They didn't pull her, I was confused about how they got to a 5 on 3 as well. I kinda wonder if the refs didn't somehow screw this one up too and let the Canadian player out of the box when they weren't supposed to.

USA should have finished in regulation but that doesn't excuse the horrible officiating in OT. Canada's penalty was basically a 2 handed cross check to the head while the U.S. got called for a slash call that happens many times every game and isn't called and ten gets called because the Canadian girl was tired and Knight is stronger, pretty pathetic way to decide a gold medal. I thought Canada's goalie was the difference as she really stole a couple from the U.S. while the U.S. goalie pretty much gave Canada one. This really makes me hate Canada even more and really that Wickenhiser but hopefully the men can get some sort of redemption tomorrow. Something needs to be done about the reffing in the Olympics and especially on the womens side because they were horrible throughout and ultimately played a huge role in deciding who won the gold.
-
Watching the replay why didn't Vetter just slap the puck back in the corner instead of letting it bounce right out in front? Canada seems to have the momentum going to OT and I think they have the advantage in goal to which is important especially in the sudden death situation.
-
Lack of puck pressure and bad defensive zone coverage cost the U.S. and now they have to refocus and find a way to get it done in OT.
-
I really don't understand why the U.S. keeps trying to force the breakout up the boards when Canada is taking it away and giving them the middle. U.S. needs to be stronger with the puck to finish this off and make sure to get pucks out of the d zone when they have the chance and in deep in the offensive zone when they have the chance.

Huge goal there, had been wondering why the US hadn't tried to hit the backdoor play earlier on other powerplays.
-
Zach Yon with 2 goals and 2 assists including the game winner in a surprisingly close 4-3 section quarterfinal win over River Lakes although the shots were heavily in favor of Roseau 47-19.

Personally I like the matchup with Czech Republic or Slovakia better than having to play the Swiss but I would have liked to see Finland get the win and make Canada and Russia face each other in the quarters.
-
Bracket should look like this 1. Sweden vs. 8.Slovenia/9.Austria 4.Finland vs. 5.Russia/12.Norway 2.USA vs. 7.Czech Republic/10.Slovakia 3.Canada vs. 6.Switzerland/11.Latvia

Rask was pretty good for Finland but both the goals he gave up to Doughty were kind of weak. Thought Finland was gonna win it on the blast by Salo and then thought they would get a powerplay when one of the Canadian players slashed the stick out of the Finland players hands while he was carrying the puck through the neutral zone but they pretty much put the whistles away late in the game.
-
Finland gets the all important next goal to tie it 1-1 after Canada had pretty much been in control.
-
Finland has to clean up the turnovers if they are gonna have a chance to win this game. Also gotta make their chances count offensively as so far it seems like their best chances haven't even got on net.
-
If Canada wins in regulation they will be the #1 seed and USA stays at #3, if Canada wins in OT/SO USA moves up to #2 and Canada would get the #3.
-
I believe as long as Finland wins no matter if it is regulation or OT/SO it sets up a Russia/Canada quarter but if they do it in OT/SO it would move USA up to #2 and set up a quarter against Czech/Slovakia rather than staying at #3 and probably Switzerland.
-
If Canada or Finland win in regulation it looks like USA would most likely get the Swiss in the quarters in the 3/6 game. If Finland wins in OT/SO I think Canada and Russia would set up as the 4/5 game and USA would get the Czech Republic/Slovakia winner in the 2/7 game.

Yeah I had to laugh when during the 2nd he said Callahan with the nice move through the defenseman there and I knew right away it couldn't be Callahan and had to be Oshie just because Callahan can't make a move like the one Oshie did there.

Love that the U.S. uses these throwback jerseys as their 3rd they look much better than Canada's ugly black 3rds.

Good game tonight but wow were the refs ever bad tonight. Still not sure how either of the UND goals were disallowed and on the 2nd one even if they wanted to argue it didn't cross the line it should have been a penalty shot because then there defenseman froze the puck in the crease. A lot of different guys contributing tonight which is good to see and I thought it was a good game for Zane to get back into where there was never really a whole lot of pressure on him, I think if he had been playing the last couple weeks he stops Miami on that breakaway. Also did anyone see what happened to give up that breakaway? I saw Schmaltz was on the ice and wondered if he got picked at the blue line but never could tell from the replays shown on TV.

Great game with high intensity and great pace. International reffing was once again not real great. Thought the disallowed goal for the Russians was the right call but I thought it was because Radulov deflected it on the way in and thought it was a high stick but I guess it was because the net was off and that was the right call to make too. Thought Kane would end it for sure in OT when he had the breakaway and was surprised he didn't shoot at all in the shootout. Oshie was amazing in the shootout and easily could have been perfect if not for a couple of great saves by Bobrovsky. Really could tell U.S. defensemen were worried about Russian speed and at times it caused problems because of bad gap control and almost backing in on top of Quick.
-
I don't understand it either but everyone in the Big 10 does it, must be a conference rule.
-
Solid win tonight, the defense seemed pretty solid as a group but Schmaltz and Simpson really stood out to me as having good games. I thought the powerplay was better tonight than last weekend although it would be hard to not be. Saunders with a solid performance although I thought he was gonna give the early 1 goal lead right back with a mishandle but made a great pad save. Saunders still really seems to have trouble with his glove hand and giving up rebounds that way which needs to be cleaned up. Really hope to not see too many 4 on 4 situations tomorrow as I think it really favors Miami with all that speed. Need to make it tough on Miami getting through the neutral zone again tomorrow night and limit the penalties.

Yeah definitely not the best jerseys today. When I first saw the Canada game I thought Canada was in the white based on the jerseys and I definitely think their black jerseys may be the worst in the Olympics. Here is a pic of Canada's black jerseys:

Good post Mariucci and I think a lot of opposing teams fans would share your view if Hakstol was fired.

Gersich will turn 18 in July and it looks like there are only 4 or 5 younger than him on the team. From the games I've seen of Gersich he is a good skater and got some good skill and has a chance of being a pretty high end player but I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a year in the USHL before coming in just because of the roster situation. The newest Sioux commit Zach Yon had 4 goals and 1 assist in a 10-2 win for Roseau yesterday. He will play a year or two in the USHL but the thing that has impressed me about him is that he seems to be a natural goal scorer and when he gets a chance he doesn't miss it very often.
