In case you didn't know UND has a football team at the DI level, and I am not as giddy as you to cheer for our in-state rival in any sport we also compete in.

But isn't the school like millions in the hole.

I was up there last summer and fall, beautiful country around Lake Metigoshe.

On Facebook I had someone tell me I don't have any UND Pride because I said Go Hawks. Pretty sad that's the mindset of some people. We all cheer for the same school no matter what nickname they are.

Since athletics is tight with the axing of 2 programs are we going to see an increase on the little things at games like merchandise and concessions? UND should add SRO tickets on the 2 walkways behind the end zones to add to more ticket revenue, and maybe with our core teams (football and basketball) getting better to add to hockey ticket sales will start to increase a lot, and this little dark hole (budget problems) will go away.

I agree: have UND, and NDSU 4 year and make the rest 2 year schools.

ND State school of Forestry? We have no trees what the hell do we need a school of forestry, especially a 4 year one.

Maybe I missed it but just how much money is going to be saved by eliminating baseball and men's golf?

USD had the SL to help them, being a member already, UND has no desire to join unless travel expenses are the next to be on the chopping block which makes the SL attractive. It's not like UND couldn't be a football only member in the BSC like UC Davis and Cal Poly.

Could UND winning a NC help women's hockey? Or does that rest solely on the product.

I wonder if they looked at ways to cut down travel expenses, playing 30 road games to start the season every year will eat into your budget. Of course the SL would help with travel but !@#!$! I mean Douple didn't want us or UNC to join.

How many men's sports would get cut if we did cut women's hockey.

No one gave a chance for UND to join the MVFC back in 2010 why would they give us a chance now. The SL visit gave no indication the MVFC was offering an invite (like they did to USD) so we passed and took the offer from the BSC that gave UND football a home. It was either Big Sky or FCS Indy ball.

UND was never offered a MVFC invite when they visited it was going to be a SL only visit and Patty herself said they were not going to invite UND due to the odd number of teams and along with another Dakota team. No team has left the MVFC for her to change her mind. Why ask a conference that will reject you....we aren't NDSU.

Every FB post about UND hockey turned into a Hawks vs Sioux debate. Someone would put Go Fighting Hawks only to have someone say "don't you mean Sioux" or don't say that. Some people do need to grow up, not everyone is going to say go Sioux, there will be people saying Go Hawks, or wear Hawks gear. Just because people have moved on with the new name there is no reason to bash someone. On the flip side if people want to wear Sioux gear (I did during the game) and cheer Go Sioux that's okay too. Our fan base should be united not separated buy the nickname we cheer for. We all cheer for UND so what if people say go Hawks or go Sioux.

UND had Women's basketball, hockey, and football all in great shape in 1999-2001, each sport winning a National title, and the fan base basically fed off each other's success. Hockey will always be a fan favorite due to the 8 national titles, but women's basketball won 3 national titles in 1997-1999, and football won a title in 2001 and playing for one in 2003. The early 2000's saw UND's athletic popularity boom especially with the opening of the new REA and Alerus Center. Attendance in both was/is great. It takes a bad streak (football) to bring down one sport over another. Now we have seen the football team grow with Bubba, just missing the playoffs, but attendance has increased and better recruits are coming into the door, this NC by the hockey team will electrify the crowd in other sports causing a surge in attendance, especially if the product on the field is winning. Does it hurt being a hockey school, no. Does it help being a hockey school, maybe. It all comes down to the product on the field. Win and the rest takes care of itself.

Fargo has murders, robberies, and drug dealers. There was no riot in Grand Forks, a bunch of drunks tipped over 2 cars near UND. Its not like buildings were on fire and looting was going on. Nice try.

Championship shirts say Fighting Hawks, how many people (besides me) will be buying those?

I'd love to see him play on the Dolphins as either a FB or a LB. He has got some nice speed and good tackling ability to do well on both sides of the ball. I hope to hear his name called at the end of the month by Roger Goodell.

The name is still new, it won't be accepted by the majority for quite some time. It could be decades before you see more Hawks and less Sioux. But no matter if you cheer Go Hawks or Go Sioux you are cheering for the same team...UND. On a side note, I will be cheering for the Hawks in my Fighting Sioux sweatshirt. Go Sioux/Hawks/Flickertails/Nodaks.
