I've emailed Chaves. I'd encourage anybody else that likes McCollum to do the same. You never know.
-
Probably, although if Chaves put the hard sell on him and showed him that we really wanted him and that we're fully committed to winning, who knows...….

If we go with a Division II coach, then I believe that Ben McCollum deserves a serious look. No D-II coach has accomplished what he's accomplished over the past few years, winning two of the last three national championships, including a perfect 38-0 this season, and 7 of the last 8 conference championships, so he has nothing left to prove at that level. Plus, he's young (38), is from the Midwest (Iowa), and obviously knows how to recruit, as most of his players are from the Kansas City area, where he has a lot of competition from several other DI and DII schools in the area. Also, he's a two-time national coach of the year. Moving up from DII, he would probably get a bump in pay, even with what UND can afford to pay.

He responded to my email as well. I hope that he applies, but he's coaching at his alma mater now. However, he doesn't have a whole lot more to prove there, having won two national titles in the last three years and 7 of the last 8 conference titles. I was trying to find his current salary, but have been unable to so far.

He's at Missouri Southern State University. His team plays in the same conference as Northwest Missouri State University (Ben McCollum).

I also emailed Chaves just to put a bee under his bonnet.

I actually emailed him and encouraged him to apply. Nothing may come of it, but who knows. He looks/seems like a really sharp guy. I've seen his two national championship wins and his teams seem to be very disciplined and he seems to know how to tailor his talent to the appropriate style of play. Plus, he gets most of his talent from the Kansas City metro area, where he has to compete with multiple DI (KU, K State, MU, UMKC, Mo. State) and DII (Pitt St., Washburn, Emporia St., William Jewell, Ft. Hays St.) schools for talent.
-
Oh, yes! His best player is from Minnesota, but most of his players are from Missouri and Kansas, and primarily the Kansas City metro area. The rest are from Iowa and Nebraska.

Ben McCollum, Northwest Missouri State University. Only about 38 years old and has lead N. W. Mo. St. to two national division II titles in the last three seasons, including a perfect 38-0 this season. Big time up-and-comer. 2019 national coach of the year; 7 conference titles in the last 8 seasons.

Been looking forward to this one. Only about a 2 and a half hour shot (or less) from Kansas City.

Going with tradition: I like the green jersey with white pants.

Not as familiar with the players and, hence, the schools of the players that sign early, so it would be a blessing if those posting early signees could also include their schools. I know that many do that already. Thanks.

Good insights and great post. Thanks, Teeder.

I think it had something to do with the fact that he spent half his time either on his backside or running for his life, ala his two years at Sac St.

How do you really feel about them? Seriously, no wonder they're rated lower than virtually all of the hotels across the street. We've stayed in most of the hotels across the street or not too far up the street and the best of them has been the Staybridge Suites and the Hampton Inn; very pleased with both, with the Sleep Inn not far behind. The only one that was a cut below was the Baymont; we wouldn't stay there again.

Thanks for a great post! I almost got goose bumps reading it! I'm with you looking forward to 2019 Fighting Hawks football! Hope your son has a great season!

Hopefully, Kacie's coming to UND will have some pull after Katie graduates. The only time that I saw Manson play was the DL game at the state tournament and she seemed to shoot the ball pretty well.

The three finalists for Miss Basketball in North Dakota and one of the all-time leading scorers in Minnesota; for some reason, I'd forgotten about the two bigs. Looks great on paper. We'll need at least 3-4 of them to be ready to step in next season. Looks like this class will bring some much-needed outside shooting to the table.

I believe Flowers graduated a year ago, if I'm not mistaken.

Got it. Wasn't sure where you were actually picking them, I was just observing that, just based on what they're losing, it would be hard to see them finishing higher than 4th next season. Just for starters, I'm thinking Omaha, NDSU, and possibly UND could finish above them next season. Not sure what some of the other teams have returning. Looking forward to your outlook for next season.

Impressed to see that the ladies put up 80 when Lexi only had 13. Also, say what you want, but in the handful of games that I've seen this season, the ladies have always played hard and never quit, regardless of the circumstances; testimony to good senior leadership, if not good coaching.

Not sure, but it sure seems that he didn't have the Jacks mentally prepared for Western. It goes without saying that you can't overlook anyone at tournament time, even an eighth seed.
-
SDSU was beatable this year with one of the Summit's all-time best players in the lineup. Losing him plus two other starters next season, it's hard to see them in the top 3, unless they have some studs coming in.

Up to 17 on pairwise.
