  1. We need to add Hextall here too, ya know!
  2. Sorry to break up the topic thread but this HAS to be said: ND Pride- THANK YOU for posting those tidbits on individual teams. As someone trying to get "into" the high school game, they really help get an idea of teams around the state. I appreciate it. Thank you.
  3. DaveK- It's nice to know that someone appreciates the worthless Bowls like the Insight or Music City Bowls. If the Bowl system wasn't so overbloated, they still would have only gone to 3 bowl games in the past. 7-5 records worthy of a bowl berth? Please. Just because you make it to a Bowl game doesn't make you a "good" coach. There are 145,000 Bowl games. So many, in fact, that it is really difficult to NOT get an invite if you finish with a record above .500. Sorry, Mason is, at best, a mediocre coach. A slight improvement to his predecessor.

    buckysieve = Frank Masucko?
  5. SIoux_Yeah_Yeah- Nice comments! A few responses: First, watching it on TV, the Sioux were very fast, or at least faster than Wisconsin on Friday night Periods 1,2, and OT. Saturday we weren't as fast... or Wisconsin was just as fast, I don't know. I hate saying this, but Oshie's shot did not go in. The replay they showed on TV was a GREAT camera angle and it clearly hit the corner of the pipe and bounced out. It had everyone fooled until it was reviewed. I agree about Finley... but I actually think he played better than "alright" this weekend (with the exception of the mistake he made on Saturday). YaneA- I always thought of the Kohl as a "model" institution as far as fan atmosphere, but this "Sue is a -----" Chant really gets my goat! I'm not too bothered by the "racist mascot" chant because that just shows ignorance. UND doesn't have a mascot. PCM- I'm in awe of your power over the smilies.
  6. Didn't this guy also coach Fargo North last year? Or am I thinking of a different guy?
  7. I didn't have much expectations for the team against UMD, but I was hoping that we'd at least score a goal per game! UMD made us look like the men's AIC team
  8. If Michigan and Minnesota are "good" enough to have goaltending coaches, what do you all think of getting Ron Hextall to be a goaltending coach for the Sioux?
  9. From what I've read, they are a team that plays a similar defensive style to that of Wisconsin. Plus, their goaltender (Bishop) is a combination of mammoth size (6'7" ) and skill. They don't have a whole ton of scoring talent, but they do have some good stick handlers on their team. If we play with a tempo and a team speed like we played last Friday night, I think we can beat Maine. But if we try to play their game style, it could be a long night. Pontificating even further, I don't anticipate this series to be a high scoring one either. Flying Blind Assumption: From what I've heard, Maine fans are an extremely classy bunch. I hope we treat those that come the same.
  10. Bah! Truth be told, I haven't watched much NHL the past few seasons (not counting the lockout year). I'm not sure I know much about this Red Wings team now that my man Stevie Y is gone. I guess I like the college game better... Or maybe I'm used to living in places that doesn't carry many NHL games (I can't get Versus on my cable provider). And the Mild are 5-0! The whole NHL world is on its end right now.
  11. Nah. The Madison newspaper will make tonights win look like it's some sort of redemption or revenge. Or maybe they won one for the boys that couldn't play.
  12. That's a great piece of writing. Unfortunately, I don't evaluate hockey teams by "hottie to not hottie" ratios
  13. Don't forget Duncan's shot that beat Elliott, but to the wrong side. It went through Elliott and laid nicely against the outside of the net next to the post.
  14. :shrugs: I'm easy to hate, I guess.
  15. I can't remember where, but I seem to recall something similar happening to Greene at one point....
  16. Disagree. Tonight was a bad night for them. They couldn't seem to tell Fabian and Finley apart and I don't know why they can't pronounce Genoway correctly. Tonight they talked more about UW because, let's face it, the Sioux played UW's type of game. Our D and goaltending was stellar tonight. I mean, it took a TURNOVER for them to score. Most of the time, it's just skill and putting the puck where the goaltender isn't. I was impressed with Lammy. And I can't take anything away from Elliott either. Not a good Saturday by anymeans for Sioux athletics. Let's look ahead to Maine. Oh, and ABTG, please change your butchering of Saggissor's name. I find that offensive. Thanks.
  17. I agree as well. Anyone else think that I'm wrong? Oshie is snake bitten. That's at least 6 goals for him this season... oh wait... Gosh, though, if everyone's going to blame a single player for every loss this season, then well, I'd hate to be that person. Finley should just quit hockey and move to Timbuktu because there's no way the Sioux will recover after Joudrey (or whomever) managed to jump into the path of his pass. But hey, I can also blame Duncan for not scoring on clearly a golden opportunity.. Or maybe Oshie for not scoring when he had Elliott beat? Guys, hate to break this to you, but we're not going to win every hockey game this season. We gave up ONE LOUSY GOAL. I'd be more upset if we gave up 4. The Badgers got lucky today, it's plainly as simple as that.
  18. Exactly! The Badgers now have an idea of the Sioux playing style and will try to make whatever adjustments that can be made in a 24 hour period. They will play a more uptempo game tonight that's for sure. We need to be prepared and start taking it to them EARLY in the game. And you can bet Elliott will be on his game tonight. He wasn't exactly "off" it last night to begin with.

You are arguing a point that I don't think anyone is arguing against. I don't see what's the problem with Flynn standing up for Carmen or Donohoe standing up for his goaltender either. I don't see why Lucia can't be proud of it either. However, Lucia has gone on record stating that, whenever things like this has happened to his team (Team A knocks Briggs/Gophre goaltender down while "crashing the net", Gopher D retaliates, Team A takes exception) Lucia always seemed to speak poorly of the Team A in my scenario. I agree that Lucia should be proud that his team is showing chemistry, but he should be the last one to complain if his opposing team shows they have chemistry in a similar fashion against the Gophers. That's what I'm saying. And so far, I don't see Lucia being able to do that.

It might help you to watch the game a little. I mean, I know I've been wrong a time or two, but what you are saying is simply unbelievable. In all deference to all who responded to this comment, the only hit that got close to what Fire Helmet guy has said is the hit Porter put on KLUBERTANZ, not Carlson. I read that Carlson's injury was a result of getting tangled up by his skate or his skate caught in a stick or something. Porter's check on Klubertanz was legal and it was NOT a knee-to-knee hit. If it was, that I'd surely expect Porter to have gone to the box. Regardless of who initiated the check, the contact was made thigh to thigh. And I know this is merely tit for tat, but the rules state knee to knee is a no-no, not necessarily thigh to thigh. A loophole? Quite possibly. However, for now, it was legal. I didn't like the hit, myself, but it wasn't bush league by any means. And as for the Bina hit, which commentators were you listening to? I didn't get the Sioux Radio's take on it or CSTV's take on it. I didn't get UW Radio's take on it. But I did get FSN's take on it and they only said it was a hit from behind. A replay of the one Bina was penalized for clearly showed that Bina elbowed the guy and not checked him from behind. A good call by Shepherd, for sure. But seriously, you need to take off your maroon and gold glasses if you think that what happened last night with Carmen and Flynn was "ok" and yet when it happens to your team it's suddenly not ok. That's the whole contention behind Lucia. Not that the Gophers are really Bush League.
  21. I hope Mason was taking notes Wait, who am I kidding. If Mason were head coach of the Gopher Hockey team, the Gophers would be about as good as UMD or CC year in and year out. You know, not bad enough to be last place but will never be burdened by being #1 either. I agree with you Goon, about the second line. They've been producing, but most of it has been done rather quietly. I mean, Zajac bursts onto the scene with 2 goals and then the game winner. Porter has been playing LIGHTS OUT lately. When you have a guy who is playing probably the best hockey of his career (or at least his DI career) it tends to drown out the linemates. I think that's what is happening to Watkins and Kozek. As for Genoway, I've been reading a few posts here and there and brianvf got me thinking about that fourth line. Specifically the position of Center. Among those listed as probable fourth liners are: Forney Miller Martens Genoway Bishop Zajac Vandevelde Of those listed, we've only seen Martens and Genoway play center. Genoway can play center but is mainly a defenseman. That leaves us really with a ? at 4th line Center. I'd LOVE a line of Miller-Bishop-Vandevelde (Zajac's gotta move up to the third line I think), but I don't think any of those three are centers.

Ppsssst! Carmen and Flynn are forwards! Anyways, I agree with dagies. You can't have it both ways. If you are happy that this play happened, then you can't stand up and speak ill of the opposing team doing the same to you. Donohoe's action was simply standing up for his goaltender (Carmen ran the goaltender, which is really something that the Gophers have done a lot of in recent years) and Flynn came in to stand up for Carmen. There are things I didn't like in this play (especially the running of the goaltender). I certainly hope Carman sat for doing that. But the rest of the play (Donohoe and then Flynn's reaction) should have been anticipated. I don't care too much about those actions. I just have no tolerance for running the goaltender. I think it should be enforced with as much vigor as the checking from behind penalty (without the 5 minutes and misconduct aspect).
  23. dagies- The Porter hit was shown on replay on TV. It was a thigh to thigh check. It definitely wasn't knee to knee (which is a penalty). I couldn't tell if Porter lifted his leg into the check or whether or not it was mostly hip or whatever. It also did not look like Klubertanz was all that injured because the camera caught him standing up and looking around for the ref and he did return late in the game. If anything, I suspect he has a nice bruise there. I guess I don't know how one can get a bruise and the other can skate on without much trouble? They both hit in the same spot but only Klubertanz seemed to get injured. Didn't see the Carlson hit. I don't remember who corralled Skille, but I suspect it was Zach Jones. He basically was leaning against Skille's left side as Skille was trying to push Jones off of him. Finley comes in out of nowhere and hunched down to take a shoulder on shoulder hit on Skille. Skille and Jones are so close together that the momentum from the hit twists Skille into Jones and his right arm out, across, and away from his body. I can't tell if it was a shoulder or an elbow injury but he was hanging his shoulder down low when he left the ice. Blind guess means dislocated shoulder. Finley got a mammoth hit on Skille at the "right" angle to produce an injury. Finley was definitely not headhunting. I guess if SHepherd did feel bad for Skille he probably could have called a charging minor on Finley, but that's just pulling a Don Adam and making it up as I go. Dagies- I'm not sure I agree entirely with your assessment of Chorney. He did fall down a bit, but he really did a good job in the offensive zone. He nearly beat Elliot backhand from between the faceoff circles at one point. What I am interested in is this: There were two breakaways (one failed - no shot) and several odd man rushes in the 2nd and 3rd period. Did anyone catch who got beat in order for these events to take place?
  24. Thanks.... I think. Shawn-O- Thanks. xxxwhatever - You know what? Put me on ignore. I don't care. Just do me a favor and stop insulting other posters. If I am wrong, tell me I'm wrong and where I erred. I'll admit fault. I have in the past. But if the point of your post is to simply put me down, then I suggest you simply ignore my posts and save yourself the "aggravation" and the rest of us posters the pettiness.

Especially now that Finley is starting to play more of the body.... Woooo not a good thing if you are an opponent... unfortunately speaking, just ask Jack Skille.
