Is the GFRR/South game the EDC Championship game? I'm unfamiliar with the High School playoff format so after today, what happens? Can I assume that the winners of these three games play the winners of the WDC final three?

Even though I have Miss Informant on Ignore, I can pretty much summarize what he said: "UND sucks by their own choosing. They should have jumped with all the other good schools. Since they didn't want to toil in a made up conference for as long as we have spending the amount of money we have, they have chosen to stay in a weaker conference so that they can feel good about their decision. God I am glad that I root for NDSU, but please, don't think that I'm an NDSU troll despite the fact that I think NDSU rules and UND sucks. You all are rooting for the second best ND school. I hope you are happy." Now you don't have to read ANY more of his long arsed posts. Just read this one and you'll understand what his message is.

I'd love to buy one, but only one. is that possible? If not, that's ok. EDIT: Wait a minute. It appears as though dmjoen might have taken the lot of them. Oh well.

3. Yeah, but his team D was nonexistant in the third really. He did play well other than those first two goals though. 4. Not saying he didn't. I'm saying I saw some non calls on both sides that, had Derek not been feeling generous, could have changed the game (and I couldn't complain if he DID make the calls). Instead, he kept his arm down.

If Meghan had been on Team USA today, all she had to do was to take off her helmet, swirl her hair and then everyone in the arena would have been distracted (men drooling, women seething in jealousy) and USA would have beat Sweden. Oh well. Bronze will suffice. I still bet it will be better than where our men end up in Torino.

YAY MANKATO! Harvard lost which, IIRC, is good. Miami lost, which is bad.

Who is Matt Smavy? Something tells me the Ziggy jersey will go pretty cheap. I'd love to have the Zajac jersey, the Greene jersey, and/or the Smaby jersey.

Have your sources heard anything about Thiessen or some of the other goaltenders out there?
-
I'd like to see her score a hattie. P.S. I /think/ I've seen your avatar around my parent's neighborhood a few months back.

Exactly. What's the difference between an ugly win and a pretty win? NOTHING. A win is a win is a win is a win.

iceberg was half right tonight. He got UND's goal count right. UMD's was a little off.

Some thoughts: 1. The 1st and 2nd periods (especially the 2nd period) was a lot closer than I would have liked. It SHOULD have been 0-0 still at the beginning of the third period. 2. Special teams was good only in the third period. The rest of the time it seemed like we barely managed to get into the zone before making an errant pass. And I'll tell you what. We only took the puck to the net twice on the power play. The first time was because it was basically a 2 on 0 (Oshie's holy crap goal). The second time was saved by Ziggy. We take so many perimeter shots that it's amazing that we're even at 18-20 percent on the power play. PK was pretty good. 3. Ziggy: WTF is with this guy? He can stop all the hard stuff but can't make the easy ones? WTH is up with that? Fabian's goal was weak, but Stafford's first goal was ridiculous! I nearly did a spit take when I saw the puck go in! Unbelievable. Oshie and Stafford's 2nd were goals Ziggy couldn't do anything about. I can't believe it. Still, Kudos to Ziggy for keeping it as close as it was and to Sandy for having the confidence in Ziggy to give him a shot against his old team. Nevertheless, Isaac starts tommorrow. 4. Derek Shepherd only called the most blatant penalties, especially as the game progressed. Needless to say, we can't count on that kind of treatment. We still need more discipline. However, kudos to our players for taking out the officials on two different occasions 5. Jordan Parise played amazing hockey. AMAZING hockey. He was, at times, a little too adventurous, but that's Jordy. I just hope that the good Karma on this meandering holds up because I don't know what could possibly bring a goaltender out into traffic or out to the faceoff circles for ANY reason. 6. Kozek and Duncan: Talk about snake bitten tonight. Kozek tried so darn hard all darn game and came up empty. Duncan had a shot that was about 2 inches from being a goal. Instead... PING!!!!! It may have rattled him some because he had trouble handling the puck a bit afterwards. Pretty quiet game from Kaip, Prpich, Porter, and Watkins. Not saying they weren't solid, but they didn't really do anything noteworthy. That's about it for now. Trying to debate going to the game tommorrow...

I have a slightly alterred opinion of this. First, there are players who DO crash the net and do so often. The problem is: they are clustered on two lines. Zajac and Oshie on one line, Toews on the other. Secondly, we DO try to crash the net, however, when we do, it's usually without the puck. We need to find ways to GET the puck in front of the net. Getting players in front of the net hasn't been a problem this year. The puck just hasn't made it there very often. Of the three mentioned above, the best player we have that crashes the net with the puck is Jonathan Toews. With the talent our upper classmen have, why is a freshmen the best at doing this? And even more, why is the YOUNGEST freshman on the team the best at it? Players that I can see crashing the net with the puck better are: Chris Porter - He has hoverred around the net quite a bit but he hasn't been able to get the shot off what few times the puck has gotten to him. Travis Zajac - He's really good and this shouldn't be misconstrued as stating that he's not doing a good job, but he needs to shoot more and pass less! Rylan Kaip - Ok, the dude is a checking forward, but he's gritty and tough. I think he could get goals if they have him always crashing the net instead of shooting off the wing. Eric Fabian/Mike Prpich - Both do their best. I'm not sure how they can improve as they just aren't goal scorers in the true sense of the word. But they could use their gritty play and size (especially Fabian) to get into a position to score off the rebound.

198 POINTS?!?!?!? DUDE! This guy belongs in the NHL
-
I don't know. Minnesota had a problem with birth year a few years back. Just ask Happy about DU and UND way back when and their "30 year old Canadians" Seriously, I don't know. I just know that Thiessen is trying to get a scholarship offer for next season.

Could it be.... SATAN?!?!?

Tough loss for Central. Well, they'll beat Jamestown for sure. So West Fargo heads on to face Red River. Not as sure of a barn burner as if it would have been Central moving on, but I'm sure Red River is happy with the matchup. Red River wins vs. West Fargo.
-
I hope so because they aren't going to be able to let many more games go before they start "playing for pride" instead of "playing for a medal"

With a chin like Peluso's, how could Prpich miss? And if Prpich could have missed, would there have been any chance he could have landed it to Shepherd's nose?

Slovakians handled the Latvians pretty well. Hmmm Latvia tied the US, meaning they're probably as good as the US was that night... Slovakians beat Latvia... This PROBABLY means that Slovakia is better than Latvia and is therefore certainly better than US. Better hope that Slovakia hits a bump or well.... my previous prediction will turn into this: Gold: Canada Silver: Slovakia Bronze: Finland Czech, Russia, and US given complimentary participation ribbons and SCSU jersies

Some points I'll rehash from earlier in the thread: Forwards prospects: Mario Lamoureaux already has an offer on the table, IIRC, from UND for 2007. I do believe that UND is recruiting Aaron Marvin pretty hard, though I have no proof. I would also add Tessier to the list of those we have a decent shot at landing. David Toews and Tessier are best friends. Kind of like the Ryan Potulny-Danny Irman thing IMO. Defense: Matson expressed interest in UND but I doubt we'll land him. He's all but committed to UMN, IMO. LaPoint, I believe, very much is leaning towards North Dakota, IMO. His brother works at UND. He's made visits too, IIRC. Does this mean it's a sure thing? No. Lebler of the BCHL (forgot his first name) was supposedly all but committed to UW but changed his mind and committed to Michigan, so who knows for sure. Goaltender: I don't think Thiessen is as good of a shot as we're letting on. Blogs have stated, as well as various sources, that Thiessen wants to enter college next year. He's a 1986 birthday so entering in 2007 would put him as an older 20 year old if not 21 years old as a freshman. No offense to Brad as he is a quality tender, I think UND should look towards at least a 1987 birthdate if not a 1988 birthdate for a goaltender.
-
I'd probably surmise that it will be a combination of both! And a clarification on my question: I MEANT to mean that "win out" doesn't include the Final Five.
-
Here's a what if question: Is there a way that UND could win out but still not make the NCAAs?
-
I don't know anymore. I thought, since Aebischer is a sieve that couldn't even hold onto the #1 goaltending position for the Avs for a stretch this year, that the Czechs would steamroll them. But alas, it was not to be. What does a Czech loss mean to the US? Well... if they are able to beat their next opponent, it puts them right back into the medal hunt. Concievably now that both Czech and Russia have choked away a game, Team USA COULD, though it isn't likely, win as high as Silver. My revised predictions are: GOLD: Canada SILVER: Finland Bronze: Czech/USA (toss up) If Russia and Czech lose one more game, they're out of medal contention, IMO. If Team USA loses or ties another game medal contention will be VERY difficult.
-
Well, I don't agree with Russia as a Silver. At best, they are Bronze contenders. As for Czech, I'm still putting them with Silver even if Hasek is done. Why? Vokoun, the backup goaltender has been just as solid this year so far with Nashville and had just as solid of an Olympic tryout as Hasek did, according to various media sources heard on the radio. By the way, Vokoun is better than the US trio anyways so even if there is a decline, the Czechs could still beat out the field for Bronze.
