Bolded the things I would have liked to have seen (I didn't get to watch or listen to the game today ). I'm happy Oshie got some assists. Maybe that will help him get over his slump? Kozek's 2 goals really are good to see, though I was competing in Tae Kwon Do today so I didn't hear any of the game (just the second period intermission). Martens must have had a really good game! Does anyone think he could be another Rory McMahon or Erik Fabian? Vandevelde, Forney, and Finley I just want to succeed badly. BTW- In the second TH said there was a "scrum." What was he talking about? And I'm very intolerant of giving up Shorties. How could you let 4 players beat you when you have 5 on the ice? I realize, according to Schlossman's blog, that the puck jumped over Chorney's stick, but that shows that we need to practice better passing. I don't think there is an excuse for giving up a shortie. Props to MSU for capitolizing on what HAD to be a sloppy play. Again, if it wasn't sloppy, it PROBABLY wouldn't have been even a shorthanded chance. P.S. I'm glad I was wrong when I said if the Mavs score 4 or more goals tonight we'd lose. But anyone want to put a guess as to how many times we can give up 5 goals in a period and still win the game from here on out? Do you think we could still win if we gave up 5 goals to UW in the 2nd after being up by 3? Sorry, no offense Mavs fans, but we got lucky this was the Mavs and not someone like Minnesota, UW, DU, or even SCSU. Let's stop playing like the 2nd period is the period that we can take the night off each night. I think we'd be better off that way.

Forgive me for not going back through this thread. I just got home. I listened to some of the first period (long enough for Chay to score his goal) but I missed the other two. What happened? We dominated the first period and then decided to let them back into the game? Do we have a quality second and third period in our boys? We can't rely on first periods because that gives the opponent two periods to one! I got the :21 2 goal thing from the box score... That's kinda sad. And TJ Oshie is snake bitten so I'm kinda wondering if he's a little shell shocked right now. After all, he should be leading the team with 7 or 8 goals for all the point blank or open opportunities he's missed. I'm just about as frustrated as he is well.... probably not, but I'm still frustrated! Let me say this, we can't expect to give up 4 goals a game and still win. Tommorrow, we'll need to try to play D AND score at the same time. No more 4 goals allowed. Let me say this for a doomsday prediction: If the Mavs score 4 tommorrow, I say the Sioux get an L on their record. Nice game by Miller though.

I agree 1,000%

As a matter of fact, that's basically what he did... although I don't think he picked up his teeth. He didn't miss a shift, though.

Nope. What happened to Baxter? (Just for cynnicism's sake, anyone wanna guess at what action Don Adam would have taken if he had been officiating this game? If you said 2 minute minor for cross checking, you'd probably be right! )

See Post #1778 and #1779 on this thread. Don't worry about it though. It looked REALLY bad. I saw the hit, so to speak. He took a stick blade in the mouth. I THINK it was Penguins defenseman Noah Welch who got him. He got a double minor for it. Of course, the Devils didn't convert. They really didn't look good that game at all.

Sorry. I editted it to make it a little better.

I guess I will have to disagree with you. If that is the case, what does it say about guys like Peter Armbrust or Ryan Hale. Of these two, only Peter Armbrust scored 10 goals in one season (his freshman season) Last year he was on the checking line. His freshman year he only put up 10 goals. During his sophomore year, he put up 12 goals. He put up 25 points his freshman year... and his junior year he only put up 22 points.... while commonly being on a line with Prpich and Fabian. OH! And another interesting factoid, Chris Porter has never been lower than 9th on the team in scoring. Oshie, Parise, and Bochenski comes along and suddenly if you don't score 20+ goals in a season, you suck. I guess I don't know what you expect from Porter. I think he's done just fine. However, it sure is nice that we have Hakstol behind the bench. We'd hardly have a team with some of these people that post on these boards. Floating up the river the past few years would be: Porter Watkins Kozek Smaby Greene Jordan Parise Phil Lamoureaux Jake Brandt Joe Finley Brian Lee Rylan Kaip Kyle Radke Prpich Am I missing anyone? EDIT: I will not back down from the point I was trying to make but I will take out a lot of the cynicism. I thought I went a little too far with it. My apologies iceberg and SS.com readers.

So now you are out to find something to do Friday night after the game?

I wonder if there are any topics where PCM cannot interject a smiley in on? And, as per usual, I object to Porter not being first or second line material. Porter has already had some REALLY good games this season even being called out on his great play over the radio by Hakstol himself. WHenever he comes up in conversation in an interview with a different player that player is always saying something good about Porter. Is Porter a top threat scoring talent? No. Not at all. But let me add an NHL "twist" to this. In Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin play on a line with Colby Armstrong. Yeah, last year (Colby's rookie season) he scored 16 goals and 24 assists, but that's HARDLY Malkin or Crosby type numbers. In fact, Armstrong isn't all that fast nor is he all that big time of a stick handler. What he DOES do well is grind away around the net and park himself in front of the net consistently. Don't you think Porter can leave all the fancy stick handling and the fast skating to Duncan and Oshie? He does have the grit and the grinding ability to head to the net all the time and he does have an OK shot to boot! The first line doesn't HAVE to be the fastest, best stick handling offensive talent on the team. We need some of that on the second line and fourth line as well! I think Porter would make a good fit on the first line for that reason. I think Porter could be a double digit scoring talent (like Armstrong) if used properly. He'll never lead the team in any offensive category. However, Hakstol said in this week's coach's show that they need to rely more on the work ethic of the team. From day 1 with the Sioux Porter has had one of the best work ethic on the team. Let's see what Duncan and Oshie can do for it!

Well, then. At least Gopher football players can win in the classroom. All they have to do is try! -

I guess they should be pleased that they have the best nerds Mason could recruit. Look, I would love to see an All Academic football team, but it really is a catch-22! If your team does well in the classroom but poorly on the field, why not convert those football scholies to academic scholies and just be happy? These guys weren't recruited because they're top notch academics. They were recruited because supposedly they could play football all the while qualifying for admission and, in all probability, be able to maintain their eligibility. Also, what makes you think they are performing well academically? Grades haven't even come out yet! I'll tell you what, though, when the grades do come out and there is a way to find out the team GPA after this first term, post it here. And if it is above 3.0 AS A TEAM, I will rescind every bad thing I've said about the Gopher football team and I will refrain from slighting them the remainder of the season. Until then, Mason sucks as a coach and that team sucks as a team. -
Well we have two forms of adversity here: Goal scoring drought and injuries to key players. Let's see if Forney can bring something. I like a Fabian-Martens-Forney line, though really, I'm not sure if that's a scoring line. As for Grieco and Walski, this is their big chance. Who will be the bona fide #2? If Walski gets the nod and plays well and Grieco gets the nod and plays subpar, it could really tell us what the pecking order is. No, even with the subpar play vs. Maine, I still think that Phil is the #1.

Are you implying that St. Cloud has a commissioner named Gordon and that he contacts Llama all the time at the Bat Cave?
-
Well a good showing by Anthony will really show us who he really is. Yeah, he did do pretty good vs Manitoba but really, they're a bunch of overage Canadians I wonder if FOrney will make his presence known on the first two lines or will he be a fourth liner?

Legally, I have no clue. I'm no lawyer. However, I can make a guess. My guess is that UND just wants to get the NCAA of its back and could really care less about the rest of the NCAA. After all, FSU and CMU and Utah got handled individually and their decisions held no affect on anyone else. Other colleges really have done nothing but stand back and watch and wait with what UND is doing. Perhaps Kupchella and gang decided that it is everyone for themselves and that's why?
-
No doubt. Anthony plays at least Friday.... Walski on Saturday. Wow. Goaltending depth tested early. I wonder why Phil isn't going?

At least Llamma sometimes says amusing things

I think the blame rests fully on Sid Hartman and Don Lucia.

1 is pertinent, the other should be mandatory for all NCAA schools. I don't see how that affects the fact that the Gophers aren't fundamentally sound. They can't RUN, they can't TACKLE... how does going to class affect that? -
You're clouding the issue...
