Sorry, the most unfortunate name belongs to Boston Bruin pospect Wacey Rabbit

Though I don't doubt what you are saying, what about Red River vs GF Central? They've got to factor in there somewhere.

One last note on the draft for now: A TON of Gophers got drafted today and many of them in the later rounds. What this means is little if you are an NHL fan, but those late rounders could haunt us college hockey fans. Players like Michael Carmen and Ryan Flynn and Jay Bariball seem more worrisome to me than David Fischer or Erik Johnson. Fischer and Johnson are 1-2 year players at the U. Carmen and Flynn could be trouble for us Sioux fans... or they can be another PJ Atherton or Mike Vanelli. Who knows. Any time virtually every player signed to play for the team gets drafted, it's something to worry about. We had the pleasure of this last year. The Gophers get the honor this next year.

His future is "up to him." If he plays well enough, he could garner a contract as an undrafted free agent (like something Jordan Parise is allegedly signing in a week or so). Does this mean he'll stay all four years? More than likely, yes. But it isn't guaranteed (See again Jordan Parise or Travis Roche or Bryan Lundbohm...)

And the Mr. Irrelevant (I think that's what they call the last pick in the draft) goes to Penticton Vees defenseman and Cornell Recruit Justin Kreuger. And this draft is at an end. Too bad for Dowzak and Jones.

This doesn't surprise me. And I'll give you my "seat of the pants" uneducated opinion on why: If NHL teams are going to draft defensive defensemen, they're going to be 6' or taller. Jones isn't that big and he doesn't have a whole lot of offensive upside. It's no surprise to me that he didn't go so far anyways. EDIT: Deleted this line. ESPN is just slow to update. UND gets another first rounder and, for the second draft in a row, another player that was supposed to be drafted did not (Kyle Radke was projected to go in the 5th to 7th round his draft year and was passed. Zach Jones was passed over in two straight drafts). What does this mean for Zach Jones? Probably nothing more than a disappointing day. Other notables: Nigel Williams went lower than expected and, imo, Trevor Lewis went higher than expected. Forney's injury did indeed hurt his draft stock. I am not at all excited about who drafted LaPoint. Florida is a lot like Detroit draft wise (Europeans and MJers good. Everyone else sucks). Not too excited about where Forney will be going post draft either. Jeff Petry was picked earlier, though only slightly earlier than expected (and LaPoint was expected to go before him). Sneep went right where he was predicted, iirc. Sauer (goalie from Michigan) had his stock drop huge. Drafted in the 7th round. Where IS Dowzak! Wow. Jones and Radke went from 5th round to no round. I've never heard of 1st round/early 2nd round to undrafted... Wow.

As long as we both don't have to listen to each other's choice in music (i'm sure he wouldn't care too much for most of my favorite kinds of music), I'm ok with that.

Actually.... most of those people who reacted vehementally opposed to this ruling in government were Republicans. In this issue vs. the NCAA, I think the Republicans are actually on our side.

Mike, that was brilliant! And, I'm glad you posted it because it was FAR better than what I had in mind. From what I'm told, I'm going to hell too because I'm Jewish anyways, so maybe I should have posted that though. I'll gladly "take the religious bullet" for my goyish friends

Heart skipped a beat when I read that Marvin committed to UND. No dice though.. yet. There's no "should" in this equation. I think it would be ludicrous to believe that UND wouldn't be interested in Aaron Marvin. He's big, strong, can score, can forecheck... He's got a solid two way game. He's not Zach Parise, Oshie, or Toews by any means, but he's a really good combination of skill and size. I'd LOVE to have him camping out in front of the opposing netminder wearing a Sioux jersey. I hope it comes true.
-
I still have reservations of going the route of the anti-trust... Though the NCAA has lost a few of those cases (lost being the loose term being that most of these "losses" really were conceded by means of settlement and not to my knowledge by verdict). But I do think that, regardless of venue, it really comes down to a jury (if there is one) and the judge. Sorry, Sioux-cia, but if they have bleeding heart liberals dominating the jury and sitting on the bench, I think we're screwed.

and let us pray.... (I had a prayer all typed up, but it was too irreverent)

This is the best thing for UND football wise. I'm positive if UND didn't go DI, Lennon would. He's simply done too much at this level NOT to get serious attention from the I-AA level (Head Coach) or the I-A level (assistant coach)

May be a new article, but it is about old information. Nothing really of interest to me.

I think it depends upon your definition of "turn it on." I believe Kaip is going to "turn it on" this year, but my definition is different than yours. Will Kaip lead the team in any offensive category? No. Will he be in the top 5? No. Will his numbers increase dramatically this year offensively? Yes. I hope for him to end the year in the 6-10 goal range and about 10-20 assists. Now, I don't expect him to do anything but his role as assigned by the coach, but if there is a goal offensively for Kaip to shoot for, it's those numbers. I believe they are realistic. Also, Kaip needs to work on faceoffs. Fabian and Watkins aren't centers and we definitely need a good checking center. Defensively, Kaip only has one thing to work on/maintain: discipline. He's a physical hard nosed player who scraps. He worked hard last year (especially the second half). He's going to be called for his share of penalties, but if he can keep that to a minimum, he'll be BETTER (yes, I said it) than Prpich, though he may not necessarily get as "under the skin" of opponents as Prpich did.

I wonder what Roger Thomas is thinking about now? Was this jump the wisest move? Hindsight is 20/20 and I'm positive he didn't know this was what he was getting himself into, but still... sucks to be him right now.

Not really. Like my dealings with most of my elders, it generally turns into a "You know when I was younblahblah blah blah blah.."

Very sure. I've worked with his mother. She works at a local elementary school in Moorhead.

Congrats to the 'Canes! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy (Commodore). The way he's been going with the media, and taking a HUGE tablespoon of assumption, Commodore could end up wearing a letter in the NHL if he keeps it up on the ice and all. It could happen. Anyways, Commodore might bring it to Grand Forks, but even if he doesn't, the Cup WILL be coming to the Red River Valley as Matt Cullen is from Moorhead, MN so it will be coming to the F-M area eventually.

Yer gettin' old. Pretty soon you and PCM will start threads talking about when you each were young and being all "curmudgeonly" about us 'whippersnappers'

Funding and reparations. Some sort of financial version of an apology for the 75+ years of hostile and abusiveness the logo and name brought on. You wanted to know what's next for UND from those Sioux tribes. There you go. Get them in the heartstrings and then snatch their wallet.

No. More like 40. I thought the first period was pretty competitive. Other than that. I sat at Buffalo Wild Wings in Fargo watching and thinking "Carolina is playing Game 7 hockey. If they keep playing this way, they'll see Game 7 and I'm not sure they'll like the results of that game either." On another interesting note, most of the people at BBW were there for the game and they were huge Edmonton fans. Even more odd, they did the Minnesota rouser after a goal (even the Yay Gophers). I'm not trying to cause a flame fest, but why? Gopher fans- is there anyone on Edmonton that makes them a favorite among your fans (like Commodore and Greene make fans of those teams from our ranks)? However, Mike Commodore's play when he was in the corner with the puck, saw the Oiler coming, turned quickly and skated away as the Oiler took himself out against the boards was beautiful.

They're quite amazing hockey players. My neighbor, whose daughters play hockey, and I talk every now and then about them and what it would be like to get the "L" sisters (as you say) to come to UND to play. However, unlike him, I'm not so optimistic. Yeah, they're what... going into 10th grade? However, there are huge question marks regarding our program. I just don't see them coming to UND if all this junk about Rivard is really true. Nor do I see them coming to UND if the junk about Rivard is false and yet UND does nothing to improve the women's program. You all have to understand that, right now, these girls could choose any DI school in the nation even right now, and they'd be sure to get in (barring academic issues). With powerhouses like UMD, UMN, and the Ivy League schools all wanting them badly, what is going to make our program stick out?
