I think, with this year's freshmen class so big, that our recruiting classes for the next year or two should be smaller than others. So, as they say, size doesn't matter. And from what I've read, Sam Gagner is either going UMN or UW with whomever's home city the reporter's reporting from having the "lead"

Apart from freshmen, I really don't see a Hobey candidate among our upper classmen as it may. Each of our upperclassmen bring a great quality to the game and each play a pivotal role in our path to success, but none of them stand out more than the rest.

Could you send me a box of those "samples?" To put a hockey twist on this: I think Widman's should have a stand like the Bavarian roasted nuts at the REA. I also think the Pepper should have one too. Can you think of anything better? A Grinder with a side of chippers and washed down with your favorite beverage all while watching some kick arse hockey?

I have had my run ins with Slap Shot in the past. I've not called him some very nice things either on USCHO. However, I agree with his last long-winded statement up to a point. Yes, I read his posts and he did indeed state that Shepherd (Shep is a user name here, Slap ) did suck this past weekend. From what I gathered there isn't a soul here that would disagree with that. The point where I draw the line is that there doesn't appear to be a post that says "If Shepherd didn't suck, UND would have won." I didn't see that anywhere really. Or maybe I interpretted posts that were similar in scope to that differently. In any case, Slap Shot is the least of the posters that I think SS.com could do with out. There are others like this Sue Suck guy, Happy, and all that we could do without. The worst thing that you all could do if you were upset with him is ignore him. I think that this past weekend is over and we're already over the hump towards next weekend. I think it's time to let things simmer down and move on towards the next series. Our time for redemption may come. If not at the Mariucci, perhaps at the XCel Energy Center? Who knows.

He doesn't spend a lot of time in the box considering those you reference, but I also think he is far less physical than I thought he'd be, and it is only more apparent by comparing him to those same people. I'd almost hate to say this, but our defense looks a lot like Minnesota's. Last year we were heavy on defensive defensemen and heavy hitters at that. This year... we have a LOT more scoring D. Time will tell where everything ends up, whether we'll continue being a hard hitting defensive unit or whether we'll mold into a more total offense style like Minnesota's. I hope we go back to the heavy hitting. I love to see the lost looks on the hit player's face as he rearrangehis his helmet upon getting back up.

I agree. I also think it could be a message sent towards Phil by Lucia stating "I know you're not known for defense but maybe you can show me something I've missed?" Seems far fetched but, as of now, I haven't seen a whole UMN game so I can't tell you how unreliable Kessel is defensively. Here's another question: When does Phil come onto the ice during the PK? It might be something worth trying if there is a faceoff with less than 30 seconds left on the PK to perhaps get something going on that faceoff or when the player comes out of the box?

My impression was that the Sioux very much wanted both Ryan and Danny but they knew, because of what happened with the snafu Re: Grant, that the odds were that the Sioux wouldn't get Ryan so they went after Danny. Problem is, Danny is good friends with Ryan and Ryan probably played that much bigger of a role in Irman's decision to play for the Gophers.

I never knew Tim O'Connell was that much of an offensive threat Then again, I never really paid much attention to him while he was on the Sioux.

I think Finley is in dire need of improving his physical game. I know this even without seeing these last two games. I'm confused why this is taking such a long time to develop other than thinking that there is this fear Finley might be facing about going to the box because of his physicality. I'm hoping this is just inexperience talking and we'll see some sort of explosion in his total game in the near future. To add to that, I also agree on the total physicality of our entire defensive corps being down. This doesn't mean that players like Lee, Radke, and Finley stink, but we're really used to seeing a team face us and go home aching and bruised even if they beat us in the score. Jones isn't at Smaby's level of physicality but he's showing signs that he's going to get there. But we really need to turn that up a notch. We're a different team this year. And the change of styles is drastic. I truly hope that everyone sits back and realizes that things take time. No one (should) expect this team to win it all this year. If they do, WOW! Great! YEEEHAW! But we will recover and we will finish where we were projected to finish. That is: 5th place in the WCHA. We lost to the Gophers at home. Gopher punks are going to show up here and on USCHO and act all snotty. Wow. Big deal. It happens every year. Just skip over them and read those who actually have a decent head on their shoulders (Greyeagle, sagard, sometimes ( ) WPoS) and move on. We knew coming into this season we'd take our lumps before Christmas. Well, we did. WI and MN kicked our butts. If us fans feel awful over these lumps, imaqine how the players must feel. Let's move on and keep things in perspective. I think we'll be fine.

I agree. I am not going to comment on the games because I was in Washington DC for the series, so I'll just take the words of the posters about player performances here. Yeah, Too bad Hakstol is actually a good coach. I mean, seriously. How many crappy, uninspired coaches take their team to the Frozen Four THEIR FIRST YEAR AS A HEAD COACH? Yeah. he sucks. I don't know if we will make it to Milwaukee, I didn't know even before the season started, but to say that Toews is overrated, Hakstol isn't cutting it as a head coach, and that JPar just isn't the go to guy after having two bad games, that's just what you call "diving from the bandwagon."

The article was amazing. Bo says that he wants to make solid efforts while he is up with the big club. That's a team player! I mean, he could totally have taken his demotion a different way but he didn't. I hope Bo continues to do so well that, when Havlat returns from injury, the Sens have to make a tough decision. It amazes me that a team could make so much strides just by giving a rookie time to adjust.

Here's some things: 1. Why do they have to call it a "three-goal hat trick?" Is there another kind of hat trick? 2. Butler had a great series... 1 goal 2 assists. If blocked shots and hits count for anything then there are many players that should have been player of the week a few times now. Kozek's points were more impressive even if it was inferior competition. 3. Chad Rau, who was awarded 2 points (1 goal 1 assist) and Billy Smith (1g 1a) both get runner up and not Mayson Raymond (1g 2a)? Yeah. I think that's retarded too.

I'm more interested in: 1. Why isn't this on the High School hockey thread 2. Why is this thread not closed or moved?

Ok ok... The bias exists only to satisfy me in case Toews doesn't make it and to explain why Murray had to become a US citizen to participate in the WJCs and why Zajac didn't make the team. We'll see what happens to those 5 invitees.
