Incredible, elite offensive talent. No need for me to argue against that. He's not a good defensive player, or at least he's not trying to be one, I guess. He's also apparently not the best teammate nor a wonderful person, based on what I've heard. We can let this one go, it's fine. Honestly not trying to be argumentative or "go against the grain" as you put, but I don't miss the kid on our team. It's that simple. LOL I cannot confirm, nor deny.

I don't think it's crazy to assume he'd be comparable to those two, at all. He's just 17 and Bubs and Co. have determined he was behind them in the race to get to the ice. I hate losing him, but Spicer made his choice. I'm sure UND did their best to convince him, but he made his call.

Yeah, I never thought of it as a guarantee as I think that would be silly and poor form. They very likely tell him, and other recruits, a window when they'd like them to be ready. They disagreed. And here we are.

I'd be willing to bet that UND was never telling him he was 100% sure to come in. No need to argue this because none of us really know. With that said, that would be very bad form from UND to do that which is why I don't think it's what happened.

I am totally onboard with a kid buying into himself and trying to prove it, but I have a bad feeling he's going to get shown that he may not have been ready for college hockey at 18. He trusted Bubs all along, so why should that stop now? We'll see, I guess. I completely believe Spicer has the talent to be able to be a stud in college hockey. I'm wholly doubting it happens this season. And if he has a down year, what does that do to his confidence/psyche?

The answer is no. He'll be drafted middle rounds and will likely be a good NCAA player. it sucks, but he wasn't ready and he made his own move.

Feels like a really simple story ... was likely told at a young age he could be ready to come in on X year. He works hard towards X year. X year comes up, someone has passed him on the recruiting hierarchy. He was asked to go back one more year, and said no, I'll look elsewhere. It is what it is.

I mean, we've gone around ad nauseum about why Spicer decommitted. Could he turn out to bite us in the butt and be an All-American? Sure. This year, I highly doubt it. Quote me and write it down and I'll eat every bit of crow around if it happens. Rizzo feels like a miss by the team. I'm sure Bubs would agree. I'll gladly die on the hill of thinking not having Scott Morrow on our team is a good thing. Many others would disagree. Other than those two... who else are we really missing? Miller did what he did and that's a wholly unique situation. I don't think he'll ever play college hockey again. We can go down the list of decommits and figure out if this is such a massive problem, if you'd like.

I never thought he was ready to come in at 18. Not many do come here at 18. So, I'm not sure how plugged up the pipeline is, I guess. Still would pick Senden and Hain over all of those guys to play their roles. I have very high hopes for this team this coming season and I don't think adding Spicer to this year's team would have made a difference. Do I still want him after this coming season? Absolutely, which is why today sucks. He's got loads of potential. Kid made his choice, though.

I should have said "chose the roster as currently constructed" over them choosing Hain/Senden. Could have been more succinct there.

Four players (potentially) are coming in this season that are being pegged as guys that can contribute offensively. We need scorers, no doubt, but we also need guys to do what Sendo and Hain do and they both play their roles at the best level possible.

This season. He would have been in a suit this season if he had come in. That's what I'm saying. If you disagree, I mean, I don't know what I can do to change your mind. He just decommitted.
