I agree that Brungard should have won POY but system quarterback at NDSU. System QB's at FCS schools usually don't end up in the NFL and Payton is a different breed of QB from the "system" QB's they have had. Reminds me of when one of the idiots(Tommy Olson?) on the KFAN morning show said that Mitch Leidner from the Gophers would have been in the NFL if he had played at NDSU. I believe he won the preposterous statement tournament that year or at least made a deep run.

Which one? There were two obvious targeting penalties to the head that didn't draw a flag. Got speared in the facemask on first one in live action play and got a shoulder and elbow to back of head after he was down on the second one.

Timing of that is somewhat determined by conference schedule. USD chose to play their 12th game early in the season while UND and NDSU for example had open weeks in September while USD played straight through.

If that is the rule then so be it. When he released the ball, he released the ball back towards our goal line while moving in the direction of the NDSU goal line. Physics will keep the ball moving horizontally for a bit before it moves to the ground. I would say since the ball was released in opposite direction he was headed that would make sense......but I can understand the interpretation the officials made though
