Zajac goes for holding.

Duncan really did a good job to set it up. Toews' pass didn't look that sharp but a good rebound off of Goepfert was just what Oshie needed. I hope that knocks Oshie out of his schneid.

OSHIE FROM TOEWS!!!!

Nothing on that Power play. In fact, it looked pretty darn awful.
-
Best opportunity on the Power Play... Oh wait.. it was by SCSU. Nice save by SCSU. SHort circuit to UND: You have 5 men on the ice, they have 4. Let's use that to our advantage.
-
SUper obvious SCSU penalty right there. Fabian's hurt.
-
Real weak goal. Right from inside the blue line.

Our D is playing pretty well. Lots of pressure. I love how Genoway is playing too.
-
Why? Is someone going to hold Joe's arms at his sides like Campion did?

Just Curious- Although I haven't seen much NAHL games, only a few F-M Jets games, I agree with you. That being said, there have been some really good players that have come from the NAHL such as Ryan Miller and Maine's goaltender Bishop. So you never know, and that's one of the things that hurts the NAHL. With the USHL, the reputation of the league makes you believe that the players on a USHL team are really standout players compared to players from the NAHL, COJHL, EJHL, AtJHL, and so on. When players go to these other leagues you don't know if their production is a result of talent or the league's competition. That's really where a coach's recruiting ability gets tested, imo. I think every coach can see the talent of a Toews, Okposo, Erik Johnson, and so on, but how can a DI recruiter tell about a guy who plays in a league like the NAHL as to what his potential is? That's why it is always impressive to see successful players from "lesser" leagues to me because it seems like they are more of the "diamond in the rough." One thing you did say regarding Fox was something I'd think would be a HUGE warning flag for DI recruiters. Fox allegedly stated he had trouble adapting to the speed of the game. Playing time is one thing, I can understand going from the USHL to the NAHL if it means more playing time, but if he can't adapt to the speed of the USHL game, what makes a DI recruiter believe he could adapt to the DI game? As to Robby Phillipp and those Wisconsin players, I don't know much about them. I haven't been to a Jets game this season thus far.

I kinda like the fact that Genoway seems to be just as good at forward as he is a defense. This guy can truly be a lifesaver in several situations such as: 1. Injury relief at any position save goaltender. 2. Taking up the slack should a player get ejected for some reason. I don't know about his lockerroom behavior, but in 2 to 3 seasons, I wonder if he'll be wearing a letter on his jersey?

Daiakia- You're right, I was there when the Canadians played at the Ralph and they WERE loud, but they were some of the most obscene fans I've ever seen in my life! That being said, I've been at a few games at the NEW Ralph that were just as loud. I seem to recall (IIRC) the Friday game a few years back against BC where we found ourselves down 4-2 and we came back to win 6-4. The Ralph was ABSOLUTELY SHAKING. We could debate this forever, but we have a thread like this almost 4 times a year now. I think we need to focus on other matters really.

I'd be interested in knowing if there is any documented cases within the past 7 years (meaning beginning of the 1999-2000 school year) that show proof that it causes a harrassing atmosphere? Some things in this regard: Point 1: Documented means UND Police, GF Police, or some official organization such as the UND Housing Office people (or wherever Sioux-cia was sent to report things) have an OFFICIAL complaint somewhere in their files. It doesn't mean convictions or even arrests, but complaints. Point 2: The argument seems to take on a different form entirely. Some people are claiming they are being harrassed because they want the nickname changed. This is being confused with being harrassed because you are Native American. Lately, they are being used to mean the same thing. Sorry, folks, that isn't kosher. These types of reports don't count. Point 3: What it is coming down to is heresay. He said she said in other words. What does that mean, in essence? I could claim that Person X beat the junk out of me one autumn day for whatever reason and I could claim it was because I was Jewish. Whose to say I'm telling the truth? Then again, who's to say I'm lying? There's no definitive proof. That's why Point 1 exists. Heresay is irrelevant. And so are the excuses people could give for NOT reporting the incidents to the authorities. Idealistically, a crime is a crime, but in today's world, a crime is only a crime if you are caught or it is reported, and if the crime is severe enough, tried and convicted. That's the only proof that matters. The rest is just, for all extensive purposes, fantasy.

Question for you then: If this is the case, should the NHL take steps to prevent teams that have enforcers who cause too many injuries? Sure, most fights don't result in serious injury (serious here defined as any injury that causes a player to miss 1 game or more), but what about those enforcers that DO injure other players? Because that enforcer was playing by that "unwritten code" and the other player "was asking for it" that means we shrug and move on? Do you HONESTLY think Fedoruk was asking to be injured? Sure, he was obviously wanting to fight, I'll grant you that, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt he was asking to be injured. Please don't lump injuries that are a result of fighting in the same crowd as "Injuries are part of the game" because that's just not true! A big check into the boards that results in injury happens, THAT is part of the game. However, fighting is a voluntary (unless you are demanded to do so by the "unwritten code") action and, though it is accepted as "part of the game," could be avoided and not unduly harm the game. I don't believe that a fight is harmful to the game until it becomes an overriding concern in how the game is played. I don't think a team should have to fear the other based upon how strong their goon is. I don't think a player should have to go out onto the ice and fear that, if I don't do things just right, I'm going to get my face pounded in. This isn't part of the game! Fear of fighting is one thing, but fear of fighting because you might get horrifically injured like Fedoruk is ENTIRELY another thing entirely.

80-7 I haven't seen a score that bad since a tech school I was at lost 79-0! Rumor had it by the 4th Quarter, they were taking people out of the stands to play the game!

Hak said Kaip was probably a no-go for Friday, Phil a no-go for the weekend, and Jon may be back after all. If Toews is back, that's GREAT news! Question is: Where would you put him in the lines? Back on the first line with Oshie and DUncan? Or would you put him on the second line with Miller (has to be moved there) and Porter? If Toews is back, here's what I'd expect: Oshie-Toews-Duncan Miller?-Watkins-Porter Fabian-Zajac-Kozek Bishop/Vandevelde-Martens-Forney Ok, honestly speaking, I'm not sure what the order would be on the 2nd and 4th lines. I don't know if Porter, Miller, Bishop, Forney, or Vandevelde are left wings. I know that both Martens and Vandevelde have played center in the past, but I don't know if Zajac has. Maybe Zajac moves to LW on the 4th line and Vandevelde moves up to center the 3rd line?

Figuring it out now by looking at his past would mean he's actually utilizing that 8 year in coming degree in History

Oh no... not a mullet!!!

Actually, I think both Daiakia and PCM have made very valid points. Both have expressed themselves very well and, though I cannot find a reason to agree with Daiakia, I think he's done a better job of expressing the opposing opinion than many who have tried (in various subjects) in the past. Did Daia get my anger flowing? At times he did. But I think, overall, it's a quality debate. That being said, I STILL agree with PCM.

THESE are the unwritten rules I'm familiar with.
