Good idea. If someone wants to be seen as a classy individual, then maybe that person should act with class? I can't understand how she can put that stuff on her blog and say such mean things in a generalizing method and then expect us to respect her wishes when she claims that what we've responded to such stuff as being harmful to what she is doing? She didn't blog "I don't like the Sioux." Something like that isn't hardly worth responding to. She went on a lengthy diatribe stating how "all" Sioux fans are this and that and that they shouldn't come to Mankato and all these veiled threats (of what I don't know) and overt insults that are stated with a healthy dose of cynnicism and derisiveness. I think, Goon, you should email her back and state you will take down her link when and only when a full retraction to what has been said has been stated on the blog and submitted via email to your blog regarding what has been said. There's no such thing as a private blog, is there? And perhaps she should be more careful about saying things on a public blog that could come back to bite her in the backside. She wants respect. We all do. Problem is, you have to earn it. She didn't earn our respect. Why should we give it to her freely?

But you assume that, because there are some people at the Englestad who are only there to watch the game, not become rabid fans, dictate the whole of the Fighting Sioux fanbase. I don't claim to know everything about hockey. I don't know everything about hockey, but I know what I'd like to see and I know which opinions I agree with. Because I voice those opinions, I guess, makes me clueless and uneducated. Because I have never played hockey makes me unqualified. Gosh, fandom needs to be regulated if that's the case. Too many people are calling themselves fans of sports when they aren't qualified to be one!

Dartmouth Tournament? Anybody Making the Trip To Hanover, NH
redwing77 replied to AussieSiouxFan's topic in Men's Hockey
Don't make any firm plans for Dartmouth then. According to ESPN, Rutgers has clinched a bowl berth. What Bowl is yet to be determined but you guys are going to a Bowl game this year. The Sioux are often out east playing a series but Rutgers isn't often in a quality bowl game. If it were a choice I was going to make, I'd go with the Bowl game. You can catch us later by flying to Grand Forks and watching a game at the Ralph -

Awards sure are nice, but because they don't win them doesn't mean they had a bad weekend. TH was saying Kozek was fabulous last Saturday. -
I said that earlier and apparently I was told that wasn't his intent. I'm not a fan of the comment you've quoted, but I guess it all comes down to interpretation. And I still agree with PCM. Fighting isn't out of control in the NHL, but the whole concept that fighting eliminates all wrong doings made by the players on the ice is simply assinine to me. What are the refs doing while this is going on? Triouxper is right. Fighting doesn't eliminate cheap shots. I'd argue that it doesn't lessen them that much either. But Daiakia's argument only works if the team whose fighter is fighting on behalf of the person who HAS been cheap shot wins the fair fight and even then, it's not a sure thing it will end.

Add "Potato" in front of that and we're talkin'!

As a former resident in the University Apartment community, it saddens me to see that those people were brainwashed enough to elect LaPointe. And, before anyone calls me on it, it has nothing to do with ethnicity. It has everything to do with what a position on the Senate is supposed to entail. He's not on the Student senate to represent HIS viewpoint. He's on the Senate to represent his constituency. Did the UA community vote in favor of opposing the nickname? If that was a campaign platform and the community was behind it, fine. But if this was one of those things that he did an "oh by the way" once elected, then shame on him! And, sorry again, if LaPointe truly is GK, then the claim that it wasn't a publicity stunt doesn't hold a lot of water. If LaPointe truly was as harrassed as he claims he has been, I'm POSITIVE he wouldn't have even applied here for grad school if he went here for undergrad and if he didn't go here for undergrad, then I'm certain he would have left soon after he began. The fact that he was active simply means that he's an activist type mentality. That's fine. Good for him. But he is what I'd term as a borderline hostile activist. He's not completely hostile as he hasn't resorted to violence, but he's borderline because he will use identity theft and turnabout methods (This is racist so I'm going to treat you like racists by being racist right back) to try to prove his point. It never fails me to read commentary where, just because you disagree with a minority, it makes you a racist. If people put their ethnicity before an issue, even if the issue may have something to do with the ethnicity, there really isn't any room for discussion or compromise. If the majority comes forward and states their views, that only makes them more racist. It appears to be the minority's way or the highway, if the majority wishes not to be racist. And that seems hostile and abusive to me.

Hmmm... true... but They gave up considerable yardage on kickoff returns as well. I mean, don't get me wrong, kickoff returns only happen at the beginning of the game, the beginning of the 2nd half, and whenever a team scores, so as long as RU is scoring I guess it makes less difference (especially if RU gets the ball back on a turnover 3 downs later), but big special teams plays can make or break the team.

I agree with Goon and AZSioux. I would LOVE to see these ladies in the Green and White, but I highly doubt it. We're too new to the scene and we're not winning games. We have a great facility but that's it right now. We are a team that, if converted to men's basketball, would be Kobe Bryant's dream as Kobe would be the ONLY star on the team... unfortunately the same would be true for the Lamoureaux sisters if they came here. The current batch of ladies have potential, sure, but I don't think they'll ever be game breakers like those who suit up for UMD, UMN, and UW. I just hope they stay in the WCHA. That way we can at least see them when their team comes to town.

JFR- Watched some of the game. You guys best shore up that special teams play. UCONN got several great runbacks on the kickoffs (even though one was brought back on a holding call). Your D was very good. UCONN would move the ball ok and then 3rd down would come and they'd cough it up. Nice. Next up, Louisville. And Louisville isn't going to cough it up as much as UConn. Good luck.

I see. Obviously I misread his intent. I'll delete the post. My apologies Daiakia880

I'm just impressed that we're getting recruits from all over the place. Soon, we'll have players from as far east as New Brunswick and Connecticut, from as far South as Georgia, and from as far west as California and Alaska! So much for just the usual of High School, USHL, and BCHL recruiting triangles.

Brad Miller WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
redwing77 replied to hockeydog's topic in Men's Hockey
Congrats Brad. Can't really argue with any of the selections this week. Didn't notice Shelast when I did my "unofficial" tally. I figured Goligoski would get the nod over Lee even though both had the same point total for the weekend. Variety is the key. And why be disgusted by Okposo's selection? He scored a lot for a freshman this weekend. Seemed like a no brainer to me. -
I won't quote PCM's long post, but I agree completely. Idealistically speaking, if the officials call the game like it is supposed to be called, cheap shots would get punished accordingly so goons wouldn't be necessary. So, fighting is allowed to compensate. Doesn't that sound just downright sad? Seriously, the NHL has the best quality of officiating this side of the ocean (stated because I have yet to see European hockey officials). Why do they need vigilante-ism on the ice? OH, and don't give me the BS about how Boogaard tried to skate away and not fight Fedoruk. Let's face it, if Boogaard REALLY didn't want to fight him, he could have simply skated away to the bench and that would have been that. And, more than likely, Fedoruk would have been penalized for roughing or something akin to that. Don't give me the other BS called "Unwritten code." That is like an unwritten policy. An unwritten policy is unenforceable because it is up to the interpretation of whomever is under the influence of said policy. Unwritten codes are the same way. Therefore, if it is unwritten, there is no code. Period. I know I'd fail in the NHL as a head coach because I wouldn't waste a roster slot on an enforcer. Period.

Heisenberg lists Kristo as a 2009 recruit.

Can't they keep warm enough by skating hard?

Silly Kaip, kicking Maine's backside was more of a metaphor! It wasn't meant literally!

Same here. I loved JPar as a goaltender but it's interesting to read all the comments about how suddenly JPar was a game stealing goaltender when, while he was here (even during his last year here) people were wishing they'd have a more game stealing goaltender... and calling for Phil to step in. The fact is, the only game stealing goaltender we've had in the last 10 years was Goehring. JPar was good, but he didn't control the game like Karl did. That being said, I'm not going to give up on Phil either. I think he can be an effective goaltender even if he won't put up the same numbers as goaltenders past. Likewise, Grieco is new to the program, had his first two starts ON THE ROAD (which is never easy regardless of the opponent). I haven't seen Grieco live yet (haven't even listened to a game with him playing). But one thing I AM in favor of is a rotation in this case. One of the only downfalls of a #1 goaltender system is the potential for complacency. Hak's (and BLais') rotation system made it such that one goaltender played one game and the other the next, unless one goaltender had a great game in which he'd be rewarded with the Saturday game (or Saturday to Friday). This means that the Saturday goaltender HAS to play well or he could lose a game or two to the Friday goaltender or vice versa if that goaltender plays well. It also gives experience to the "backup" and rest to the "starter." I can understand why Hak went with Phil vs. Maine and UW. I can even understand if he goes with Phil again vs UW and vs UMN. But I think vs. teams like DU, CC, UMD, MSUM, MTU, UAA, and even SCSU, I think there should be a rotation. I could even make the argument to have the rotation in all non conference games and allow Grieco and Walski to be the sole go to guys for exhibition games (especially Walski). Regardless of what ACTUALLY happens, I think I'm just going to put my trust in Hakstol's decisions and root for the team regardless.

That's what I feel is the most likely order of probability. I don't know why I feel this way about our best chance in being Gregoire, but I just have a hunch that Nash is going to join his brother in Cornell and Bruneteau is going to go to UW (I can't even tell you why I think that!). I don't know what will happen, but my gut has never been right before! (My gut last told me that Kessel was going to Michigan).
-
What I'd love to see is the stats (GAA, Save% W-L Record) of Jordan Parise's, Karl Goehring's, Aaron (sp?) Schweitzer's, and the remainder of our NC winning (or winningest) goaltenders and compare them to Grieco's first two games that counted. I mean, he is 17, this was his first two starts that counted in an arena that hasn't really been friendly to UND in the past. I wonder if some of us aren't being a little too harsh on Grieco.
-
I agree, but there is cause for optimism, mikejm. IIRC, Jonathon Toews was all but wrapped up as "going to the WHL" at one point. I love that he committed, but he's only 16. I really think what happens this season will determine whether or not he dresses as a Sioux. Remember, Sam Gagner spent a year in the USHL, evidentally didn't like it, and went to the OHL thereafter. Another thing is that the Q isn't as "polite" as even the WHL and OHL (including Red Deer and London). This may simply be posturing by Cichy to "get a better deal" from the Q.

Nothing really, but Saigo's leaving makes academia more attractive at SCSU seeing how there's going to be one less loon in the loony bin.
-
I think UW will land Bruneteau. That's just my hunch. As for Gregoire, I dunno. He could end up at UND or UW, or he could pull a Jordy Christian and land in St. Cloud. Scoff if you will, but Motzko's legit. I think SCSU will start looking REALLY good to recruits now that Saigo is retiring and Motzko is head coach.
