Looks like four of our key guys will be freshmen/redshirt freshmen. Plus Eli. Uelmen absolutely has been a pleasant surprise. He, the Curtis twins and Smith must have played against each other in high school, all being from Minneapolis schools.

"Most of this season?" We were 6-2 after 8 games; I was at/watched all 8 games and, IMO, the play calling may not have been perfect, but was generally very good. If we had Ziebarth for the final four games, the play calling MAY have succeeded/been different in the short yardage/red zone situations in question. JMO.

Could really use Z. I think that he could have made a difference in at least two of the three games that we lost late in the season.

Yeah, the defense definitely took a step back after only giving up 57 pts. to the same team the whole game two days prior. Maybe the offense took a baby step forward with a modest improvement over their previous high. Also, outrebounded their opponent for the third straight game, despite their lack of size. Big challenge going forward.

Other than the Minnesota game, the defense seems to be pretty decent (63.0 ppg ave., ex-Minnesota), which is one of the things, along with rebounding, that he stresses. And we've outrebounded the last two teams that we've played. Now, for the shooting/scoring.

Agree. They have a good defense, plus a good QB and top-notch RB putting up big numbers, not to mention home field advantage. 28-24 UND

Hope it's not too premature to call for putting up 50+ points and 400 yds. rushing against them, but the debacle of the last two years lingers in the back of my mind, realizing that we're not the same team that we were the last two years, but also realizing that ISU may not be the same team, either, judging by the fact that they were only down 10-7 at halftime vs. SU (eventually lost 38-7). Also, we're missing Ziebarth. Anything can happen in the MVFC, but I'd be happy with a comfortable win where we play well, with no significant injuries, considering the gauntlet that we're facing in 3 of the 4 games thereafter.

Our freshman DB clearly got burned on the winning TD. However, the two PI calls against him were, IMO, ticky tack calls that you don't make in a close, bigtime game, not to mention the horse collar call. Let the players decide the outcome in a game like this, rather than playing to the crowd, as it appears that the refs were doing. Also, I love Schmidty and staff and what they're doing, but I hate to see our best RB, IMO, sitting out maybe half or more of the game (8 carries for 45; 5.6 ave.). I think that we have to have him in there late in the game when we're trying to grind out first downs and eat clock, and anytime we're inside their 10 yard line. He seems to know how to get into the endzone. Maybe the above has already been addressed ad nauseum in this thread, but I was too busy watching the game to read it. JMO.

I remember that hit by the SDSU kid. He rightfully got thrown out of the game for it and afterwards the camera caught him laughing about it on the sideline.

I did, but not quite good enough! Great game, glad that I went. Quite a bit of green there tonight. The team did them proud. Looking forward to the rest of the season. Already have my tickets and am planning on driving up for the NDSU game, with a stop in Omaha along the way Friday night for the hockey game.
