  1. Hey Big Ten... how does it feel to be the 2nd best hockey conference in the Midwest?
  2. I hope alcohol was a factor when you posted this.
  3. I think what he's saying is... 1) The WCHA has taken a big hit losing Minnesota and Wisconsin and couldn't afford to cut loose UND even if they had an issue with the Sioux name, which they don't seem to. 2) As soon as Minnesota and Wisconsin signed on to the BTHC they indicated that they might not play the Sioux anymore because of the nickname issue... they had no choice in the WCHA, now they do. Nickname had nothing to do with them leaving, however moving to the BTHC gave them an opportunity to be PC or however they want to spin it. 3) While the WCHA brass and the teams left haven't stated publicly that they have an issue with the nickname, don't assume that means they will have our back in a fight. There could be more Minnesota/Wisconsin-type sentiment out there than we are aware of. I think if there's one lesson from this whole nickname process it's 'don't assume anything'.

    500K!

Congrats SiouxSports on the 500,000th post this morning, as smart as we are it's amazing there are any problems left unsolved in the world.
  5. I'm with you there, I've seen maybe 2 or 3 that haven't made me nauseous.
  6. If the PC crowd has any sense they will keep their mouths shut if the nickname does indeed change, any effort to regulate the wearing of Sioux apparel would result in some real 'hostile and abusive' behavior. Thinking that they can influence or control private sector matters is arrogant and assinine on their part.
  7. I think that's what most people will end up doing. I know a lot of people have said they will never wear clothing with whatever the new nickname ends up being on it, but over time I think most people will at least pick up a few things and wear them on occasion, maybe not as much as they wear their Sioux stuff, but sometimes. We're not going to be happy when the nickname changes, and whatever it ends up being will not hold a candle to 'Fighting Sioux', but I think we have to look at the bigger picture and realize that what is important is supporting the players we have on the court/field/ice at that time, whether they are playing now or haven't even been born yet, and part of that support should be displaying the UND insignia that is available at that time, even if it grinds on us because of hard feelings over the loss of the 'Fighting Sioux' nickname we all grew up with.
  8. Exactly right, they already won the battle when they negotiated the settlement and have no intentions of revisiting something they came out of smelling like a rose. What has been lost in this whole NCAA/UND/BSC/Sioux Tribes discussion is the real reason we are in this pickle... a poor job was done negotiating the settlement with the NCAA. We point at the 'better' settlements that Florida State and others have gotten but IMO it had more to do with those schools/states having better representation willing to play hardball when it came time to hammer out an agreement than we did and in the end they were able to negotiate better agreements gaining favor with fewer Tribes whereas our people pretty much layed down for the NCAA and entered into a sketchy agreement that was iffy from the start. If we would have had the 1 Tribe agreement in the first place like we should have, like almost everybody else did, all this would be moot.
  9. Wow. That's harsh. I thought this might happen (v v v) but not until after the state decided what course they were going to pursue and not in the tone that they set in this letter. Even the thought that they might reconsider admission is enough to tighten the sphincter of the staunchest nickname supporter, I think my heart skipped a beat or two. For many involved in this nickname process, business is about to pick up. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ PhillySioux, on 21 April 2011 - 10:15 AM, said: I would submit that they had no earthly idea the legislature would force UND into sanctions. As the matter was settled at the time of membership invitation. We'll have to wait and see if they publicly care. jodcon, on 21 April 2011 - 03:06 PM, said: This is the right take on it, when UND was being courted by the Big Sky the dissolving of the nickname was a done deal and was proceeding according to plan, in the Big Sky's eyes there was a 0% chance this would be an issue down the road. Now that it has reappeared and has the possibility of becoming a drawn-out legal issue once again, they have to be eyeballing it with at least a little concern regarding scheduling issues and possible tournament implications (remember conference champions host tournaments in the Big Sky), how much they care is unclear at this point. They're probably not going to say anything publicly until North Dakota decides whether or not they want to take the NCAA to court, if they do go to court I'm sure the Big Sky will release a statement listing what (if any) concerns they have over the issue. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  10. Twist of fate for the Bruins last night. Burrows, who many thought would be kicked out for a game because of the biting incident, is cleared to play and kills Boston with 2 goals and an assist. Talk about adding insult to injury. 2 tough losses for the Bruins @ Vancouver, could have just as easily won them both, especially last night...they seemed to have control of the game but Vancouver was buzzing in the third period. Going to have to do it the hard way now.
  11. Secondly this from the Bobcats... ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Home Sports Bobcats Davis ruled ineligible, again Posted: Thursday, June 2, 2011 11:30 pm The coaching staff was prepared for this. Montana State University 1,000-yard rusher Orenzo Davis is once again ineligible for the 2011 football season, head coach Rob Ash announced on Thursday. Davis was originally declared ineligible in January by the NCAA for undisclosed reasons. MSU won an appeal a month later and the senior-to-be was reinstated. Davis competed in spring drills in March, but did not complete the three-week session. "We anticipated that he was going to have to work hard," Ash said from Helena Thursday after a golf outing, "and about midway through the (spring) semester, we figured out he was having problems, so that's why we pulled him out of spring ball. "The NCAA has certain standards for academic progress in terms of how many hours a guy has to earn credits for. I can't say what his grades were, but I can say that he didn't meet the NCAA standard for academic progress." Ash said Davis' initial ineligibility and the current one are unrelated. "These are two completely different situations," he said. "After thinking he wasn't going to be with us (in January) and then getting him back, this makes it difficult." Ash is unconcerned when it comes to replacing the 1,126 yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, 15 receptions and 15 kickoff returns Davis accumulated last season, when the Bobcats won the Big Sky Conference championship. MSU will return C.J. Palmer, who started as a freshman and ran for 477 yards a year ago as a junior; Cody Kirk, who opened last season as the starter; and Kerry Sloan, who had 17 carries last fall. Also in the mix is University of Nebraska transfer Tray Robinson. "I feel like we're ahead of the game, because these guys got all of those turns in spring ball," Ash said. "They're all capable of playing extremely well." When the Bobcats open fall camp on Aug. 5, incoming freshman Shawn Johnson of Bakersfield, Calif., will also get a look. When asked if Ash was considering bringing in a transfer running back, he replied, "I'm very comfortable with the four guys that we have. We're preparing to go into the season with those four guys." Ash also said Thursday that cornerback Chris Wilson has stopped playing football in order to concentrate on his track and field career at MSU. As a senior at C.M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Wilson set state records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes during the 2009 Class AA state meet in Kalispell. Wilson played in two games last season as a redshirt freshman, recording one tackle. Thursday was the start of an eight-week summer workout program for the Bobcats. MSU begins the 2011 season Thursday, Sept. 1 at Utah at 6 p.m. MDT, one of just 14 games nationwide that evening. The Bobcats will be the only Big Sky team playing that night. MSU's home opener is Sept. 10 against UC Davis, which also plays on Sept. 1 (at Arizona State). Utah finished 10-3 the past two seasons. The Utes had their nine-game bowl winning streak snapped to end last season, a 26-3 loss to Boise ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pretty good hit for the Cats whether Ash wants to admit it or not.
  12. Couple newsworthy items from the Big Sky the last couple days, first this from Missoula regarding Joes boy... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MISSOULA, Mont. (AP)—The son of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana has pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. Nate Montana appeared in Missoula County Justice Court on Friday. AP - Jun 3, 9:39 am EDT NCAAF Gallery Jail records show the 21-year-old Montana was booked into jail on a first-offense DUI charge at 3:46 a.m. Friday and released after posting a $685 bond. The Missoulian reports that Montana and his attorney declined to comment at the hearing. Montana transferred from Notre Dame to the University of Montana in Missoula in February and is vying for the starting quarterback spot. Montana was one of 11 Notre Dame athletes arrested on misdemeanor charges of underage drinking at a party in South Bend, Ind., last July. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rumor had it Nate going to the U of Washington was a done deal, now he shows back up in Missoula and promptly gets a DUI. IDK WTF (3 abbreviations in a row, how about that ) is going on with him and the Griz, is he playing here or not? It looks like Johnson will be the starter, or will he? This whole thing is weird.
  13. While he does admit to having the finger in his mouth, he denies inhaling. Oh wait...I was thinking of something else...never mind.
  14. I don't think he will be here at all, there was speculation that he would come back when he lost the starting job at Washington...which he has...but it looks like he will stay there. Sounds like he would have been the 2nd or 3rd QB here too, he wasn't any better than what they already had brought in. Joe Montana he ain't.
  15. Kid is messed up and I wonder how much Daddy "helping" and looking over his shoulder had to do with it. Hope he's getting help with his issues. As far as where he goes, I don't know if anybody in the upper echelon would take a chance on him, but somebody like San Diego State or U of San Diego might take a flier...the upside could be worth the gamble for someone like that. As far as Montana, even though the QB spot is wide open they already have Joe's boy from Notre Dame and a couple other guys who looked good in the spring game...I would rather pass on him unless he gets his head and grades in order and his Dad is banned from Missoula.
  16. Yeah, another thing we can add to our list of "Montana Infamous History". Unabomber Freemen No Speed Limit Law Medical Mary Jane Never a dull moment in Big Sky Country.
  17. I tore my ankle up one time and it had a lot of blue, red, and purple...if someone would put in a yellow field it would probably be an exact match.
  18. He is the correct channel for the lawmakers to turn to, what I meant was when the SBHE later made public that they would be looking for a legal opinion from him on the constitutionality of the law there was no reason for him to do it any earlier, he will wait for their request. It's not a slight towards the lawmakers on his part, if the SBHE wouldn't have made that statement last week he would have worked on it at the lawmakers request, it has to be done either way. I'm sure he's looking at it now even though he hasn't got the 'official' request yet from the SBHE.
  19. That would make sense, I quit reading any WAC-related board because since Montana turned them down it has been the same people on there who won't let it go and they just keep posting the same moronic crap over and over and over, so I can see them saying stuff like that. I don't think drinking the Kool-Aid is really necessary, UND is going in the right direction on a number of levels.
  20. Where did you see that? I read the EGriz boards all the time and haven't seen anything like that, almost everyone on there is saying Tennessee will drill us with the exception of a few crackheads who think we can 'scare them' with a close game. Same few idiots think Montana should have jumped to the WAC, everybody else knows the time is not right and the conference is definitely not right (for now at least), almost all are very happy to be in the Big Sky. As far as the conference being 'beneath them', it was beneath them in the standings 14 of the last 16 years but I've never seen anybody rub it in for lack of a better phrase unless there was a Bobcat fan involved. Fact is most of the football discussion going on lately has been where Montana will finish this year (3rd behind EWU and Montana State is the general feeling) and whether Pflugrad will be able to do the job or not in a 'Fire Hak' type of situation. As with any fan base, don't take too seriously the rantings of the 1-5% who are lunatics. I will agree that I have not seen anything negative regarding the addition of UND, I think they're held in a pretty decent regard out here.
  21. Lot of different opinions about his abilities on the pro level also, all the way from 2nd liner to not pro material at all. I didn't realize he was in the Wheeler situation until yesterday, it makes a lot more sense now with him having multiple options. I would bet this loophole will be addressed the next chance they get.
  22. They had made it sound earlier like they didn't even have room for him on their AHL team, makes me think the Islanders are going to go with a serious youth movement next year and move a bunch of kids to the big show, which considering that they're already the worst team in hockey would make sense...they need to start somewhere. I'd be surprised if he ended up anywhere but Bridgeport next year.
  23. I guess we knew all along it was a 50/50 chance, best of luck to Gregs down the road, thanks for the memories. This really thins things up with Cichy and Bruno leaving, we are going to be pretty green on that 3rd and 4th line...and I'm not talking jersey color either.
  24. Yep. First thing that popped in my head when I read it.
