It's nice to think that Fetch isn't a scout. Oh well. Goon- I definitely agree. I think Lee needs to fill out his frame a bit more. Throw in experience and he's going to be a really good one. In fact, I can't wait for it to happen. I'd love to see Fetch eat his words. So far, people have said "Matt Smaby has been a great disappointment so far in his career" during his freshman year. So far, they're WRONG. Of course, I said Matt was a valuable asset to the Sioux and will be a great one from day one. Gosh, I guess I'm not wrong all the time, now aren't I? But what do I know? shep is right: I don't see Sioux players as "potential busts." I guess that makes me naive.

Because I didn't get a chance to view the GFC-Minot tilt, could someone please clarify how Minot players are so unsportsmanlike for hitting the crossbar with their sticks after an ENG? I mean. I've seen that in the WCHA, the NCAA playoffs, the NHL, International competitions.... I always thought it meant the players were frustrated and disappointed? Or am I wrong and the Minot players actually broke their sticks over a GFC player/coach/mascot/fan/bench?

Evidentally Hockeysfuture.com and the Senators staff feel highly about Brian.

Oshie named St. Louis Blues' Top Prospect per Hockeysfuture. This is great for TJ but how will this play out for UND? I still believe TJ will be back for his sophomore year, but will he be here for his junior year? Who knows. Congrats TJ.

I thought the keys to Team USA's hockey team's success was scoring more goals and allowing fewer goals to their opposition. I'd also like to point out that Team USA's new jerseys will play an impact on the game as the white jerseys won't stand out much from the ice. I'm also surprised that, once again, Team USA went with their usual colors of Red, White, and Blue this year. Seriously about Modano, I feel bad for him... flying all that way and spending all that money to stay out there and do something as tedious as representing one's country in a sport such as hockey. I think the folks at Team USA should heed his feelings. Send him a card that states: "We here at Team USA headquarters would like to thank you for your participation on this year's Team USA Olympic men's hockey team. We do apologize for all the incovenience this participation has caused you directly and indirectly. Do take comfort in knowing that, in four years, we will not inconvenience you in any way. Our offices have deleted your phone number and address from our database. This will be the last communique you recieve from this Office. Good luck in your future endeavours. Sincerely, The Staff of Team USA" Representing our country is an HONOR, not a CHORE. The note states it clearly: "Don't wait for us to invite you back. Don't worry. We won't."

Oh Parise please don't tell me we're going to have a seperate thread for each game....

This is snappy? I guess you win!

You mean I actually predicted something correctly? WOW!

It is probably now.

I agree with dagies. He has cooled off since the WJC but he's hardly been a liability on the ice either. However, I find this interesting: Brian Lee is second among WCHA freshmen defensemen in scoring behind DU's Chris Butler. Nothing says "HE SUCKS" worse than being second, no? Seriously, Andy Schneider didn't have a great offensive campaign until his sophomore year. Matt Jones didn't come around until his Junior year offensively really. David Hale, Commie, Greene, Smaby, all aren't offensive defensemen but defensively they had trouble their freshmen years. Do you think Lee will be "in dire need to sit and watch" for however long he is in a Sioux uniform? Also, who would you put in place of him? Lee Marvin? Todd Alexander? Scott Foyt? Does any of these three scream "defensive talent" or "PP talent" to you? Hakstol's job is to make this team as competitive as he can. He has a challenging job of it this year with the youth and the expectations placed upon him and his players. I think the last think Hakstol would do to his credibility is to weaken the team by sitting a defensemen that, on the whole, has played really well throughout the year, even with his sluggish return from the WJC.

I can't replace Don Cherry. I don't have a bad enough opinion of European hockey players. As for the US-Finland tilt, it was better than I expected. The US scored 3 goals! Seriously, they should be proud of that. That's better than Canada managed. Other than that, no surprise on the four goals by Finland. They're a better team than us. Many of the teams in the medal round are. As for the Canada tilt... Surprised by that one. Serious shnide by the Canucks. Wow. Russia and Finland are for real. The Czech-Slovakia game is huge for the Czechs. All of my predictions are still wrong at this time so oh well. Because you all were making fun of me and hurting my feelings ( ) no more predictions. You may all rejoice now.

I guess I'm not sure what you mean, Fetch. Sure, our D has looked young at times and made some pretty foolish mistakes, but I don't think they've done too badly. I mean, we have only 2 D that AREN'T freshmen that play regularly. I don't know if any other team has that young of a D. And I doubt they've performed as well as ours has if they do (UMD might be the closest). Our young D has a lot of maturation to do, but they'll come around.

Mooooooooooooooooooooooom, Clayton Hoyt and PCM are making fun of me AGAIN!

And if South wins? Seriously, IF South wins, what will you do? Will you: A. Boo like the GFRR crowd did when Mihulka got that award? B. Simply not show up on this site? C. Simply not acknowledge that South was better when it counted? D. Come up with something classless that South did (fans and/or players) that makes them unworthy champs? <-- This I'd be interested in reading because then I can quote this post of yours again and call you a hypocrite. E. Take the High Road and congratulate Fargo South for breaking up the Grand Forks HS Hockey dynasty even if it is only for one year? I'm a South alum and even I don't know if South will win. I also recognize GF Red River as being AS good or better than South. However, I'm not about to start a smear campaign against Red River any time soon. I think that's called class.

I do all the ti... DAMN! Now I'm going to get fined by the NCAA. Oh well. (Heh, PCM, eat your heart out. )
-
Nah. Right now they're playing for pride. I bet they show up and give it the best they got and lose 3-1. Yeah, I'll even give the US a goal. And yes, I think only one Finn goal will be 5x5
-
Yeah, but I'm stubborn. Oh well. I think Chris Heisenberg goes by "Chris" on all the popular blogs... so oh well.
-
Did they then go 1-3-1 in the other games? 0-1 doesn't get you out of contention. Having 3 more losses than your win total does.
-
I think the only teams the US could beat right now are not in the medal round. Can't beat Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, or Canada.... Ok MAYBE Switzerland (Aebischer plays we win. He's a sieve).
-
I have no serious answer. All I can say is: Team USA is already out of Gold medal contention.

I shall respond to this post with this: Need I say more? -
Excuse me? US could beat Finland? Wha? They SHUT OUT Canada. They have given up less than 5 goals IN THE ENTIRE OLYMPICS. Sorry, Finland wins easily. Seriously, in four years, I think it would be a real meaningful team with Ryan Miller and Rick DiPietro as the goaltenders for Team USA. After all, DiPietro has been the only decent goaltender we've had so far and Miller should have been in this one.
-
I guess the only ridiculous thing to me is that we swept UMD and, though they are a lower tier team this year, we still lost one spot in the USCHO polls.
-
wow. No offense, but you sure showed him.

Who would UND fans like to see to add Hockey first?
redwing77 replied to bigmrg74's topic in Men's Hockey
Syracuse has a history in hockey... but the thing I fear the most is that any new DI team out East is going to want to get into a conference that is out east as well. That means HEA (Not taking new teams), ECACHL (to my knowledge not taking new teams), or the AHA. IMO, I'd rather see a team form that will help the CHA out rather than any conference out east.
