Killed it off but barely. SCSU looks to have a decent powerplay. We don't. SCSU penalty for slashing on a 2 one 1 break.
-
Fabian took a dumb penalty. We do NOT look sharp.

Crickets are chirping....

Well, here's hoping for the Sioux.

You are out of control.... At least it is entertaining (btw- I do like a song by Montgomery Gentry... )
-
I guess he likes to be on time and the job done right. (If Toby wrote that song for Ford, then Ford shouldn't have accepted it. I don't think it is relevant in the slightest). Sic- You are just one big Toby Keith advertisement

The WCHA is only 1 for 3 in points of emphasis. They follow the checking from behind one (most of the time) and ignore the obstruction and diving ones. I guess Robbie Earl added more to the game that the WCHA could bear to take away if they started calling diving. I know this is anti-UND to say, but after seeing it last night, if I were Motzko, I'd tell my players to embellish at will. If they aren't going to call diving, may as well use it to your advantage, no? Yup. He was obviously trying to get his neighbor to stop cheering so they can stare wontingly at Casey Borer

Chris wears a 40 pound belt buckle and watches NASCAR at every opportunity? Well, regardless, my point then was valid, at least about that dumb Tim McGraw song.

Daiakia880- First, I'm not going to claim this is what Gary thinks, but I think it is a possibility (as out there as it may be): I've seen people of minority who feel entitled in everything they undertake because they feel they are doing their small part to pave the way for others of their minority. This, in itself, is alright I guess. I don't think any minority should be held on the outside looking in, but when times get tough for these people, they will make attempts to remedy the situation and, if that remedy is unsatisfactory, they will lump it into a smiliar sort of persecution that plagued their race some amount of years in the past (depending upon the minority in question). Sure, that's despicable and unfair, but think of this: It is how they are raised. If Native American children are being raised to believe that all the white people think they are inferior and bad people, stupid people, or are out looking for an excuse to lock the reservations back up, how do you suppose they will react towards institutions brought upon by what they consider a "white man's government" such as education, employment, and so on? They grow up only being able to handle criticism by Native Americans on Native American issues. If a White person happens to criticise them or place them in a challenging situation it isn't like it is if that person was white (in which case it would be called "life") it is persecution. That's why the best numbers of high school graduation rates are below 55% in most states (perhaps even all states), why unemployment and crime is so high in the reservation and among Native Americans outside of the reservation. White persecution of the Native Americans DID happen, but it really has stopped (except for the rare isolated incident here and there) in the past 40 years. Right now, they are living a self-fulfilled prophecy. Their plight is truly sad because if they truly did stand up and say "I'm going to move beyond perceptions and succeed regardless of what happens to me" I think they'd be better off, even if that success is only limited to what they do on the reservation. Now, there are Native Americans who have succeeded in life and have good, healthy attitudes both towards their own people and towards the rest of humanity, but there are simply not enough of them. And I don't know what we can do to help remedy this since White people are not trusted at best.

JFR- Louisville looked not just good, but dominant. It already is making me nervous for Rutgers.
-
Gosh, it was a game that took place in 1997. I don't remember the opponent but the school I was at (the one that lost) was Northland Community and Technical College of Thief River Falls, MN. No offense to those from TRF or Michael Forney, but living in TRF was 2 of the worst years of my life.

Can only 10 do this topic justice? I think we should start maybe 25 more. That or perhaps have the crowd audience be sponsored by Cease Funeral Home of Park Rapids, MN

1) He did not seem to stiff to me, but I missed the first period. Maybe he was tentative then? If he was indeed stiff, he still had a good night. 2) They didn't look too slow in the 2nd period and up to the point where Porter scored his goal. They seemed to be downright dominating at times. And I don't think SCSU had much success other than the last part of the 3rd period. Even their goal was a result of a flukey turnover and not dominating play. 3) They aren't dives if the official doesn't call it. WCHA doesn't call diving as a stand alone penalty. This is nothing new. Expect more diving tonight from SCSU. No, not saying SCSU is necessarily that cheap, but if you figure out you can dive and get away with it, what's to make you stop? 4) and 5) Agreed. I think my apartment neighbors think I'm crazy because of the yell I let out when Oshie scored. Grieco looked REALLY impressive. I was VERY impressed. 6) I agree, but one thing I notice this year is that this team seems to play a VERY aggressive offensive style. WHen that is the case, with the D running up into the play, I think there are going to be more odd man rushes. THat being said, SCSU only scored on a turnover that resulted in an odd man rush. Toews fell down (did anyone see this? The camera angle made it appear that an SCSU player got him on the skate and tripped him up) and that sparked the odd man rush. That being said, I think the PK's success needs to continue more than an increased prevention of odd man rushes. We seem to have fairly good success in stopping those. 7) I agree for the most part. I think Vandevelde tried hard, but he was really ineffective because he didn't use his size to take the puck to the inside. He made his one shot from the boards just in front of the red line. Not many goals are going to go in at that angle. 8) Agreed 9) Some of that was timely defense by SCSU. Others was just slow reaction (Miller's 3rd period opportunity). Now, in MIller's case, I have to stipulate that Miller had VERY little time to get the shot off and he couldn't do it. It was a great chance, but one that I didn't feel too badly about not working. Our Power Play in the 2nd period was good. OUr PP in the 3rd period was not so much. 10) I think this was a good win. Yes, Grieco was the best player on the ice for the Sioux, but I don't think they played too poorly. That being said, a good recap.
-
My mistake. Regardless of who said it, it was pretty funny.
-
Staring blankly at the ice while the person next to you did all the cheering I believe it was right before the second period began while they were playing that song where the students chant "HEY Go SIoux!"
-
Humorous TV moment of the 2nd and 3rd period: Scanlan's calling of the PP that ended the game. Porter, sitting in the penalty box, evidentally ran out into the concourse, around to the Sioux bench, switched into a Grieco jersey, donned his pads, and switched with Greico in the speed of light with enough time to make possibly the save of the night! I love it when guys are so new that they can't distinguish between a skater and a goaltender in the thick of things. If he had called Grieco Lamoureaux, it would have just been a shoulder shrugger if you will.
-
Toews had a 2 point night tonight, but that's as close as it got.
-
I missed the first period, hence why my commentary is so short. If that was the case, though, perhaps I should add "The 2nd Period" to the "Good" list?
-
Only limited commentary tonight. I think dagies and PCM do better recaps anyways. The Good: 1. Sioux PK 2. Grieco 3. Brian Lee 4. DOT line (all players involved) 5. Taylor Chorney The "Bad" Ok, not a lot of bad things, just not great things: 1. PP got progressivly not as good as the game wore on. Especially when it comes to passing. 2. Blame me if you want, but I don't think Fabian had a very good game. He wasn't "bad" but he wasn't good either. 3. The camera work at times. During the third period, the camera went purple some times (Why does that happen? Anyone know?) and once the camera man must not have been told he was on because he stopped following the puck. The "Ugly" 1. 8 penalties, some of them BAD. 2. Diggler's mug on the screen.
-
Grieco is the PS Doors player of the game. I don't blame the pick. WOW! When the PK is working, he can play!!!
-
SIOUX WIN!!! Hey, who wants Walski NOW? Yeah, I thought so.
-
Porter called for hooking. It was hooking but Stephenson did agood job of embelishing.
-
Miller with the best chance on that power play. Nearly another SH op for SCSU.
-
Wow, what an obvious penalty on SCSU. Nice kill by the Sioux.
-
Wow did Grieco get lucky. I'd like to see a different angle on that. Did he get anything on it?
