  1. They have already made their point with making William and Mary remove the feather from the W&M. I don't think there would be an issue with some sort of incorporation but to blatantly put a headdress on the head of a hawk is just poking the bear. It needs to be done tactfully and tastefully which, as some random designs that have popped up have shown, is very possible.
  2. UND ATHLETICS: Changes will be gradual with new nickname
  3. Fighting Hawks take set 4. UND has had Idaho's number this year, hoping they can finish it off.
  4. Give it time, I'm sure the Hawks will grow up and move on from their violent ways soon enough.
  5. Not my top choice by any means but hindsight, everyone should have seen it coming. You ever watched a group of people try to order pizza? They're going to end up with pepperoni. You have a huge, diverse group try to pick a nickname, you're going to end up with something safe/generic. All stakeholder groups wanted a say, so it had to be all-inclusive, well this is what you get. The other option was to come up with 2 or 3 unique options with no outside input and then you have people complaining about not having input, choices being forced on them and on top of it, a huge majority hates the options because unique things are polarizing by nature. The University of North Dakota made one nickname great, time for them to do the same with another.
  6. There was already a different version in the tailgating lots Saturday.
  7. Well that could be good or bad. A negative reaction shot wouldn't be very fun.....
  8. Her votes were split between MacKenzie Hart, North Dakota and MacKenzie Hart, Fighting Hawks.
  9. This made me laugh. Not because it was funny (it is) but because how spot on it is. The social media meltdown is more than I hoped for. People's lack of understanding of the basic facts are just the cherry on top.
  10. Just call up Mayor Hawk and see if there is anything he hasn't registered yet.
  11. Those characteristics create polarizing choices. You weren't going to get a committee let alone a huge group of voters to come together a "unique" option. Look at the couple that that almost met the criteria despite the committee process. They were easily the most debated, loved/hated ones. That's how you end up with generic when a group chooses things.
  12. As in Kelley actually said this or that there is a full blown marketing process that needs to be completed as part of the new rebranding and Ben Brien is more than welcome to have his chance to provide input along with other people? This is more than just a single logo, though that will be a big part of it.
  13. Fighting Hawks now trending on Twitter...
  14. Apparently the people have spoken. Voting turnout up again (almost 1K more). A home playoff football game next weekend would go a long way in showing why this process was worth it. Time to move onward and upward and focus energy and resources on positive things. What the athletic teams are called is of little consequence to the support most have for the University of North Dakota.
  15. Link to the live (10:00 a.m.) press conference: http://www.grandforksherald.com/live-video/3885383
  16. I'd go with pretty safe bet given how everything has previously went in terms of support and percentages.
  17. SIU would likely require a home/home. With USD and Utah on the schedule, guessing you're going to see a one-time money game along the lines of Drake, Valpo, Robert Morris, etc.
  18. The team played like they were young and still feeling everything out. Wisconsin is a bad match-up for almost anyone and definitely didn't help matters. They don't turnover the ball and give you extra possessions (only 6 last night vs. 17 for UND). UND did get Wisconsin to shoot at a percentage where they could stay in the game, but the second chance points along with missing free throws at the beginning killed them. I'm not sure what was more frustrating, the offensive rebounds given up where no one was in position or the 4-5 that Wisconsin took from right over the top of a UND player who actually was in position. They able to take advantage of UND's lack of depth/height down low in a way most teams won't be able to. Couple of the younger guys looked lost out there, the Kohl Center is a tough game for a first D-1 game. Q didn't have a great game, still not sold on him playing off the ball, but maybe it was just an off night for him. Geno showed some flashes of what he can do but really needs to clean up on the D end, especially the dumb hand checking fouls he got that sent him to the bench. Surprised Cashman didn't see more minutes and UND played Drick at the 5 as much as they did (which obviously didn't help rebounding at all). Was nice to see UND go 9-11 from the line after starting 0-6 The hand checking fouls are going to be a huge adjustment that all teams are going to have to get used to. Sounds like they are going to enforce it full tilt this year unlike two years ago when they gave up about halfway through the season on calling it.
  19. I don't think that playing football is the issue with understanding, it is knee-jerk reactions and instantaneous hot takes instead criticism that at least has some sort of substance to it that is the problem. There are a lot of very smart football people that didn't play or at least play at a very high level and comparatively there is plenty of guys that played in the NFL that wouldn't have a clue on things. On the same level, how much hockey did you play?
  20. I was just curious. Though I do find it amusing that a couple of random, anonymous people on the internet were easily able to sway your vote. To each their own.
