UND gets a cut right?? Here we come on-stadium campus!!
-
The New Content page is definitely different.
-
I had a mixed experience but expected it. We had plenty of folks from both schools stop by our tailgate and everyone got along just fine with lots of good conversations. Most people were indifferent but the group tailgating next to us were incredibly inconsiderate and during the game there were two separate instances of fans that drank too much coming up to our group (that clearly included ndsu fans) in the concourse trying to start something. The second guy ended up having to talk to security for a while. Again overall nothing I didn't expect.
-
While I won't disagree with your main point, this story was originated with a ndsu fan not a UNI fan. One of the Grizzly fans from AGS also had quite a story about how he was treated quite poorly by a handful of people he didn't know.
-
Without a doubt. Just fair to note that there is always a pretty big difference between the Friday night ESPN2 and Saturday afternoon ESPN game every year.

Details, details...

Sounds like a there is another school that recently had a few recruits flip to upper level FBS teams. I'm sure the staff is aware and will continue to do their best to play defense and make sure UND doesn't end up as part of a domino effect from that.
-
If 34-9 in Week 3 is being slapped around then what in the world do you call 59-7 (!!!) the third to last game of the season? WIU had a nice win against SDSU but it took 2OT's against a team that was on some strange version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. WIU got their first round win because the worst ranked team in the playoffs was only a bus ride away. Don't confuse convenient locations with proving anything.
-
This made me laugh then throw up.
-
Isn't the company line that going to NDSU is better than a G5 school because you can actually play for a championship?
-
I'm a little surprised by this as well. Not that he wasn't a good player but Oregon and Alabama are recruiting him for his senior season? Wow.

Outside of the final result, it was an entertaining game. UND played better on both ends of the court than they have all season. Definitely did not agree with some of calls made, the refs seemed to be flipping a coin on charge/blocking calls and picked odd times to call some ticky tack things, especially on UND's big guys. I also thought it was strange that Jones managed to get T'd up while Richman got a simple warning for a similar thing and then even after that the NDSU bench managed a second warning with nothing else. As for game planning, Jones was very clear that UND was going to have to be ready to play defense for the entire shot clock and I thought they did a really good job for the majority of the game. They did a good job on defending the three point shooting, Miller was the only guy that they needed to not give open shots do and they held him in check for the most part. I don't think UND would have changed how they guarded Kabellis, despite him going 4 for 5 from 3, he was something like 3 for 22 on the year going into the game. On the offensive end, Q was really fun to watch despite having to drag his leg up and down the court all game. UND's big's where a question going in and responded nicely. Cashman showed a similar game to what he had last year, Avants had some very nice hustle plays and Shanks played well given his recovery from illness (he makes at least two more baskets he left short if he was at full strength). I thought the play calls at the end were the right one, put the ball in your best player's hand. Lot of body contact on Hooker's last drive and he just missed the 3 pointer. Wish one of the two would have went the other way. Hoping the team can give that kind of effort every game the rest of the season.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ UMD Bulldogs - SATURDAY Gameday
jdub27 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I noticed that as well that and had to rewind it a couple times to watch it again. Those folks were angry about getting shutout twice in their own barn. Quite the barrage of one finger salutes and chirping. -
Quite a few recruits and parents at the basketball game last night with the coaching staff, they looked to be having a good time. Didn't see any names that weren't previously mentioned but not sure if there were any additional players.

Fair enough, I assumed you were referring to "victim card" in a different manner. My point still stands that the team was good enough to both be in the playoffs and host a game.- 35 replies

What victim card? They were deserving and left out. Not sure how that is debatable or playing a victim card? It was a direct response to you claiming they weren't good enough to host a playoff game when in fact they were just as good, if not better, than a handful of teams that got into the playoffs ahead of them and would have hosted a first round game if they would have been selected.- 35 replies

Yes, not enough quality losses which were more important than quality wins. We've been over that enough times.- 35 replies

Can you point to where did I said it only affected football? I said it would have affected them the most. The football team has been eligible for playoffs for a total of 4 years and was good enough (and would have hosted) a home playoff game this year if they would not have been the victim of some incredibly questionable decision making in the selection process. You ignored the conference issue and blow off what was on its way to becoming bigger issues for the athletic department as minor. Not sure why you're trying to change the narrative, the unanswered question is whether sports other than hockey appear in the video as they had more to lose than the hockey team and if you're going to tell the story of the nickname issues, it should be one of the major reasons laid out for why it needed to go. Or is it a video for a faction of the hockey only fans to throw more blame on the rest of the athletic department for the loss of the nickname? Seems like a simple enough question.- 35 replies

I also skip the majority of the bowl games and am fully in the camp that UND should stay where they are while things shake out. However, while the bowl game themselves can end up being a money loser for the schools involved but the bowl system itself is a net positive that outweighs any money they may lose on a bowl game. FBS schools also get paid at least 2-3x as much to play those exact same money games.

How would their have been an effect on hockey? The only thing that would have changed for them was their jersey during the NCAA tournament and probably wouldn't have got a home/home with Minnesota. Maybe they don't get a regional in Fargo, but that is up for interpretation as games are played at neutral sites, not home sites. The effects would have been nowhere on the same level that football was, where home games mean everything in the playoffs as shown by the historical results. When UND was looking for a conference home, it was openly stated that UND needed to get its nickname figured out, which had zero effect on hockey but was a major implication for the rest of the athletic department. Basketball and volleyball were having trouble scheduling money games with regional P5 schools because of the nickname, which they need and rely on the guarantees from to help supplement their budget. The track team got uninvited from a meet because of the issue. So again, back to the original point, it is a fair question to ask whether hockey is the only sport featured because one of the huge reasons for dropping the nickname was the detrimental effects it had on all of the other athletic programs. If that isn't highlighted than it is a huge and irresponsible omission if the goal was to tell the whole story.- 35 replies

http://www.sltrib.com/home/3292345-155/college-football-big-sky-commissioner-wants OK Mark Wilson. No advocates for a particular conference but somehow WIU knew they were in when they won their 6th game of the season? Whether you like Fullerton or not, he deserves credit for not only speaking openly (sometimes to a fault) but also continuously looking at ways to improve. I'd rather have a commissioner who shoots high and aims at being better, even if they miss the mark sometimes, than one(s) that are reactionary and accept the status quo.

Especially considering USD can only give out one year contracts. I believe his contract expires the end of 2016 and this seemed like more of a negotiations tactic than anything but it doesn't appear that way anymore.

Reminds me very much of Eastern Washington

Hockey would have probably been the least affected program if UND would have kept the logo and lived with the sanctions. Fair question on whether the other sports will or won't be featured.- 35 replies
