  1. You are absolutely dreaming if you think a white-centric name like "Fighting Norse" will even be remotely considered by do-good academia nuts involved in this whole sham of a process. I, for one, will be absolutely astounded if the nickname isn't something abstract like Storm, Pride, Spirit, or, worst of all, SunDogs.
  2. Maine did indeed get rid of the Reebok on the front of their jerseys this year, Ray77...they're now with Warrior. Compare the 2013-2014 Reebok jersey above with the 2014-2015 jersey below... As you can see, the "Maine" script has been returned to normal. Maine stays in the top five.
  3. Throwbacks or one-game only jerseys not allowed in the discussion. Regular home whites only.
  4. UPDATE: I have confirmed that the problem I identified above with Maine's home jerseys has been corrected for this season. Stay tuned for pic.
  5. I clicked "post" by accident before I'd found acceptable pics for my remaining two jerseys. Maine is losing some points with me...Reebok has also toyed with the script "Maine" - it is missing the light blue outline that exists on the shoulder and back numbers as well as the A in the alternate captain's jersey. Check out the female fan in the right on the picture - THAT'S how the front of the jersey should look. Any other opinions out there from jersey fans?
  6. With the loss of the classic Sioux-head jerseys, college hockey has undergone a major shake-up in terms of best jersey. Here's my top five home whites for 2014 (in no particular order): Boston U's former throwback alternate - now turned regular jersey. Simple. Classic. Maine Black Bears. I love the two different shades of blue and the simple "Maine" script on the front. Lake Superior State Lakers. The anchor. Union College. This pic really doesn't do this jersey justice - the maroon and black look great and the roundel logo is a nice touch. Michigan Tech. They've long had an identity crisis and finally went back to what works - old school.
  7. Ha! I suppose I had that coming, didn't I? Not from the UP originally, but have had the good fortune of seeing games at Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan, and Michigan Tech. Got to see the bell-ringing tradition at LSSU, meet the Puckheads from NMU, and chat with many good fans at MTU. I went to school at UND from '88 to '92 and the Huskies were by then, the league doormat. After doing some research on college hockey and traditions, I became kind of fond of the Huskies. In 1994, they made a magical run from the worst-finishing team in the league all the way to the WCHA playoff championship game. The fans there are awesome and have waited - and HOPED - for a long, long time for their program to turn around. I'd imagine John MacInnes is smiling somewhere as the arena that bears his name will surely be rockin' at its next home game. GO YOOPERS!
  8. Gordie Howe is reported to be deteriorating quickly...
  9. Update: Muschamp will coach Florida's two remaining games.
  10. Andy Staples from SI reporting that yesterday's blown game against South Carolina has resulted in Florida firing Will Muschamp effective immediately...
  11. I stayed up for that one...The Sun Devils had a golden opportunity in fromt of themselves last night...and blew it.
  12. A loud roar went up last night when the football score was announced at REA - it's a shame more folks around town didn't actually attend the game. A drop-off of over 3,000 since the Montana game? Wow! I can't give enough credit to the coaches and players for their effort yesterday. Playing for pride is a tired cliché and everyone deserves big kudos for being ready to play...and WIN...yesterday.
  13. I get that, Goon, but you would still expect a hiccup or two at some point ten games into the season no matter who the opponents are. 10 and oh is 10 and oh. Party on, you Yoopers!
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHWxi2B9YMg&feature=player_embedded I don't care what level of football this is...the team celebration and what-happened-next made me laugh out loud... Yes, I know it's Mercer vs Warner but this had to go somewhere...love the official standing there waiting for the "bowling pins" to get knocked down so he can throw the yellow flag. LOL!
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHWxi2B9YMg&feature=player_embedded I don't know how you can help but laugh at the bowling pins penalty followed by what happened next... Yes, I know it's Mercer vs Warner but this had to go somewhere...love the official standing there waiting for the "bowling pins" to get knocked down so he can throw the yellow flag. LOL!
  16. I'll still post our schedule over in the Community section when it's released...
  17. Speaking of jersey features, here's another one I like...the yellow blob on Michigan Tech's left shoulder was added just before Mel Pearson's first season. It's the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the small black mark at the top left marks the location of Houghton and Hancock (think GF and EGF). The patch was put on the shoulder to signify Michigan Tech being the "UP's team" - a small feature meant to take a slight jab at Northern Michigan and Lake Superior State, obviously. I think the logic behind it was that while Michigan Tech might not be competing with Michigan and Wisconsin for recruits, if they can snag a talented kid who might otherwise be headed to Marquette or Sault Ste Marie, it's a win for their program. The other shoulder patch is a version of the school seal. I'd like to see UND do something with the state of ND on the shoulder of its jerseys. Cool idea.
  18. The Chargers defeat LSSU 5-2 and earn their 2nd win of the season. The team went 2-35-1 last year. I believe I mis-stated their 2013-2014 record earlier in this thread - I thought UAH won all of 1 game last season. Would be nice to see this program become a WCHA contender - and their jerseys are sweet! I especially like the horseshoe logo on the shoulder (although it looks like the Baltimore Indianapolis Colts)...
  19. Hey, thanks! We're still talking about me here, right Oxbow?
  20. I have the B10 foursome of Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Wisconsin at a combined 10-23-1 record so far this season...yikes.
  21. Some more numbers for you: 8, 8, 7 and 6, 5, 4. Those are the SEASON win totals for Jamie Russell at Tech in his first three and last three years there (2003-2004 to 2005-2006 and then 2008-2009 to 2010-2011 seasons). Russell is an alum of Tech and I'm sure was crushed by those results, but again, this shows you that the right coach can indeed turn around ANY struggling program.
  22. 10 wins 21 losses 4 ties 14 wins 19 losses 7 ties The 2013-2014 records of Boston U and Michigan Tech, respectively. What David Quinn and Mel Pearson have done with their squads thru the middle of November of this season is nothing short of incredible.
  23. How about the shoot-out fiasco tonight in Pittsburgh? Wow!
