4 emoticons in one post...is that a record? Seriously though Stenehjem is in a tough position, he might be forced into making a call that will have half the state pissed off regardless of which way it goes. Of course it wouldn't be his fault...it would be how the law is written...but some would put his face on it. Glad it's not me.
-
No surprise there, there was no reason for him to respond to the 10 lawmakers request with the SBHE contemplating legal action which would require his opinion at that time, he will probably be called upon by the SBHE in the next couple months for the same thing anyway. Then it's going to get interesting.
-
Well we are a bunch of goons you know, ask anybody.
-
One thing I would bet the farm on...Stenehjem never saw this coming where he might be put into the position of determining the nickname fate, I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Titleist should give me some stock options for all the balls I've lost trying to cut the corner on doglegs.

And don't forget if you're serious about drinking beer you have to factor in taking a leak every few holes, that is frowned upon in the middle of the fairway so an occasional shank into the woods is almost a necessity.

Exactly, until the question of whether the law is unconstitutional or not is answered there cannot be any further course of action planned, regardless of whether you're a nickname supporter or opposer this is the first order of business. The AG is going to have to make this call soon, the SBHE will be asking for it, and then the next step can be mapped out. I don't understand the thinking of dragging everything out to the last possible minute, what is really to gain by it? These things don't happen overnight, if this law ends up being deemed constitutional and the state decides to fight the NCAA in court, it's going to be well past the sanction date before it ever actually starts getting argued in court, do we really want this to drag out until 2013 or 14 or 15 when by taking the legal route we can only improve our situation from what it already will be? It's a win or stay-the-same situation at that point, there is no downside except the cost of the trial. If the thinking is to not ever address whether or not the law is constitutional because it could lead to the nickname being retired immediately...well that is not going to happen. In order for this to end up well in the eyes of supporters it's going to be a necessary evil to have to sweat through this ruling, and hope it goes well. If it does, UND may well be the Fighting Sioux forever, whether with or without sanctions will be determined down the road.

Anybody can play right down the middle, it takes skill to hit your second shot out of a deer hoofprint through some powerlines. You pay to use the whole course, take the scenic route.

Interesting if not surprising perspective by the Herald but the legislature itself is on the back burner right now on the nickname issue. What is going to happen next is the AG Stenehjem is going to have to decide whether or not it's legal for the legislature to order UND to keep the nickname and logo or whether they overstepped their bounds by ordering it. Now whether he's going to do it pretty quickly at the request of the lawmakers who requested it this week or if he's going to wait until the SBHE officially requests him to do it, which I would guess will happen in their June meeting, is unknown. But either way, he is going to have to study and interpret this situation before anything else happens. Once that question is answered, one of three paths will be followed: Law is unconstitutional: 1) Retiring of nickname/logo will proceed as planned. Law is constitutional: 1) Nickname/logo will stay and UND will live with sanctions imposed. 2) State will file suit against NCAA trying to get sanctions lifted. As I've said before, we need this process to move along as quickly as possible so I'm hoping the AG is working on it now and not waiting until the SBHE requests it down the road, this needs to be settled one way or another ASAP! I'm not an attorney so if I'm mistaken on any of this there are enough lawyers on this board who can feel free to straighten me out.

It is. MSNBC says our brand is hostile and abusive and refuses to rank us on the "Brand Rating List".

There's been a lot of talk about Grimaldi the last couple days as far as what he can/will do next year but I'm not really too worried about him and Miller, they have the talent to make it work even while they're settling in. What does worry me is those 3 X's in the starting lineup, which will become 4 X's if Gregs leaves, I feel fairly comfortable with Dickin but the other 4 on the list are question marks on this level and might be leaned on heavily next year depending on Gregoire's status and injuries, imagine a lineup with those 5 plus freshmen Grimaldi and Miller and without Gregoire and someone like Kristo/Nelson/Knight... could be some growing pains there.
-
So looking at this the SBHE seems far more interested in finding a way to negate the legislative action than it does giving even a neutral stance on the possibility of the state filing a lawsuit against the NCAA. Doesn't look like anything has changed from their point of view, they still want it retired ASAP.

Richville...that's just south of Detroit Lakes...hmm. Fanatical ranting Detroit Lakes area Bison fan with a big mouth...hmm. It's starting to come to me...
-
Detroit scores late and lives to play another day winning 4-3.
-
Well Detroit has blown a 3-0 lead tonight and it's tied at 3 halfway through the 3rd, and Boston is up 1-0 halfway through the 2nd...could be the end of 2 more series pretty quickly.
-
I think the every other year game has some merit at this point, but getting people to agree on it is another thing entirely. I don't think UND would want to commit to anybody non-conference every year now that they are in a 13 team league, it's a whole different ballgame than having 4 conference games. EDIT: Beat me to it darell!
-
I was thinking that too. Ironic how we're at the exact same place we were last year...last year on May 5th Boston went up 3--0 over Philly, this year on May 4th Boston went up 3-0 over Philly. Something tells me there will be no series predictions this year.
-
I thought maybe it was you in Boucher's equipment, it looked like the fix was in to me.
-
Holy crap Boston scores 2 in the first 1:03 of the game, who is goaltending for Philly...Goon maybe?
-
You don't fool us Ophelia...we know who you REALLY are.

And for the most part it worked out well, Northern Colorado doesn't have their 2 closest teams as rivals but them being right next to the Denver airport and an easy hop to anywhere probably factored in somewhat. You could make an argument for having the 3 California schools in one pod...Montana, Montana State, and UND in another...EWU, Portland State, and Idaho State in a third...which would leave Southern Utah, Weber, Northern Arizona, and Northern Colorado to make a 4th between the 4 of them...that would make sense too but then you wouldn't have Montana/EWU or Idaho State/Weber as rivals which wasn't going to happen. Overall they did the best they could all factors considered.
-
Really? 1) Which school has said they don't want UND in the Big Sky? Are you going to say Montana State? Ash-hole is unhappy because Montana got Eastern Washington and they didn't. It didn't matter which new teams joined the league, Montana is the money game and they will get the best rivalry game, not Montana State. If Montana State wouldn't have got UND they would have got UNC and Ash would have cried about that too. 2) UND doesn't need NDSU for anything. Ever. They could use a travel partner from the midwest, if they don't get one they will stick with UNC and it will be fine. 3) See #1. Montana is the draw and gets the 2 best rivalry games, Montana State and EWU, end of story. UND and the rest of the conference had no chance of getting Montana from those 2 schools, it has nothing to do with how Montana views UND, it has everything to do with the Big Sky wanting to showcase their best teams in the biggest rivalries.

Ovechkin had a couple bad giveaways, looked like he was trying to do it by himself in the 3rd...but then again he almost had to, they didn't look good at all.

These playoffs have been as good as any I can remember, and tonight should be no different. Nashville goes home tied with a chance to put Vancouver in a hole. And what about TB's playoff run, rallying from 3-1 to take out Pittsburgh and then winning the first 2 at Washington? Big trouble for any Caps fans...seems like I remember there being one on here...hmm.

Looks like one is from Manitoba and one is from Quebec so probably not.
