeen to say that he was a "Defensive liability" at least at times. Is this because of what you cited (lack of physical game)? How good is his skating? Does he get caught not moving his feet much? On a purely superficial note, what number does he wear? Again, thanks for your recap. I look forward to hearing more.
  16. Just like the word "TROLL" says it all for you? Go away. Don't worry though. All I'll see from this post onwards is:
  17. This talk is on Toews. I could care less about Kessel. As for how well he is doing so far, I think he's doing more than just fine. I think he's doing great. The problem is that he is getting overshadowed by Oshie, but what do you expect from an older player even if he is a freshman? Will he stick around the WCHA for another year? He very well may due to his age, but not due to his play. IF Toews does leave UND for "the next level" I'm sure it will be to the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. I hope he doesn't leave for Major Juniors but I think it is a possibility especially if the Tri City coach starts practicing tactics out of the books of the Moncton coach.
  18. Thauwald. This marks the second straight season he was knocked out for the season with a torn ACL. Talk about terrible luck. And the Michigan "would have" post wasn't meant to be confused with the fact that Minnesota deserved to win. They did and they did handily. I turned to my father who remarked at the score with 15 min left in the 3rd period and said "This game is over. Michigan just isn't playing very well." I was using that for the only reason to emphasize how important it is to stay out of the box against Minnesota. That's it.
  19. ESPN screwed up their box score or they never updated their roster because apparently Jeff Ulmer scored a goal in the OTT vs NYI game on Friday. Here is the boxscore of the game. It is a wishful bit of misinformation as Ulmer gets credited for Hamel's goal on ESPN.com. I should clarify that Jeff Ulmer is playing overseas.
  20. But think of it this way: If Michigan didn't suck on the PK and played more disciplined, they would have won 3-1. Can you see how important it is going to be when we face them to stay out of the penalty box?
  21. Interpret this how you will, but NJ just traded for a defenseman. How do you think this looks for Hale if they trade for a guy?
  22. Didnt realize Mueller was as big as he is. As for that order, it seems a lot like what Hockeysfuture message board members were saying... although I'd be happy to see Toews go anywhere in the top 5. If it is #2 overall, great. If it is #5 overall, that's good too. Don't mean to wish ill on anyone, but the closer to the second round he goes, the more likely we'll have him at UND longer. That's the only advantage I could see with Toews' draft stock dropping. That being said, I hope it doesn't drop and Toews positively lights it up this year.
  23. You know, the process on this website shows student involvement, or at least the institution's attempt to get students involved in the process. So, even as large as it is getting down there, I'd accept it. The thing that I think that is most important to me lies with the REA and whatever changes it will have to make in order to change over with the change of the nickname. Financially, I think UND and the Sioux tribes should work together to fund the removal of the logos should we change the logo. I'd say a 50-50 arrangement. The tribes pay for the removal and clean up processes and UND can pay for the reinstallment of whatever they decide be it plain granite floor (matching but logo-less) or as ornate as they wish. This arrangement would be fair because the tribes would get charged with eliminating what they feel is a derogatory logo and name at a cost that they should have to pay to get rid of the nickname. It would be fair for UND because they won't be accused of being racist when they remove the logos (all dragging of wastebuckets across logos will be done by NA or NA supervised workers so it is their own problem not UND's), UND won't have to be directly associated with the removal process (which means they can claim that the NA people took down the logos with the permission of UND, not UND taking it down which infers that UND is taking responsibility for an NCAA created wrong), and funding-wise, it will cost more to replace than remove so UND can claim to take the majority of the financial hit in the process as to appear unbiased or hurtful during the change. To me, it is only fair. Complaints about this can be stated that UND had no part in the logo placement, did not pay for it, and therefore should not be held responsible for their removal. It came as a charitable donation to the University.
  24. I'm sure this has already been responded to, but mako, we don't have a mascot. We have no one who dresses up like a Sioux tribal member and these tshirts were made by idiots who have no clue as to what is proper. Your logic is tragically flawed because the same thing could be said about anything. Getting rid of a nickname isn't going to end racism. Racists are everywhere. They are racists even among Native Americans. HOWEVER, should we get rid of everything that someone could remotely find offensive just because someone might? We'd be paralysed as a culture! I can see it now! Irving Berlin's "(I'm dreaming of a) White Christmas" gets banned because the term "White" is derrogatory towards non-whites. I mean, comon! A White Christmas? What's wrong with celebrating Christmas in the Black culture? The "we don't want your honor" is such a warped phrase because, using the same rationale, Irving Berlin's song I just mentioned would be doubly banned because Irving Berlin is Jewish and how could a Jew sing a Christmas song? UND has no mascot and UND isn't racist. UND does FAR more for Native Americans than ANY college that is NOT a tribal college in the tri state area and probably the region! But that, to you, doesn't matter. You let a T-shirt become the attribute that describes an institution and the thousands of people that attend and have attended it rather than judging what the institution does, sanctions, and acts towards your people. How sad.
  25. Ah, I see. Well, then I'll change my prediction: Minny loses to Michigan and wins against MSU (apparently due to injury and other factors the MSU that is playing now is different than the one we played earlier this year in the negative sort of way). UW beats MSU and Michigan. My ranking predictions will stand though.
