    Jordan Parise

Sadly, my last memories of Parise's outstanding college career may be those BC snipers going top shelf on him in the first period of the Frozen Four semi.

    Jordan Parise

Numbers don't mean a thing without da ring. Parise is an excellent college goalie who could play in the AHL but I just don't see him ever playing regularly at the NHL level. I hope he proves me wrong. I think he is very similar to Karl and, to my knowledge, Goehring had a solid AHL career but never played a game in the NHL.
  3. The same person who gave me the scope on Hunter told me this kid is the real deal. Great kid, very hard worker and solid hockey player. This is a great pickup for the Sioux.
  4. Waste some money? That money went to support the fine athletic department at Holy Cross and I support all college athletics. I did my part supporting U of M athletics when I bought Kessel a beer at Stub and Herbs during the Final 5.
  5. This may have been reported elsewhere but a little bird told me that the Sioux have signed Hunter Bishop, F , Vernon Vipers (BCHL). Reason for signing is due to injury to Sioux recruit Evan Trupp. Anyone else hear this news??
  6. My biggest concern for next year is to avoid the Duluth syndrome. If the Freshman come back cocky and expecting to walk back to the Frozen Four, we will be in trouble. The key will be leadership. Fabian's return will be huge if he can be a vocal leader in the same mold as a Matt Greene. The question for me is who is going to be the leader of next year's team. If no one steps up in a big way, all that talent ain't gonna mean squat.
  7. Build a $100 Million Dollar Arena.
  8. Thanks for the memories Spirko. I still play the clip of you undressing Harrington and Briggs whenever I am feeling blue. Think that I will pop it in right now.

    Stafford signs!

Trioxp, You getting your information from THE SOURCE? Last I heard, he was back on the cheap vodka. Last time that happened, he gave me some bad information on who was going to be the next Pope. Lost a bundle on that one in Vegas. That said, I have learned never, ever to doubt THE SOURCE. By the way, THE SOURCE just hooked me up with Zajac's game worn helmet autographed by all members of this years team for a charity auction. No doubt it will set a bidding record for a very good cause.
  10. The appeal will be delayed to give UND more time to obtain approval of one or more of the Sioux tribes. The only way the NCAA saves face is to place UND in the same position as other schools that have gotten the waiver. I am confident that UND and one of the tribes will be able to work out acceptable agreement to continue using the name. If that isn't in place by the 27th, the date will be extended. NCAA is all about saving face at this point. Brand is too stubborn or stupid to approve the appeal without tribal support. UND would be wise to pursue this route. Nobody but the lawyers win with a protracted legal action.
  11. Not back since 1989 because the dates didn't work out?? Geez, Phil Boy must be real busy playng golf with the Lama and riding around on his Harley. Not sure why UND is falling over itself trying to honor this guy. I know he has been a huge success but what has he done for UND or North Dakota along the way? Maybe if Phil really wants to make a difference, he could donate some of his millions to UND to set up schlorships for American Indians. Again, maybe he is more active than I know. I just don't recall of ever reading about him being an active alumni.
  12. IMO, you don't win NCAA's with Freshman and Sophmores. You win them with Juniors and Seniors. That is why you need a good mix of solid 4 year guys like Panzer, Goehring, Fuhrer, Schneider, Jones, Porter, Fabian, Parise ect. ect. and the young superstars that will be gone after a year or two. UND has done a job job of this over the years. I don't think anyone is arguing with the individual decisions that are made by these players in getting their payday and playing in the NHL. None of us would do any different. The questions I have is this. Is UND a more successful program because the number of NC they have won or the number of players they send on to the NHL?? UND has sent a good number of players to the NHL over the last few years but the program has no trophies to show for it. To me, this is the question raised by SportsDoc, not whether it is wrong for these talented players to leave early.
  13. I trust that all of you responding to this thread have put your check in the mail to Pat Riley.
  14. Money, money, money. Sadly, it is what makes the world go round. However, for a good enough player the money will always be there. I'd like to see a survey of guys who left early and pinballed between the AHL and the NHL for their careers to determine how they now feel about leaving early and missing out on the complete college experience. In other words, in hindsight, was the money worth it? Let's start the survey with Byan Lundbolm and Ryan Bayda.

    Thank You

The man, the myth, the legend, the Prpich. Thanks for the memories. You give me a team full of Mike Prpich's and I kick your ass everytime. All the best in whatever you choose to do.

    Smaby signs

Congrats to Smaby. A top notch hockey player and a class act all the way. This is turning into a pretty dim Thursday. Based upon the time of year, any chance that we see either Zajac or Smaby "resurrected" back into the program come Monday?
  17. Good luck Travis. Can't blame you for taking the money when offered. However, one day you will realize that money never gonna replace the feeling that skating for #8 next year would have provided. Somebody said before that great Sioux players come and go, but the real legends are the ones wearing a NC ring.

    Early outs

I agree. I could give a rats ass about pro hockey and would have liked to see all the top players stick around for four years. That said, good luck Travis. I have little doubt you will make an impact at the next level.
  19. Article in Colorado Springs paper about how Phil Jackson thinks name should be changed. www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1316416&secid=3 Sorry, don't know how to hyper link.
  20. BS, I think the post is looking at the season as a whole. The bottom line for me is that if someone told me that the Sioux would make it to the FF at the beginning of the year, I would have said that that exceeded my expectations. On the other hand, if somebody would have told me I would experience the profound pleasure of watching the Gophers dribble one down their legs against Holy Cross, I would have said that exceeded by wildest imagination.
  21. With all the problems the AFA has had in recent years regarding sex scandals, cheating, and Fisher DeBerry stating the reason he lost a game was because he didn't have enough blacks on his roster, you'd think that a kid with a solid family background who appears to have beat depression should be given a chance. Jacques was open and honest about his situation. What does this say to all the other kids out there who are fighting depression about coming forward and getting help?

    Early outs

Ahhh, the George Costanza school of negotiation. Hold out for less money.
  23. I'm sure the business in WI are bummed the Sioux lost. Would have been a lot more green and white throwing dollars around the last few days rather than the few fans that follow BC. Also, I thought the NCAA was going to ban the Sioux logo for the tournament and make them wear alternative jerseys. What happened?? Did that get postponed until next year?

    Early outs

This may have been discussed earlier but what kind of players union actually negotiates salary cuts in a new CBA??? Seems to me the object is to continue to increase the benefits to the players, or at least keep them the same. Is pro hockey in that bad financial shape that players are agreeing to negotiated pay cuts in the new CBA? Also, I assume that signing bonus' are the only guaranteed money that a player gets. In other words, can a player make up lost signing bonus by increasing salary and have that salary increase guaranteed? If not, I agree that we will see a lot of those players leave early to take the guaranteed money. In a perfect world the decision should be based upon whether a player is ready for the next level, not whether waiting a year will cost them money. Not that it would matter for Stafford, Smaby and Zajac, all three of whom I think are ready. Sadly, I don't see any of them back next year. I hope I'm wrong.
  25. The Hobey stays in the WCHA where it belongs. Best conference, best players, best coaches, best teams.
