I don't know but when I saw the guy's name the first thing that came to my mind was: "Well, when the team is a joke, the first thing you should do is hire a comedian."

NO offense to Eddie, but I may be the only Red Wings fan not enthused about this deal. Eddie is yet ANOTHER 1 year rental on an old horse for the Red Wings. I'm not sure what else the Wings could have done, but I thought they should have gone after a younger goaltender like Luongo or perhaps Nabokov. We'll see how Eddie does this next year, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Again, this is nothing against Eddie as a UND alum and all. I just don't think he's the answer for the Red Wings.

Uh... I quite disagree with this statement. Moorhead is quite a hockey town. I would venture to make the argument that the Moorhead High hockey team is more popular than any other sport on campus. Cullen isn't bringing the cup for Fargoans per se. He's bringing the CUp to town for his charity event he holds. It just so happens that the event is held in Fargo, not Moorhead. Trust me, the event in the F-M area will be VERY well attended.

Does that matter, really? I mean, They could have taken 4 of 5 from the Sioux, but as long as that 1 loss comes in the WCHA Final Five, the Sioux still end up on top.

Is this a different camp? He obviously can attend the prospects camp without signing, isn't that what tons of college and Jr hockey players do? If he does sign I don't understand the hurry , I thought NHL camps don't start until late August or September?

Maybe it is Commie. More likely it will be Cullen.

I agree with PCM. He deserves a fair trial. The alternatives are frightening.

Embellishment is a rule I'm going to love, but this could go one of two ways: We could get more of the "even them up" rules (Oh, he was tripped and the fact that he was pushed down and sent sprawling across the ice means he embellished so both players go to the box) or they can do it right (the Robbie Earls of the WCHA will lead the league in embellishment calls). Once again, we're leaving a lot to the discretion of the incompeta.. I mean "quality" officials in the WCHA... if McLeod and Sheptard even enforce them in the first place. We're still waiting for the obstruction enforcement. I love the icing changes and even one of the two expiremental icing rules. As I understand it, these are the two expiremental rules regarding icing (paraphrased): 1. The Shorthanded team is now able to be called for icing the puck. 2. The team that ices the puck cannot change lines. I like #2. It was done in the NHL last season and it really does work. I don't like #1 because that's just plain ridiculous. As for the goaltender ruling, I'd love it if they started calling more goaltender interference penalties... but maybe it won't be necessary as JPar isn't at UND anymore so he can't lead the WCHA in the category of "Goaltender most "run" in a season"

I agree with sagard. I predict at 3 (EJ, Kessel, and Toews will go). UW is sitting back and laughing because they've only lost 4 players all season and offseason (IIRC they've lost Earl to the NHL and three players to Major Juniors, one doesn't really count as one is a recruit). I 'hope' Skille impresses Chicago and Ottawa decides to lure Elliot out of Madison. That way the playing field will be more even. Somehow, though, I don't think this will be the case. In any case, I think UW has a REALLY good chance at the McNaughton next season (at least on paper).

No, but the razzing of Goephert seems to have died down. I don't think the stuff with Bochenski died down until, what, half a season after he left UND? For some reason, UND (and to a certain extent UMN) has the stigma of being "holier than thou" and when Lucia or Hakstol goes out and recruits a player who will be great for their perspective teams, talk and address any character issues before offering a scholarship, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Oh well. If Tessier and Toews commit to UND I'll be happy, but I'm sure we'll have plenty of skippy alerts over their past.

That would make a dynamite duo right there. However, Malkin and Crosby duo is going to be something special too.

Perhaps you are right, but his wrist shot is unreal. I mean, it was one heckuva wrist shot in the BC game.

UNDintheNHL-- Dangling the puck is new to me, I always thought he was trying to sound out the PK crew for the other team. Remember, the more the puck is passed, the better the chance the PK unit has at either catching a break or intercepting the puck. Sure, you want to pass the puck some to get the defense moving (and the goaltender moving too), but waiting for the right match up is just as important. And for the umpteenth time, Lee isn't a physical defensive defenseman! Sure, he has size (6'3") but he's a finesse two way defenseman whose offensive upside is unreal. He's a positioning type of defenseman, not a bone crusher like Smaby, Finley, or Greene. He plays a different style. I guess Lee will forever be haunted by comparisons to the other tall defensemen to come through UND, but I guess I'm just happy he's a Sioux player (for now) and I think UND would genuinely be in trouble if he left.

I agree with fightingbooya. I really do think the locals need a "local hero" on the team. They chose Lammy by what he did in high school plus the accolades he recieved while in the USHL. I am not one to slight Phil, but I have no such allegence to local talent. I think that the players that should be put on the ice to play the games should be the ones that the coaches feel gives the team the best chance to win, whether those players hail from ND, MN, or Eastern Swaziland. Oh, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy seeing "Grand Forks, ND" in the hometown box of the roster card, but I don't believe it is THAT important. It's all about the talent that you bring in and it has NOTHING to do with where you are from. So, unfortunately for Phil fans, if asked which goaltender in retrospect would I have put in for the playoffs last year or the year before, I would have said Parise without hesitation. He was our man. He played like it. And the coaches and the players believed in him. I don't think there is anything to argue about after that.

Perhaps the wrong thread for this but... The Senators lost out on the bidding wars for two of the three top defensemen from last year. Chara is a Bruin now and Potheir (sp?) is no longer with the team. They did manage to re-sign Redden though. What does this mean to Sioux fans? I think INCH's expectation of Lee to remain in Grand Forks may no longer be so sure.

Have the Duke players been found guilty yet? It seemed like the prosecution had no case. TONS of evidence that only raises reasonable doubt on behalf of the Duke players as far as sexual misconduct is concerned. I agree with star on that note. Unless they are proven guilty/confess, I just don't see how the Duke lacrosse players could get lumped into this. Only thing to note is that, if those rape charges turn up false, then the Duke lacrosse players and that SDSU player will have one thing in common: Bad reputations. Pretend for a moment that the SDSU player didn't rape that woman. The process proceeds and the court case is heard out. Meanwhile the player's name and reputation is dragged through the mud on message boards, media outlets, on campus, etc. Then the player gets a not guilty verdict. Heck, let's say the accuser comes out and says outright that she made the whole thing up. Where does that put the SDSU player? It means that he doesn't have a criminal record, sure, but what about the ruling in the court of public opinion? He's no longer just an "SDSU player." He's now "the SDSU player that got off on that rape charge." If these players are guilty, let'em roast. If they're not, they'll get all the sympathy I can muster because their reputations and good name will still be shot.

That's too bad, but that's also Chicago. VERY isolated city. My brother lives there. When I went to the MCI Center to watch the Caps play the Wings, I had two people go out of their way to talk to me. THe first said that she watched the Frozen Four in Boston (IIRC where we lost to DU in the NC game). The second just yelled "GO SIOUX!"

Far be it from me to actually defend Kessel, but you have to look at the venue. This is the NHL draft, not the college draft. I don't think anyone should expect ANY prospect to say that it is their dream to play in anywhere BUT the NHL. I would have been more shocked if a player said, "Well, being drafted is really nice, but it always has been my dream to play college/major junior hockey so I guess we'll have to see what happens after I graduate/pass the age limit (major juniors)"

How about an autographed picture?

I wonder if they could set it up, would they make some sort of a provision to either have a free will donation box or charge a slight fee to peruse (if it is in a seperate room. All the funds raised in these methods going to scholarships for Native American students from the Sioux nation?
