Interesting, yes... The article beats home the idea that people need more entertainment than the game to "get their money's worth". I would beg to differ when talking about our hockey program. The game was enough to sell out all of the season tickets for another year. The game is enough to keep ~200 families on the waiting list. The game is enough to keep "the most knowledgeable fans in college hockey" coming back for more. The game is the reason Ralph played hockey. The game is the reason he built the place. (at least that's what we thought, I'm no longer positive) Ralph Engelstad said, "It is my desire to share my good fortune with the UND hockey team." When someone can explain to me how "frequent drinker cards" and the Vikings cheerleaders can be an enhancement to the UND hockey team, I might listen. Until then, I'll shut up, pay my ridiculous FSC dues, at let the mighty REA money machine rake it in at the expense of atmosphere, and at the expense of the real fans who can't afford to be a part of the tradition they helped build. Yes... I know the money goes back to Sioux athletics, but at a much higher expense, in my opinion. Sorry for the rambling on and on, but this new bar and entertainment stuff makes my stomach churn. God forbid there wouldn't be enough entertainment at a Fighting Sioux Hockey "EVENT."

Yep. First come first served is always fair and impartial. Start of the line and end of the line is simple enough for kindergarteners, it should work for college students and REA officials. Scratch that... should work for college students.
-
I am soooooo pleased that they're doing so much to keep people in the bar instead of in the seats watching games. But who am I kidding... we have atmosphere a plenty, don't we? They've lost their f***ing minds, IMO. WAKE UP, REA!!!!

Last night, WDAZ reported that Todd B. is indeed resigning, citing long hours and lack of family time. Without further comment on the old manager, let's hope the new one has a little more public friendly agenda.

Based only on my enjoyment of the game, no SSI, no D-IAA, no other BS... I'll pick a Sioux-Bison game every time.

I agree 100%, not that I think REA gives a rat's hind-part. No coaches club media guide is a complete joke. Oops... I better watch myself. I might get a media guide next year when the "tax-deductable" donation goes to $1200.00

Greene, Jones, Schneider, & McMahon, huh? ... you'd never guess what this team's strength is...
-
The "club seats" are the actual seating areas in the lounges.

I'm not furious, but a little put off by this whole thing. I had always enjoyed the club room at the old REA because it gave me the opportunity to talk hockey with other fans of a different generation. Most were older than me, and I learned much about the team traditions and history from our pre-game discussions. The first season at the new rink kind of kept this going on, but as the club rooms got more crowded, I no longer saw my "hockey friends" on a weekly basis. It certainly seems like we're a long way from what Rob Bollinger described to us when we were all sitting at the Chester Fritz in anticipation of the new arena... and getting further away each year. Fine, REA can make some more money, I really could give a damn... but speaking selfishly, they kind of screwed up what has become my hockey traditions. For that, they can get bent.

I don't know why I just looked at this now... but the FSC cards indeed do have a designation on them. At least mine do. Maybe they only put those designations on the cards that give access to the tailgating tent, club bars, etc.? Not sure...
-
Agreed... well put.

Good point... but one thing to keep in mind is the fact that there aren't people on a list waiting to spend big $$ on football like they are on hockey. In short, there's plenty of supply and little demand. I think it is good to have the students get in for free, as they bring a considerable amount of atmosphere to the games. Why lose that energy that they bring if we don't have to? Speaking frankly, why would you like to see them charged?
-
Speaking of which, (Sorry, hijacking thread) has anyone got the football one yet? I would guess that would be the case too...
-
You made my day. Thanks!

UND Defense= 10 (Interception for TD & 2 safties) UND Offense= 39 (added PAT for above referenced TD) Delta= 3 (desperation FG from 62 yds out) Or.... maybe a close one, along the lines of 24-21. Sioux gotta come out hot and stay that way. Is it tomorrow yet? Go Sioux!

That's great, but how about the conference games? You know, the one's that matter for conference titles, playoff positions, and the like? Maybe a home court advantage would be advantageous for such games. What a novel idea. I vote RW77 for BESC general manager.

I heard a rumor a while back that the Westward Ho complex was purchased by Engelstad. (or by one of his many holdings) If this is the case, I'm curious as to what development may rise in that area... hotel, restaurant, etc.

There was talk on the radio this morning that Bochenski may have lost his scholarship money. The true indicator will be if he is enrolled in classes next week. I think probably not. (but I'd gladly be proven wrong)
-
I agree... its a concern of mine too. Like Never lost to the Bison states, the experience factor is significant. Let's hope they can just jump in and do a good job, and get better as they gain that precious game experience. We'll see...

I imagine the best in practice that week will get the start.

Very true. The fact is, REA was not built with basketball in mind. Hell, it wasn't even a twinkle in anyone's eye during the design phase. Could it be it was designed for hockey, and hockey only? Hmmmm... I say they should have made The Betty bigger. Then we could have really screwed with home field advantage and played some football games there too. ***Of note, I think The Betty is the right size. My beef is not with the new facility, but the fact that they don't play all of their games there. Sorry, I just can't figure it out.

I hadn't thought about it, but since it is brought up, I guess I haven't seen much either. Around this time last year, they were advertising heavily with the "back on track" campaign. With the season just a couple weeks away, you'd think there'd be more visible media. If season ticket sales are indeed down from last year, they certainly should be advertising, IMO. Kind of disappointing. Who knows, maybe they spent their whole budget on "UND decorations & banners" at the Alerus. But that's a whole different can of worms.

Wasn't he on the roster his second year, although he lost his starting role to KG?
