Edina looks very impressive so far against Stillwater, very smooth skating, great puck movement and a good transition game. Edina up 3-0 a little over halfway into the 1st.
-
The young guys for Edina are looking pretty good against Stillwater tonight early on. Bellows definitely seems like the best of the bunch but the speculation is he will likely end up in the WHL. Wait, Zuhlsdorf, and Pugh all look like for smooth skaters and good potential too.

Eden Prairie holds on for the 4-3 win over Centennial.
-
Forgot about that but I do remember hearing about that during sections. Sounds like he is likely to go to UNO right away next year while Spinner is more likely headed to the USHL.
-
Centennial has pressured and got a post but has yet to get one to tie it up late in the 3rd. Centennial is called for a tripping penalty that looked like a good clean hit to me with 2:16 left trailing 4-3.

Roseau really did a good job of blocking shots and not giving Lakeville North a lot of time and space. Roseau really brought the physical game and I think it got to North a little bit at times. North was the favorite and should have been but I don't know if I've ever seen Roseau even when they have been the underdog go down to the X and really not play a good close game against whoever and that's why I was a little surprised to see and hear people thinking North would win by 3-5 goals. Roseau just doesn't really let that happen even when they may not have as much talent as their opponent.

Eden Prairie controlled the 1st, Centennial woke up in the 2nd and we have a 4-3 Eden Prairie lead in the early 3rd. UNO recruits from EP haven't been very impressive today but maybe it is just a bad game for both of them.

Alex Strand, very good player and right up there with Yon in terms of points, real good speed and can finish too. A little surprised he hasn't got more attention then he has, I know Bemidji is interested in him. Yon was really good again today and he had 14 of Roseau's 30 shots but he and the rest of his team just couldn't finish enough. Roseau's top line played a lot of minutes and I could kind of tell those guys kind of had to get rests on the ice at times and conserve their energy some just because they play so much. The Freshmen for Lakeville came up big with the game winner coming freshman Henry Enebank and the freshman goalie Jake Oettinger turning away a number of great chances from Roseau.

Cathedral won 4-3 in OT with a powerplay goal after Totino-Grace was called for too many men on the ice.
-
Zach Yon and his Roseau team play at 11am today for anyone in the Minnesota/North Dakota area that wants to get a look at him and gets the state hockey tournament on TV.
-
EGF the much better team and really the only reason this is close is because of Orono's goalie. EGF is definitely the quicker and more physical team although Orono has got away with a lot of hooking, holding, and interference to help negate EGF's speed a little.
-
He is a walk-on and I think doing what most expected he would be. If he wants to play he will probably need to look elsewhere but I would guess he knew the situation when he came in.

No here is what they wore today:

Even though Luverne lost 6-3 I was surprised with the level of play from them as it was much better than previous teams from that section. They definitely have some skilled guys, the 8th grader looks like he has a real nice future. Chisago Lakes is really struggling against New Prague who got a fortunate matchup. Chisago Lakes is fortunate to be here coming out of a weak section. Not sure what is up with their jerseys but they are horrible, not really sure what the logo on the front is supposed to be.
-
Not sure if the tournament is earlier than normal but maybe. They went to top 5 a couple years ago and they really need to just go ahead and seed all 8.
-
The 8th grader Jaxon Nelson was pretty good for Luverne and the commentators said the Gophers have already been looking at him. Overall Luverne surprised me a little bit and gave Hermantown a decent game 6-3.

Looks like Saturday's game may not be available to some of us that usually get the game. Right now my guide shows summit league basketball on the main midco channel and I believe they are planning to put Sioux hockey on one of the alternate midco channels. The problem is I live in Minnesota and we only are offered the main midco channel so I have emailed midco in hopes that they will consider putting the summit league basketball on the alternate and Sioux hockey on the main channel but not sure if they will actually consider that or not.
-
What channel is it put on? Is it a major network that makes you miss something big or some smaller network that nothing would be on anyway? I know a lot of people in ND who love that they get to see the best state tournament in the nation and one of the best sporting events to attend, haven't ever seen too many complaining about having it on.
-
This isn't Duke and North Carolina or a major conference game this is NDSU and a hockey school Denver and it is nowhere close to the NHL level. I would hope they would show a NHL game over a small conference basketball game no matter the teams or if they are in the local region. NDSU should have been on that me tv thing like they have been for all their other games.
-
Toews plays for the Blackhawks and played at UND that is a little bit of connection. Nick Leddy plays for the Hawks and is from Minnesota and I think the Penguins have a player or two from Northern Minnesota as well. This didn't just effect people in North Dakota, I live in Northwest Minnesota and there aren't very many people who care about NDSU basketball at all and would rather watch any kind of hockey. I have seen a lot of people from around this area very upset by it and saying they don't care about NDSU and this is Minnesota so why did they get stuck with the game.
-
I thought it was funny when they tried to apologize and said they tried to get NBC to allow them to move the hockey game to me tv like that was actually a realistic possibility. They should of put the NDSU game on me tv like usual and I really don't know why they needed to stick with the Senior night stuff instead of go right to the hockey game. I did get a good laugh out of some of Saul's comments about a guy being a real NBA prospect and stuff like that though. This is at least the 2nd time I have contacted KVLY because of something like this and the other was them showing the NDSU pre-game football show instead of the Army All-American game.

Edina may be the best team I've seen, although Wayzata was right on that same level too, and probably has the most talent and should probably be the favorite but they don't always play to their potential. Eden Prairie has a couple pretty good players but depth could be a question. Lakeville North has been a surprise to me and has beat some real good teams throughout the year and they have 3 brothers who have all committed to SCSU that are pretty good and a nice Freshman goalie. I think the East and Eagan came could be the best of any 1st round matchup in either class. I'm hoping for Roseau and the Sioux recruit Yon to pull off an upset and make a run but if I had to guess on a champions I would go with Edina.
