  1. Look, my intent is not to throw anyone under the bus on this deal but instead to shoot down the inaccurate defending of our 'officials' as the Herald referred to them today. They played it safe and looked to just make a profit by playing at Orleans Arena. They underestimated the market big time for this game. 7500 seats sold out for this game before the general public and the opposing team had a chance to purchase; sold out 20 months in advance of the game! I am sure the Orleans Arena has never sold out 20 months in advance of an event. Not sure if I have ever heard of any event selling out 20 months in advance of an event. I know there are many UND fans that didn't get a chance to buy tickets for this event that are pissed and rightfully so. Just think how many MN fans will be irate as well! There are tons of MN alumni in the Vegas area that have no chance to attend the game as well as thousands of MN season ticket holders. Don't tell me that our arena or Minnesota's arena aren't always sold out either. That is very shallow thinking. This is an event, not just another game. This is a UND/MN Game in Vegas! Everyone loves Vegas and combine Vegas with hockey and you knew that it was an easy sell. In addition, there is no other major city in America easier to get to then Las Vegas. Our 'officials' played it safe and narrow minded and the left a lot of opportunity on the table. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in more revenue could have and should have been hauled in by our university. This in light of the budget cuts our University faces once again. Those that have the right to be pissed by this lost opportunity should also include those that are affiliated with those sports that again are on the chopping block!
  2. LOL, that was a joke...but I but for the extra $100,000 they would haul out and back in again!
  3. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 The Price Of A Concert: Breaking Down Where The Money Goes How on Earth can these performers justify their $100 - $250 ticket price? Venue Most venues are paid up front, and they get paid whether the concert is successful or not. The average cost to rent an arena is around $20,000/night while the average cost to rent an amphitheater is around $10,000/night. Smaller clubs cost less, but their capacity is also less. Full article: http://rockandrollguru.blogspot.com/2011/03/price-of-concert-breaking-down-where.html?m=1
  4. If they could get what Southpaw thinks they could to rent it for 4 hours, they would have the game same day as PBR!
  5. I was referring to Orleans arena not renting for $100,000+. And casinos off the strip are not full on any weekend. If you want to talk about renting T-Mobile...the extra 10,000 tickets sold at $80 equals $800,000 in lost revenue. Sure there are extra expenses involved in T-Mobile but if you can't agree that there is a lot of opportunity lost then I am sorry
  6. In your infinite wisdom please tell me why renting this building would be way more then $100,000? I can rent the Ralph for less then $200 an hour and it is bigger. Granted that doesn't include ushers and other employees but lets do the math...for $100,000 you can employ 2500 people for 4 hours at $10/hour. I don't think there will be that many staff needed! Also, lets consider that this arena is attached to a hotel, a hotel that they are booking rooms for with this game. Oh, lets also remember this place has casino...a casino that the 7500 in attendance may gamble in. Good thing you are not negotiating this deal...they should comp this arena to UND, not charge them $100,000 + (which they most certainly are not) I love these non business folks that just throw out these obsurd numbers without doing the math or thinking in a business manner!
  7. I bought six, not sure if I need all 6 since it is 20 MONTHS FROM NOW, but I have had 30 requests already form those who didn't get tickets, all UND fans. As I said, this will be the hottest, and most expensive ticket in UND history. MN fans basically have 0 tickets for this game...200 tickets for parents and administration alone. Tickets will be going for over $1000 during the weeks before the game
  8. The game is still 20 months from now...lets get on the administration and coerce them to change this venue to the NHL rink!
  9. The UND administration underestimated the presale to Champion Club members. They didn't think the game would sell out in a 7500 seat arena. Appearantly they never heard that history is a great predictor of the future.
  10. C'mon, think about it...7500 tickets sold vs 20,000 tickets sold at $80 each before fees...unless the costs were over $1,000,000 the numbers don't add up. And that is just ticket revenue...doesn't include merchandising, concessions, beer, and parking revenue...UND administration blew it by being conservative. They don't know there own market. For those of you thinking of buying on the secondary market...you are right everyone has a price but with MN only getting 200 tickets, what do you think their big wigs will pay for a ticket?
  11. No tickets will be available on the secondary market as they all went in the presale to UND champions club members
  12. There was only 150 left for sale. UND administration thought small and didn't get the NHL arena. This will be the hardest ticket in UND history. Could have easily sold 20,000 tickets. 15,000+ to UND and 5,000+ to MN. Lost opportunity...shame on them for thinking small. MN only has 200 seats for this game!
  13. OMG Fran, get over yourself, you whining, sniveling, little pansy! Way to throw a hissy fit and cry over spilled milk. Good grief...you really rose above the fray Fran and showed you were the bigger man! Your players were embarrassed and rightfully so; you looked like a spoiled little brat! I'm guessing you were the first one to run to the teacher on the playground when you were picked on as a kid?
  14. Can't go to New York so I am selling 4 great tickets - 1st row of second level, right behing the net. $200 for the 4 tickets. Text 701-739-5623 if interested.
  15. Any BC or QU fans looking for tickets? Many available at face value...great seats in lower bowl including 2nd row behind net...not looking to make money, just want to get face value and only want to see our game(s). Text 701-739-5623 if interested.
  16. We all realize who has priority...yes REA has priority...but it is about doing the right thing for the majority and the tournament you are hosting. The Wild have priority at the Xcel too but they cordinate with the NHL to schedule games and practices around the MN state high school tournament, meanwhile our womens hockey program that is peanuts is smug and won't budge on their practice time for the good of the community, the tournament, or the high school kids. That is the issue! We are all well aware of who has priority, we just don't like how petty they are with said priority. Can you get that? We personally knew Ralph and we know what his priority would be so taking our comments with a grain of salt is a slap in the face. Please go to someone else who knew Ralph personally and ask them who Ralph would want to have priority this past weekend...the high school state tournament or the womens hockey practice. You need to read the link I posted for you...it's not the GF schools that were complaining about the early start times and missing class...read the article before you post your nonsense. The REA comps all suiteholders with a tournament pass for each seat they have in their suite. 48 suites with at least 20 seats = 960 free passes available. I know very many who received free passes from suite holders that were not going; at $36 for a tournament pass that is up to $34,560 in lost revenue. Suddenly, the revenue difference makes even more sense now. I cannot comment as to why the REA charges $10,000 more then Scheels does but it probably has something to do with why they gouge $4 for a bottle of water for this high school event as well.
  17. Well congrats as you just named about the only two who would be happy with the scheduling (Idalski and Faison). Glad we could accomidate them instead of the vast majority, including the kids that bust there ass all year for the opportunity to play at state. The rest of us (99%) are happy that they are happy. Kevin Fee and I told you how Ralph would approve and it sure the hell wouldn't have been at the detriment of the high school kids...the Sioux women could have practiced at 10am right, why was that such a poor option? Don't tell me because they would miss a couple of hours of sleep or because they would miss class...you dismissed that for the high school athletes so you can't have it both ways to fit your argument. The gate was larger in Fargo the first year of Fargo campared to the prior (and worst) year at the Ralph. Compare REA's first year or average of first ten or Fargo's 2nd year next year and then we can talk...of course that would be logical. Also, you are discounting the suite holders at the REA that get into all events...those suiteholders have tickets that are free and are not counted as revenue.
  18. And finally this to complete the hat trick... http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/our-opinion/3957561-our-opinion-grand-forks-mustnt-give-state-hockey-other-tournaments I guess everything I wrote about on Thursday about these topics are now being supported by the sane...cut that crow into small pieces so you don't choke all you nay-sayers...
  19. Tweet from Kevin Fee, a former GF Herald reporter who interviewed Ralph when he dedicated the REA...I guess I am not so clueless now am I 82SiouxGuy? Kevin Fee ‏@feethrows 23h23 hours ago GF hock leders must step up and keep state hock. Ralph's vision (talked to him when he annced new arena) UND men & and hs hock. Get it done.
  20. new Ralph was open for 5 months. Do you think many went to Fargo last year to see how Scheels Arena handled the tournament? I did for that sole purpose.
  21. I guess your opinion on this matter wasn't shared by the out of town coaches that played the early game...http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/local-sports/3956591-state-hockey-notebook-coaches-arent-fans-early-start
  22. Correct on the novelty factor. 9500+ attended the first championship game at the new Ralph, so lets compare apples to apples here. That said, we will see how Fargo does next time.
  23. Scheduling has everything to do with it. Women's hockey having priority of the REA was not the purpose of the gift. I am certainly not for Title IX and its mandates. Sleeping in an extra hour is the least of my worries, especially since I am up at 6 am every morning. Seriously, where do people like you come from? You are so interested in showing people how smart you are that you don't entirely read other peoples posts.
  24. you and I can rent the Purpur for $125 an hour. there will be no fans and revenue in the future at REA for this tournament as it will be in Fargo because of this gong show scheduling around women's hockey
